The Ocarina of Time Switch 2 Kokiri Sword is hidden in the familiar rolling-boulder maze in Kokiri Forest, but the chest is no longer tucked into the corner where Nintendo 64 players remember finding it. In the 2026 remake, the chest is on a raised platform in the middle of the boulder’s loop. Use the new ladder where the old chest stood, then jump across to the central platform.
If you’ve crawled through the entrance and reached the maze but can’t see the sword chest, you’re in the right place. This is one of the remake’s first lessons in using the new manual jump control, so don’t rely on a walkthrough for the 1998 version.
Ocarina of Time Switch 2 Kokiri Sword location

Start in Kokiri Forest and head to the same concealed area where the Kokiri Sword was kept in the original adventure. Crawl through the small entrance to reach the boulder maze. Watch the rock’s path and step into one of the alcoves to let it pass before continuing. You don’t need to outrun it all the way around the loop.
In the Nintendo 64 version, the chest sat at the back of the maze. The Ocarina of Time Switch 2 Kokiri Sword chest has moved to the raised platform in the middle, and you’ll find a ladder where the old chest used to be.
How to reach the Ocarina of Time Switch 2 Kokiri Sword chest
- Enter the sword hiding area in Kokiri Forest through the crawl-through passage.
- Let the rolling boulder pass, using the alcoves along its route for cover.
- Follow the maze to the back corner, where the chest stood in the original game.
- Climb the new ladder to reach the raised ledge.
- Face the centre platform and use X for the default manual jump across the gap.
- Open the chest on the central platform to collect the Kokiri Sword.
It’s a short jump. You don’t need any extra dungeon item to reach the chest. This is one of the first places where the remake teaches you to jump on command instead of relying on the original game’s automatic leap.
What button makes Link jump on Nintendo Switch 2?
Press X with the default control layout. Unlike the Nintendo 64 original, Link can jump when you press the jump button instead of automatically leaping at certain ledges. Nintendo specifically redesigned movement to work more like modern Zelda adventures, and the new sword chest is an early chance to practise.
If you’ve remapped your buttons, use whichever button your controls screen assigns to Jump. Line up the central platform before pressing it; don’t assume Link will make the crossing automatically just because you’re running off the edge. For the rest of the revised movement scheme, see our Switch 2 controls guide.

Why isn’t the Kokiri Sword in the old chest spot?
Nintendo redesigned this small maze to teach the jump button. The chest’s new position makes you climb and cross a gap, rather than simply walk up to the old location.
If an N64 walkthrough sends you to a chest in the corner, it’s using the old layout. For the Ocarina of Time Switch 2 Kokiri Sword, look up at the raised platform instead.
Do you need the Kokiri Sword to enter the Great Deku Tree?
The Kokiri Sword is your first proper weapon for the opening adventure and the fights inside the Great Deku Tree. You’ll also need a Deku Shield before Mido will let you through to the Great Deku Tree. Buy it from the Kokiri Forest shop for 40 Rupees. Finding the sword doesn’t give you the shield automatically.
You get the sword by opening its chest in the maze. The shield is a separate purchase, not another reward inside the sword chest. If Mido still blocks the path after you’ve collected the Ocarina of Time Switch 2 Kokiri Sword, check your equipment for the shield.
Ocarina of Time Switch 2 Kokiri Sword versus the Master Sword
These are two different weapons at different points in the story. The Kokiri Sword belongs to young Link in the opening Kokiri Forest section. The Master Sword comes much later, at the Temple of Time, after you’ve collected the Spiritual Stones and reached the central turning point of the adventure.
If you’ve ended up reading about the Master Sword, you’ve skipped much too far ahead. For now, get the Ocarina of Time Switch 2 Kokiri Sword and the 40-Rupee Deku Shield, then head for the Great Deku Tree.
What comes after finding the Kokiri Sword?
Once you’ve collected the Ocarina of Time Switch 2 Kokiri Sword, head back through the boulder maze and return to the main village. Make sure you have the Deku Shield, then follow the route to the Great Deku Tree. You’ll find the Fairy Slingshot inside the first dungeon, which you can use in the Queen Gohma fight.
If you’ve forgotten where the story wants you to go next, the remake’s Threads of Time tracker can point you back towards your current objective.
