Spirit Crossing Multiplayer: 100 Players, Switch Online and Solo Play

Spirit Crossing multiplayer supports one to 100 players online on Nintendo Switch and Switch 2. Spry Fox’s social life sim is designed for meeting people while fishing, decorating homes and helping troubled spirits, rather than organising a fixed competitive squad.

You can also spend time on your own, but there’s an important difference between solo and offline. Nintendo’s UK listing requires a persistent internet connection, and playing online with others requires paid Nintendo Switch Online membership.

Spirit Crossing multiplayer: how many people can play?

Nintendo lists one player per console and one to 100 players online. That describes the advertised online scale. It isn’t a promise that you can invite 99 friends into one private party or turn a single Switch into a shared-screen multiplayer setup.

The world is built around informal interactions: meeting someone by a campfire, heading out to fish or inviting people to see your home. Spry Fox hasn’t given a separate fixed party-size figure in its Nintendo store description.

Does Spirit Crossing multiplayer require Switch Online?

Yes, for online play with other people. Nintendo says you need a Nintendo Account, internet access and a paid Nintendo Switch Online membership. Check the membership on the account you’ll use with the game.

Even if you plan to spend the afternoon decorating alone, Nintendo UK’s page says a persistent connection is required to play. You shouldn’t buy it expecting an offline game for a train journey without internet.

Both Nintendo versions release on 16 November 2026. Our Spirit Crossing release-date guide covers the launch and what you can do in the world.

Can you play Spirit Crossing solo?

Yes. Spry Fox explicitly encourages players to enjoy the world alone or together. You can decorate your mountain home, explore and fish without arranging a group of friends before logging in.

Other people are part of the larger social setting, but that doesn’t mean every activity must be completed with a party. You can join in when you want company and take your time when you don’t.

Does Spirit Crossing have local couch co-op?

Nintendo’s single-system player count is one. There isn’t an advertised split-screen or two-player couch mode in these listings. To play alongside a friend, plan around the documented online multiplayer system.

For a different relaxed online co-op game with a smaller group limit, see our Bao Bao multiplayer guide. It supports up to four players online.

Can original Switch and Switch 2 players join the same game?

Spirit Crossing has separate products for Switch and Switch 2, but Nintendo’s product warning is about save data and additional content. That warning doesn’t establish whether the two editions can join the same online areas. For friends buying different editions, seek confirmation of cross-edition multiplayer before depending on it.

The restriction that is explicit is that progress and extras won’t transfer between the games. Our Spirit Crossing save-transfer guide explains how that affects anyone thinking of changing versions.

What can friends do in Spirit Crossing multiplayer?

Spry Fox describes helping restore connections between worlds and facing magical storms together. Between larger activities, you can fish, chat at a campfire and welcome visitors to a home you’ve decorated with furniture, plants and other items.

It’s a cooperative social world, not a game advertised around set raid groups. The Spirit Crossing multiplayer experience is about shared time and small interactions, whether you’re busy helping spirits or doing very little at all.

Spirit Crossing multiplayer: launch-day checklist

The two Nintendo editions arrive on 16 November 2026. Before playing with friends, confirm each person has the correct game, working internet and the membership needed for online features. Nintendo lists up to 100 online players but doesn’t identify a matching private-lobby capacity.

The simplest way to understand Spirit Crossing multiplayer is this: one person per console, up to 100 online, solo activities supported, internet always required. The shared world is the attraction, and it doesn’t need to be a nonstop group session.
