Spirit Crossing release date is Monday 16 November 2026 on Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. Spry Fox’s new social life sim has two separate Nintendo editions, so it’s worth checking which one you’re buying before you begin building a home in the clouds.

Spirit Crossing is about meeting people, befriending lost spirits and making a place of your own. You can fish, decorate and explore by yourself, but the UK Nintendo listing requires a persistent internet connection, even when you aren’t planning to meet friends.

Spirit Crossing release date and supported Nintendo consoles

Nintendo announced the November launch during its 28 October Indie World presentation. Spry Fox, the developer of Cozy Grove, is also the publisher. The original Switch game and the dedicated Switch 2 game launch on the same date, but they’re separate eShop purchases.

You can run the original Switch game on Switch 2 using backward compatibility. It remains the original version, however. Nintendo estimates downloads of 1.3 GB for Switch and 1.4 GB for Switch 2. Those are file-size estimates, not a performance comparison.

Spirit Crossing gameplay: fishing, decorating and helping spirits

The setting is a colourful world above the clouds where troubled spirits need help. Spry Fox calls it a collaborative life-sim MMO: you can work with other players to calm magical storms, but there’s also time to wander around and enjoy the scenery.

A fishing trip or a conversation around a campfire can be just as much a part of your day as helping restore the world. You can decorate a home on a mountain, from a small cottage to a castle, and fill it with furniture, rugs, lamps, plants and trinkets.

Character creation is extensive, with hundreds of hairstyles, dyes, head coverings, prosthetics, outfits and emotes. The focus is on making a character and home that feel like yours, then meeting other people in the shared world.

Spirit Crossing release date: can you play offline?

No offline play is advertised. Nintendo UK’s store page says the game requires a persistent internet connection. You don’t have to spend your entire time grouped with friends, but you’ll still need connectivity to access the game.

Nintendo lists one player on a single console and one to 100 online. Paid Nintendo Switch Online membership is required for online multiplayer. The 100-player figure describes the advertised online capacity; it doesn’t mean you can organise a private party with 99 friends or play split-screen on one console.

If you’re buying it to play together, our Spirit Crossing multiplayer guide explains the online count, solo activities and Nintendo Switch Online requirement.

Switch or Switch 2: which Spirit Crossing version should you buy?

Progress and additional content are not compatible between the separate editions. Nintendo’s publisher notice makes this explicit. If you start the original Switch game and then buy the dedicated Switch 2 game, your original progress and extras won’t move into it.

There is no upgrade pack that changes the original game into the Switch 2 version. Anyone who already owns the Switch release can keep playing that same version on Switch 2. For the full comparison, see our Spirit Crossing Switch 2 save guide.

Spirit Crossing release date: UK price and preorders

Both editions are sold digitally. Nintendo’s UK eShop shows the current price for the selected version once you’re signed into a UK Nintendo Account. Check that price and the console name on the product page before ordering: the Switch and Switch 2 versions aren’t interchangeable purchases.

The Spirit Crossing release date is the same for both consoles, but your choice of version matters far beyond launch day. If keeping a long-running character and home is important to you, choose the edition you intend to stick with.
