How to get the Pokémon GO Clefairy Special Background

Moonlight O’Clock can produce Clefairy with the event background at 12:00 p.m., 1:00 p.m., 7:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. local time.

The two consecutive Timed Research opportunities also include Special Background Clefairy encounters in the official reward description.

Moonlit Path live tasks

The first live research asks for catches, Nice Throws, one Daily Adventure Incense use and catches across two and three different days.

That means the guaranteed research route cannot necessarily be rushed in a single session.

Can the Special Background Clefairy be Shiny?

Clefairy is Shiny eligible during the event. A Special Background Clefairy can therefore potentially also be Shiny if the encounter rolls that way.

No guaranteed Shiny or official numerical rate is announced.

Updated event end date

The current official event page ends Dancing in the Moonlight on September 28 at 11:59 p.m. local time.

Older September 28 text should not be used for the live spawn schedule.

Research deadlines

The first research expires September 29. The second must be completed within three days of receiving it.

Those deadlines let the research outlive the main event in some cases, but the scheduled Moonlight O’Clock wild windows stop with the event itself.

Regional availability

The distribution is announced for Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Indonesia, Singapore, Hong Kong and Malaysia.

Outside those markets, trading later may be the practical route to owning the background version.

How to avoid confusing background and normal Clefairy encounters

Pokémon GO Clefairy Special Background availability is tied to specific event rewards, not every Clefairy that appears during Dancing in the Moonlight. Wild catches are still useful for Candy and Shiny checks, but they should not be treated as equivalent background attempts.

When claiming an eligible encounter, check the caught Pokémon’s summary screen rather than assuming the background was awarded from the event name alone. That makes Pokémon GO Clefairy Special Background collecting much less confusing when normal and special encounters are being caught in the same session.

The research deadline matters more than the wider season calendar. If the eligible encounter is still sitting behind unfinished Timed Research, Pokémon GO Clefairy Special Background access can disappear when that research expires.
