Pokémon GO TCG 30th Celebration Event is a US retail crossover running from September 27 to October 20, 2026, with Mega Gengar raids and location-unlocked Timed Research at participating Best Buy, GameStop and Target stores. It is a compact event, but it has three genuinely different reward routes that are easy to mix up if you arrive without knowing which one requires a store visit and which one requires a purchase.
Pokémon GO TCG 30th Celebration Event also continues after the store-claim window in two important ways. Claimed Timed Research can be finished through November 20, while eligible Pokémon GO gift cards bought from the three participating retailers can award the Gengar Knit Cap when redeemed through October 31, giving each part of the promotion its own deadline.

Pokémon GO TCG 30th Celebration Event Dates and Who Can Play

Pokémon GO TCG 30th Celebration Event runs from September 27 at 10:00 a.m. until October 20, 2026 at 10:00 p.m. local time at participating Best Buy, GameStop and Target retail locations in the United States. The gameplay is location based, so simply being in the US is not enough: the store must be participating and the game needs to recognise that you are at the location.
The retail event is separate from buying physical Pokémon TCG 30th Celebration products. Visiting the store is what unlocks the Pokémon GO Timed Research and boosted Mega Gengar activity, while buying and redeeming an eligible Pokémon GO gift card is a separate route to the Gengar Knit Cap avatar item.

Pokémon GO TCG 30th Celebration Event Timed Research Rewards
Pokémon GO TCG 30th Celebration Event includes a three-step Bonus Timed Research track once it is successfully added to your account. The live tasks focus on throws, Ghost-type catches and Berry use, progressing through Gastly, Haunter and Gengar encounters while also paying out Poké Balls, Berries and useful premium items.
The final completion rewards include an Incubator on the first page, 50 Gastly Candy on the second and two Lucky Eggs on the third. That makes the research worth claiming even if Mega Gengar is not your main target, particularly because the completion deadline extends a full month beyond the date the research can last be obtained.
Pokémon GO TCG 30th Celebration Event Mega Gengar Raids
Pokémon GO TCG 30th Celebration Event makes Mega Gengar appear more frequently in Mega Raids at participating stores. Winning gives the usual post-Mega-Raid Gengar encounter and the official event announcement marks Gengar as Shiny eligible, although it does not publish a special event Shiny rate.
Mega Gengar is Ghost and Poison type, so strong Ghost, Dark, Psychic and Ground attackers are the natural counter groups. Store-based raid availability can be more limited than a citywide raid event, so check the nearby raid map after arriving rather than assuming every Gym at the retailer will immediately host Mega Gengar.
How the Gengar Knit Cap Works During Pokémon GO TCG 30th Celebration Event
Pokémon GO TCG 30th Celebration Event also has a purchase-linked avatar reward. Redeem an eligible Pokémon GO gift card bought from Target, GameStop or Best Buy between September 27 and October 31 through the Pokémon GO Web Store offer-redemption system and the account receives the Gengar Knit Cap.
The cap is limited to one per account. Trainers who already own the Gengar Knit Cap receive an alternate item of equal value instead, so buying multiple eligible gift cards is not a way to stack copies of the cosmetic.
Pokémon GO TCG 30th Celebration Event Checklist
Pokémon GO TCG 30th Celebration Event is easiest to handle as three separate jobs: claim the store research before October 20, raid Mega Gengar while you are physically at a participating retailer, and redeem an eligible gift card before October 31 if you want the cap. The Timed Research itself then remains completable until November 20.
For collectors following the card release as well as the mobile event, the linked Pokémon TCG 30th Celebration card and product guides cover the physical set separately. Keeping the two promotions distinct avoids confusing an in-store Pokémon GO unlock with a physical TCG purchase requirement.
- Open Pokémon GO while physically at a participating Best Buy, GameStop or Target.
- Confirm the Bonus Timed Research has appeared before leaving the store.
- Check nearby Mega Raids for Mega Gengar.
- Finish and claim the research before November 20 at 10:00 p.m. local time.
- Redeem an eligible retailer gift card by October 31 if you want the Gengar Knit Cap.
