Fortnite Chapter 1 Season 1 map takes us back to the island where Battle Royale began in September 2017. Before Tilted Towers became the busiest landing spot, before Dusty Depot turned into a crater and long before the desert or snow arrived, Fortnite’s island was a quieter place. Pleasant Park, Retail Row and Greasy Grove were already there, but many of the named locations that players associate with Chapter 1 had yet to be added.

If you started playing Fortnite later, the original island can look surprisingly empty. This guide shows the historical map, takes a tour of its most recognisable landing spots and explains what changed when Season 2 arrived. The pictures show the original Chapter 1 island rather than a later Fortnite OG recreation of the Fortnite Chapter 1 Season 1 map.

The Fortnite Chapter 1 Season 1 map pictured below is an archived snapshot from update v1.11. Open the image for a larger view and look at the centre of the island: Dusty Depot sits where later players would know Dusty Divot, and the land west of it has not yet been built up into Tilted Towers.

Fortnite Chapter 1 Season 1 map: Key places to recognise

The original island had farms, towns, woodland and wetlands, but it didn’t yet have many of the landmarks that defined later seasons. These are some of the easiest places to recognise when looking at the Fortnite Chapter 1 Season 1 map:

Original location What to look for on the 2017 map
Dusty Depot Three warehouses near the centre, before the Season 4 meteor created Dusty Divot.
Loot Lake The lake and its central island, years before the Cube and floating island storyline.
Moisty Mire Wetland terrain in the southeast, long before Paradise Palms and the desert arrived.
Anarchy Acres A northern farm, later replaced by Lazy Links during Season 5.
Pleasant Park A residential neighbourhood in the northwest, one of the island’s most familiar early towns.

Tilted Towers isn’t missing from the picture by mistake: it didn’t exist in Season 1. The Chapter 1 Season 2 map shows how the island looked after that landmark and several other locations were added.

What locations were on the original Fortnite map?

On the Fortnite Chapter 1 Season 1 map, the named landing spots were spread around the island rather than packed into the middle. Pleasant Park provided rows of houses in the northwest, while Retail Row brought shops and residential buildings to the east. Greasy Grove, with its familiar fast-food restaurant, was another major destination.

Other names players may remember from the first island include Anarchy Acres, Fatal Fields, Loot Lake, Dusty Depot, Wailing Woods, Lonely Lodge, Tomato Town, Salty Springs, Flush Factory and Moisty Mire. A lot of those places became important in Fortnite’s later story, particularly Dusty Depot and Loot Lake.

There were also many unnamed areas worth visiting, from scattered houses to small industrial buildings and hilltop structures. A named POI was not the only place to find useful loot, and landing somewhere quieter could give you time to collect materials before heading into a fight.

Where was Tilted Towers in Chapter 1 Season 1?

Tilted Towers wasn’t on the original Season 1 map. The city was introduced with the substantial map update during Season 2, alongside new locations such as Shifty Shafts and Snobby Shores. That’s one reason screenshots of the earliest Fortnite island can seem so unfamiliar: its most famous urban battlefield hadn’t been built yet.

The area surrounding Loot Lake and Dusty Depot still had plenty of action, but it did not draw players into one enormous concentration of high-rise buildings. The arrival of Tilted Towers changed landing habits and made the island feel much busier.

How did the Season 1 map change in Season 2?

The biggest visible difference is the number of named places. Season 2 added Tilted Towers, Shifty Shafts, Snobby Shores, Junk Junction and Haunted Hills. These locations gave the western and central areas of the island more places to land, search and fight.

You can compare the two historical map versions below. Open either image at full size to see how Epic filled gaps between existing towns rather than starting with a completely different island. That pattern of building on familiar geography would continue through the remainder of Chapter 1.

Fortnite Chapter 1 Season 1 map compared with Fortnite OG

Fortnite OG brings earlier seasons back into a modern version of the game, but it is worth checking the exact update before comparing screenshots. The original Fortnite Chapter 1 Season 1 map belongs to the 2017 release, and the image above is labelled with its original patch number.

Looking at the Fortnite Chapter 1 Season 1 map beside later seasons makes it easier to see how familiar locations changed. Dusty Depot was there from the start, but Dusty Divot only arrived after the meteor strike in Season 4. Paradise Palms wasn’t part of the original island either: the desert biome did not appear until Season 5.
