Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller replaceable battery models are coming to Europe this winter, Nintendo has confirmed. The revised controller will have a battery that can be replaced by the owner using a future official replacement kit. Its capacity is 897mAh rather than 1070mAh, and its weight falls from about 235g to 228g.
If you’re buying in the UK, there’s one catch: Nintendo has not given a fixed release day or a price for the revised controller or its replacement kit. Shops will switch stock over gradually, so buying a new Pro Controller right now does not necessarily mean you’re getting the new battery design.
Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller replaceable battery: what actually changes?
The main change is easier battery replacement later on, not a different set of buttons or gameplay features. The C Button for GameChat, mappable GL and GR buttons and built-in headset socket remain. Nintendo explicitly says there is no change to functionality between the current and updated hardware, so this isn’t a more powerful controller or an exclusive new accessory for particular games.

| Detail | Current model | Revised model |
|---|---|---|
| Battery | 1070mAh | 897mAh |
| Replacement | Nintendo support service | User-replaceable design, with official kit planned |
| Approximate weight | 235g | 228g |
| Functions | C Button, GL/GR, audio jack | No changes announced |
| European sale | Existing stock | Estimated winter 2026, rolling stock |
Nintendo says the Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller replaceable battery is approximately 16% smaller in battery capacity. That’s a difference between battery ratings, not confirmed hours of gameplay. The existing Switch 2 Pro Controller is advertised at about 40 hours, depending on how it’s used; Nintendo has not yet published an independently confirmed runtime for the winter version. It would be wrong to claim exactly 16% less playtime.
When is the revised Pro Controller available in the UK?
Nintendo’s official date is simply this winter, referring to its winter 2026 rollout. The company warns that arrival dates could change because of production and shipping, and that different European countries or retailers may receive stock at different times. There is no reliable UK day or hour to put on a countdown.
The UK is on Nintendo’s list of markets for the revised products. On Nintendo Store, one version will replace the other as stock sells out, rather than letting shoppers pick whichever battery design they want. If the Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller replaceable battery is the reason you’re buying, wait for a listing that specifically confirms the revised model or ask the retailer to identify its stock.
How do I identify the Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller replaceable battery model?
Nintendo’s pairing documentation identifies the Switch 2 Pro Controller family as BEE-008. The research also identifies a BEE-008(-01) variant in Nintendo’s product-security records, but that alone is not enough to guarantee which retail box contains the user-replaceable battery. Nintendo has not provided a verified UK serial-prefix checklist for customers to use in shops.
The pictures here show the current controller, not a verified view of the revised battery compartment. Don’t assume a different colour of packaging, a special-edition print or an online photo proves you have the Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller replaceable battery. Look for a clear manufacturer description on the exact item being sold instead.

Can an original Switch 2 Pro Controller get the new battery?
A software update cannot make the original controller’s battery user-replaceable. Nintendo’s existing product description says that the original internal battery is not removable by the owner and should be handled by customer support if it needs replacing. A future user replacement kit is intended for the hardware designed to accept it.
Nintendo intends to sell compatible replacement kits for the revised models through Nintendo Store in Europe. At the time of its announcement, however, it had not set the UK price or confirmed when the Pro Controller kit would go on sale. Avoid an unofficial disassembly guide or buying a kit for another Nintendo product and hoping it fits.
Will the lower capacity affect games or charging?
Nintendo has not announced changes to gameplay features or the way you pair the controller. The new design is expected to behave like the current Switch 2 Pro Controller in compatible games. The quoted 7g weight saving is small and doesn’t by itself guarantee a difference you’ll notice while playing.
The Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller replaceable battery also shouldn’t be confused with Nintendo’s revised console or Joy-Con 2 controllers. Those are separate products with their own capacities, weights and rollout schedules. Nintendo’s broader battery programme responds to European regulations coming into effect in February 2027, rather than a new game feature.
Should you wait to buy one?
If being able to replace a worn-out battery yourself is a priority, it makes sense to check the revision before ordering. If you already have a working original controller, Nintendo says owners do not need to do anything because of the upcoming rules. Products sold before the regulatory change do not suddenly become unusable or unsupported.
Check special editions separately, including the Zelda anniversary controller. Whether a particular edition has the Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller replaceable battery design needs confirmation for its exact model, not an assumption based on another console bundle. Look for the exact hardware version on the listing rather than relying on the expected release season.
