The Ocarina of Time Switch 2 dungeon order starts with three dungeons as young Link: Inside the Great Deku Tree, Dodongo’s Cavern and Jabu-Jabu’s Belly. After collecting the Spiritual Stones, Link enters the Temple of Time and takes up the Master Sword. The adult story then leads through the Forest, Fire, Water, Shadow and Spirit Temples before Ganon’s Castle.

This is a good route for a first playthrough. Don’t skip the Ice Cavern before Water Temple or the Bottom of the Well before Shadow Temple: both provide equipment that’s useful for what comes next.

The table shows the eight main story dungeons alongside the Temple of Time, two smaller item-gathering areas and the final castle. That’s why different guides sometimes give different dungeon totals.

Child Link: Ocarina of Time Switch 2 dungeon order

Start in Kokiri Forest, where you’ll need the Kokiri Sword and Deku Shield. The sword chest has moved in the Switch 2 remake; follow our Kokiri Sword guide if the old maze walkthrough isn’t helping.

Inside the Great Deku Tree, collect the Fairy Slingshot and defeat Queen Gohma. Watch the arms guarding her eye: attack when they move aside. You’ll earn the Kokiri Emerald.

Dodongo’s Cavern comes next, with the Bomb Bag and King Dodongo. Then head to Jabu-Jabu’s Belly for the Boomerang, Barinade and Zora Sapphire. Once you have all three Spiritual Stones, head to the Temple of Time.

Ocarina of Time Switch 2 dungeon order: Temple of Time

At the Temple of Time, follow the story and draw the Master Sword. This moves Link into the adult part of the adventure. The temple itself is a story transition, not a boss dungeon.

The Master Sword isn’t a replacement for the Kokiri Sword chest in the opening forest. You collect the latter as a child to begin the adventure. The time-travel system later lets you visit both eras for quests, Skulltulas and dungeon preparation.

Adult Link’s Ocarina of Time Switch 2 dungeon order

As adult Link, begin with the Forest Temple. You’ll collect the Fairy Bow, defeat Phantom Ganon and earn the Forest Medallion. The bow also gives you an important tool for later temples.

Next is the Fire Temple on Death Mountain. Find the Megaton Hammer and defeat Volvagia for the Fire Medallion.

Ocarina of Time Switch 2 dungeon order: Ice Cavern and Water Temple

The Ice Cavern is a smaller dungeon where you pick up the Iron Boots. You’ll also learn the Serenade of Water along this route. The boots are important for Water Temple, so get them before trying to explore its underwater areas.

In Water Temple, change the water level to reach new areas, encounter Dark Link and collect the Longshot. Morpha is the boss, and defeating it awards the Water Medallion.

Bottom of the Well, Shadow Temple and Spirit Temple

Before Shadow Temple, return to young Link’s era and visit the Bottom of the Well in Kakariko to get the Lens of Truth. Then, as an adult, use it in Shadow Temple, pick up the Hover Boots and defeat Bongo Bongo.

The Spirit Temple is tackled across both child and adult Link’s eras. Its key items include the Silver Gauntlets and Mirror Shield, and Twinrova is the boss. This Ocarina of Time Switch 2 dungeon order is recommended, rather than a claim that every adult section must be completed in one sequence.

Ocarina of Time Switch 2 dungeon order after Spirit Temple

Once the main story objectives are complete, head for Ganon’s Castle. You’ll need the skills and equipment collected throughout the adventure, with the Light Arrows and Golden Gauntlets also playing a role in the final stretch.

Gold Skulltulas, heart pieces and other rewards can be collected alongside the main story, but you don’t need all 100 Gold Skulltulas to finish the dungeons.

Can you change the Ocarina of Time Switch 2 dungeon order?

Yes. You have some freedom as adult Link, but key items still gate several areas. The recommended Ocarina of Time Switch 2 dungeon order puts the Iron Boots and Lens of Truth before the temples where they’ll help most.

Forgot where you’re headed? The remake’s Threads of Time story tracker can help. The Hall of Fallen Foes is for boss rematches, not an extra story dungeon.
