Fortnite Chapter 1 Battle Pass skins take us right back to the early days of Battle Royale, when earning Black Knight meant finishing a 70-tier pass and reaching Tier 100 with The Reaper felt like a huge achievement. Across nine passes, Fortnite introduced progressive armour, hidden challenge outfits and the characters that still make veteran players nostalgic.
Open a season below to see the actual outfits in its pass, the final reward, any separately unlocked character and how it connected to the map. These are the original 2017–2019 Battle Passes, not the later Fortnite OG recreations. Season 1 is included in the timeline because it came before the Battle Pass existed.

Black Knight, the final reward in Fortnite’s first Battle Pass.Chapter 1 Season 1 (2017): Before the Battle Pass▾ VIEW OUTFITS
The first Battle Royale season used a Season Store, rather than the Battle Pass introduced later. You couldn’t unlock Black Knight or a Tier 100 outfit here because those systems didn’t exist yet.
Fortnite Chapter 1 Battle Pass skins: Season 2 (2017–2018): Fort Knights — Black Knight▾ VIEW OUTFITS
All main Battle Pass outfits: Blue Squire, Royale Knight, Sparkle Specialist, Black Knight.
Final major tier reward: Black Knight.
The first pass replaced the Season Store with unlockable cosmetics. The medieval knights were relatively simple, but Black Knight became a symbol of having played Fortnite very early.
Fortnite’s original first season had no Battle Pass. Season 2’s 70-tier structure was unlike the much larger reward pages players know today.
Fortnite Chapter 1 Battle Pass skins: Season 3 (2018): Space Explorers — The Reaper▾ VIEW OUTFITS
All main Battle Pass outfits: Mission Specialist, Rust Lord, Moonwalker, Elite Agent, Dark Voyager, The Reaper.
Final major tier reward: The Reaper.
Season 3 expanded the Battle Pass to 100 tiers, with astronaut-themed outfits leading to The Reaper. Dark Voyager and Rust Lord became distinctive memories from early Fortnite.
Meteor sightings above the island foreshadowed the end of Dusty Depot. This is the pass to revisit alongside the Season 3 map, before Dusty Divot existed.
Fortnite Chapter 1 Battle Pass skins: Season 4 (2018): Brace for Impact — Omega▾ VIEW OUTFITS
All main Battle Pass outfits: Carbide, Battlehawk, Teknique, Zoey, Squad Leader, Valor, Omega.
Final major tier reward: Omega.
Additional challenge outfit: The Visitor. This was associated with the season’s extra challenges rather than the standard final tier.
Carbide and Omega introduced progressive armour looks that visibly evolved as players earned experience. The Visitor was the additional Blockbuster outfit rather than a normal tier reward.
The meteor’s impact created Dusty Divot, while the superhero-film story changed the way Epic told Fortnite’s seasonal narrative.
All main Battle Pass outfits: Drift, Huntress, Redline, Sun Strider, Sledgehammer, Rook, Ragnarok.
Final major tier reward: Ragnarok.
Additional challenge outfit: Enforcer. This was associated with the season’s extra challenges rather than the standard final tier.
Drift and Ragnarok’s evolving styles are among the clearest examples of Fortnite rewarding players for progressing their characters. Enforcer came through Road Trip challenges.
Paradise Palms and the new desert made this Battle Pass feel tied to a particularly striking island change.
Fortnite Chapter 1 Battle Pass skins: Season 8 (2019): X Marks the Spot — Luxe▾ VIEW OUTFITS
All main Battle Pass outfits: Blackheart, Hybrid, Sidewinder, Peely, Ember, Master Key, Luxe.
Final major tier reward: Luxe.
Additional challenge outfit: Ruin. This was associated with the season’s extra challenges rather than the standard final tier.
Pirates and adventure shaped the pass. Blackheart and Hybrid could evolve, while Peely became an enduring Fortnite favourite; Ruin was the additional Discovery outfit.
The jungle, volcano, Sunny Steps and Lazy Lagoon defined the new landscape.

All main Battle Pass outfits: Catalyst, X-Lord, Tilted Teknique, YOND3R, Sparkle Supreme, Eternal Voyager, Ultima Knight.
Final major tier reward: Ultima Knight.
Additional challenge outfit: The Scientist. This was associated with the season’s extra challenges rather than the standard final tier.
Season X remixed the game’s earliest designs. Catalyst recalled Drift, X-Lord reimagined Rust Lord, and Ultima Knight updated the Black Knight idea. The Scientist arrived as a separate storyline outfit.
Rift Zones repeatedly changed the original island before the Chapter 1-ending black hole.
Fortnite Chapter 1 Battle Pass skins: How the rewards evolved
Fortnite Chapter 1 Battle Pass skins began with a much smaller rewards system. Looking back at Fortnite Chapter 1 Battle Pass skins makes the change in reward design obvious. The first pass was substantially different from today’s reward pages. Epic launched the Season 2 Battle Pass in December 2017 after retiring the original Season Store. Black Knight was its last outfit reward at Tier 70. Season 3 established the more familiar 100-tier model, with The Reaper becoming the prize at the end.
Season 4 made styles part of the journey. Omega and Carbide had armour that developed as you progressed, and The Visitor arrived through separate Blockbuster challenges. Drift and Ragnarok built on the idea in Season 5. By Season 6, you could start with Calamity or unlock a transforming werewolf in Dire.
One important part of Fortnite Chapter 1 Battle Pass skins was the extra challenge outfit. Extra challenge outfits also became a regular feature. The Prisoner, Ruin, Singularity and The Scientist weren’t simply alternative names for the standard final Battle Pass reward. Their challenges, story roles and release timing made them memorable in different ways.
Fortnite Chapter 1 Battle Pass skins: Can you still get the originals?
The original Fortnite Chapter 1 Battle Pass skins had specific unlock windows. A later remix character isn’t automatically the same cosmetic that players earned in the original season.
These Fortnite Chapter 1 Battle Pass skins belonged to specific historical seasons. The skins in these galleries belonged to time-limited original Battle Passes. A newer remix, reskin or Fortnite OG pass can celebrate the same character without being the same original reward. For example, a reimagined Black Knight design does not automatically mean a player obtained the 2017 Black Knight outfit.
If you want to identify an outfit you saw in a screenshot, check the season lineup first, then look at the Chapter 1 island history. The outfit cards here show the skins themselves; follow each season’s map link if you’d like to revisit the island where they first appeared.
Fortnite Chapter 1 Battle Pass skins: Which pass was your favourite?
Fans still debate their favourite Fortnite Chapter 1 Battle Pass skins. There’s plenty to argue about: Black Knight and the first pass, The Reaper and Dark Voyager from Season 3, Omega’s progressive armour, Drift’s transformations, or the unexpected popularity of Peely. The best memories aren’t always about the highest tier. Sometimes an outfit worn all season is the one people remember longest.
