What Are Regional Pokémon in Pokémon GO?
Regional Pokémon are Pokémon that normally appear only within a particular geographical area.
A regional Pokémon may be restricted to a continent, country, hemisphere or smaller location. Klefki, for example, is normally associated with France and some nearby areas, while Comfey is normally found in Hawaii.
Other regional Pokémon divide the world into much larger areas. Some forms may appear in different hemispheres, while others are divided between eastern and western parts of the world.
Regional restrictions can affect several encounter methods, including:

Do Regional Pokémon Ever Become Available Worldwide?
Yes. Pokémon GO events occasionally allow Trainers to encounter regional Pokémon outside their ordinary locations.
Large events such as Pokémon GO Fest and Pokémon GO Tour have previously featured region-exclusive Pokémon through wild encounters, Incense, Eggs, raids or event Research. Smaller themed events can also temporarily change the availability of a particular regional Pokémon.
These appearances do not necessarily mean that the Pokémon has permanently lost its regional status. Once the event finishes, it may return to its usual part of the world.

How to Get Regional Pokémon Without Travelling
Travelling to another part of the world is the most direct way to find many regional exclusives, but it is not the only option.
Trade With Other Trainers
Trading is one of the best ways to collect a regional Pokémon that does not spawn where you live.
Players often save spare regionals after travelling specifically so they can trade them later. Local Pokémon GO communities, Campfire groups and in-person events can help you meet Trainers who have visited other regions.
Remember that trading must be completed within the required in-game distance and that a Pokémon can only be traded once.
Watch for Global Events
Regional Pokémon frequently become much easier to obtain during major events.
Check each event announcement carefully because a featured regional may only be available through one specific method, such as Incense, raids, Eggs or ticket-exclusive encounters.
A Pokémon appearing globally during an event may also have different Shiny odds or requirements from its normal regional appearance.
Attend In-Person Pokémon GO Events
Pokémon GO Fest, City Safari and other live events sometimes feature Pokémon that are not normally available in the host city.

Are Regional Pokémon Available as Shinies?
Many regional Pokémon can be Shiny, but not every regional Pokémon or regional form has an available Shiny version.

A regional Pokémon featured through a particular event, raid or Research reward may have different availability rules. Check the current event details before spending Raid Passes, Incubators or other premium items.
Shiny Pokémon are also not guaranteed, even during events with boosted odds.
Do Regional Forms Count Separately?
The Pokémon GO regional Pokémon tracker treats important region-exclusive forms as separate collection entries.
This is useful for Pokémon whose forms are distributed across different parts of the world. Collecting one form does not necessarily mean that you have completed the entire regional set.
Examples can include Pokémon with:
- Different colour forms
- Different dance or style forms

- Northern and southern availability
- Hemisphere-specific forms
- Region-specific breeds
Ordinary evolutions are not always treated as separate regional targets. If a regional Pokémon can simply be evolved after it has been caught, the original regional encounter is generally the important collection milestone.

Tips for Completing Your Regional Pokémon Collection
Before travelling, check which regional Pokémon appear at your destination and whether they are currently available through wild encounters, Eggs or raids.
Weather, habitats, seasons and active events can all affect how easy a regional Pokémon is to locate. A Pokémon being assigned to a region does not guarantee that it will appear immediately after you arrive.
Save spare regional Pokémon when you travel. Even common local Pokémon may be highly desirable to Trainers from another part of the world.
It is also worth keeping a small number of older regional catches. Trading Pokémon caught far apart can contribute towards trade-distance medals and may make your collection particularly useful to other players.
