Ocarina of Time Switch 2 Morpha is the Water Temple’s final boss, and the Longshot is the key to winning. Stay on the dry outer ledge, wait for its pink nucleus to move into a water tentacle, then pull the core onto land and slash it before it retreats.
If your sword isn’t doing any damage, you’re probably hitting the water instead of the core. Standing on the inner platforms also puts you in easy reach of Morpha’s grabs. Here’s how to reach the fight, expose the weak point and keep Link out of trouble.
How to reach Ocarina of Time Switch 2 Morpha

Before you can face Morpha, defeat Dark Link for the Longshot and obtain the Water Temple’s Boss Key. They’re separate pickups: the Longshot is in a chest just beyond Dark Link, while the Boss Key lies deeper along the dungeon route.
Return to the main chamber, raise the water to the highest setting and use the Longshot on the northern boss approach. Watch the spike traps on the slope: using the Iron Boots to steady Link can help you cross safely before unlocking the boss door.
Where to stand during the fight
There is dry ground around the outside of the central pool. Use that outer ring and keep away from the raised blocks in the middle. From the edge, you can spot a tentacle forming and move before it reaches you.
In Ocarina of Time Switch 2 Morpha, it’s better to stay mobile than rush towards the centre. If a tentacle rises beside you, circle away along the edge. The extra space makes it easier to line up a shot at the moving nucleus.
How to expose Morpha’s nucleus with the Longshot
Watch for the pink nucleus inside a water tentacle. After the tentacle’s third slam, it briefly pauses; lock onto the nucleus, fire the Longshot and pull it onto solid ground. Switch straight to your sword and land a few hits before it slides back into the pool.
That is the damage cycle for Ocarina of Time Switch 2 Morpha: Longshot the nucleus, strike it on land, then get ready for the next tentacle. Hitting the watery column itself won’t help. If the shot keeps missing, adjust your position and wait for a clearer view of the core.
- Stay on the outside ledge and keep the Longshot ready.
- Move away when a water tentacle rises near you.
- Watch for the nucleus moving inside the tentacle.
- Aim the Longshot at the nucleus and pull it out.
- Strike the exposed core with your sword, then retreat to safety.
- Repeat until Morpha is defeated.
How to avoid Morpha’s tentacle grabs
The biggest danger in Ocarina of Time Switch 2 Morpha is being grabbed. When a tentacle reaches for Link, move along the outer rim rather than backing into the pool. If you’re caught, the remake walkthrough advises pressing A repeatedly to break free. Return to dry ground before attacking again.
Morpha’s tentacles become more troublesome as the fight continues. Keep your attention on whichever column holds the nucleus and don’t waste shots on the others. There is no need to memorise an exact tentacle count to win.
Can you use Biggoron’s Sword against Morpha?
Biggoron’s Sword can make each opening more damaging if you already have it, but the regular Master Sword works too. You still need to expose the core with the Longshot first; a stronger sword won’t solve that step.
Din’s Fire and other magic aren’t prerequisites either. The essential equipment is the Longshot you’ve just collected from Dark Link’s route. If you only have the ordinary Hookshot, go back and check the chest after that miniboss.
What do you get for beating Ocarina of Time Switch 2 Morpha?
For beating Ocarina of Time Switch 2 Morpha in the story, you’ll get the Water Medallion and a Heart Container. Don’t leave without collecting the Heart Container. The Longshot isn’t a boss drop: you should already have it from the Dark Link room.
The Switch 2 remake also has a Hall of Fallen Foes rematch feature. That is separate from the normal Water Temple clear, so don’t confuse a future rematch with the fight required to finish this dungeon.
Why can’t I hurt Morpha?
If Ocarina of Time Switch 2 Morpha seems immune, check three things: are you aiming at the pink nucleus, has the Longshot actually pulled it out of the water, and are you swinging while it’s on dry ground? A sword hit on the water tentacle does not count.
If you can’t enter the boss room at all, confirm you’ve found the Boss Key and raised the water for the correct approach. Our Water Temple walkthrough explains those controls, and the Dark Link guide covers obtaining the Longshot.
The winning pattern for Ocarina of Time Switch 2 Morpha is consistent: stay on the perimeter, dodge the grabbing tentacles, Longshot the nucleus and hit it while exposed. Repeat until the boss falls.
