How to Get Kurta Pikachu in Pokémon GO Festival of Lights 2026

How to Get Kurta Pikachu in Pokémon GO

How to Get Kurta Pikachu in Pokémon GO is answered by three Festival of Lights mechanics in India: event raids, the four nightly Sparkle O’Clock bursts and the Kurta branch of the free Timed Research.

Kurta Pikachu is a returning costume, but 2026 adds strong collection targets because repeatable encounters can carry a Special Background and the costume remains Shiny eligible.

During the November 6 to 8 event, a repeatable method for How to Get Kurta Pikachu in Pokémon GO is raiding. Kurta Pikachu appears alongside Saree Pikachu in the event raid pool.

A successful raid gives a catch encounter and can produce a Shiny or Special Background Kurta Pikachu if you are lucky. Raids are less time-restricted than the five-minute Sparkle windows.

Kurta Pikachu Sparkle O’Clock times

Kurta Pikachu can spawn during Sparkle O’Clock at 6:00 p.m., 6:30 p.m., 7:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. local time. Each burst lasts five minutes.

For How to Get Kurta Pikachu in Pokémon GO, this is useful because it consumes no raid pass and can still produce the Special Background version. The limitation is only twenty minutes of Sparkle time per day.

Choose the Kurta Timed Research path

The branched Timed Research opens November 1. Selecting the Kurta branch leads to an encounter with Kurta Pikachu carrying a Special Background plus the announced sticker rewards.

If your main objective in How to Get Kurta Pikachu in Pokémon GO is one Special Background copy, this route is more predictable than repeatedly checking raids or wild spawns.

Shiny Kurta Pikachu and Special Backgrounds

Kurta Pikachu can be Shiny in 2026. Pokémon GO marks its raid, Sparkle O’Clock and research sources as Shiny eligible but does not disclose a numerical rate.

A Shiny and a Special Background are separate properties. The safest way to use How to Get Kurta Pikachu in Pokémon GO is to treat each repeatable encounter as another check rather than assuming research guarantees a Shiny.

Getting Kurta Pikachu outside India

The announced gameplay is restricted to India, so accounts elsewhere do not receive local raids, Sparkle O’Clock or research. Travel into India during the event or trading later are the realistic collection routes.

Trading does not remove normal distance restrictions. How to Get Kurta Pikachu in Pokémon GO outside India is therefore not solved by assuming a worldwide remote distribution that the announcement never promises.

How to Get Kurta Pikachu in Pokémon GO: best way to get the Special Background

Start with the Kurta branch of the event Timed Research, available in India from November 1 at 6:00 a.m. IST. It awards the Kurta costume with a Special Background, plus other advertised rewards including XP, Stardust and stickers. The individual task list and a separate research claim deadline are not provided in the event announcement, so check the actual Research tab when it opens.

You can still encounter Kurta Pikachu even if you choose the Saree research branch. Both costumes feature in event raids from November 6 at 10:00 a.m. until November 8 at 8:00 p.m. IST. Raid encounters have a chance of being Shiny or carrying the Special Background, but those outcomes are not guaranteed.

Where to find Kurta Pikachu during Sparkle O’Clock

On November 6, 7 and 8, look during the four five-minute wild spawn bursts at 6:00, 6:30, 7:00 and 7:30 p.m. local Indian time. Clear some storage in advance and prioritise the costumed Pikachu if those are your targets. The three-times-duration Lure Module bonus instead promotes eight other listed Pokémon, not either costumed Pikachu in the special Lure pool.

Every Kurta Pikachu you catch is worth inspecting. Its outfit, Shiny appearance and Special Background are separate traits. Open the Pokémon’s summary to check for the collectible event design. Do not assume the costume means the background is automatically included outside the chosen research reward.

How to Get Kurta Pikachu in Pokémon GO outside the research path

Use raids for repeated encounter opportunities if you are in India, and Sparkle O’Clock if you want wild checks without spending Raid Passes. Both can provide more copies of Kurta Pikachu and may yield Shiny or background versions. Neither method publishes a boosted percentage, and the announcement does not give a guaranteed minimum number of encounters.

This year’s Festival of Lights is exclusive to Trainers in India. Players outside India cannot expect the country’s Timed Research or scheduled local spawns to appear automatically on their own maps. Remote raid invitations and future trades are separate game mechanics and should not be confused with worldwide activation of the event.

The research branch is a single decision about the chosen background costume, not a ban on catching the other Pikachu during the main weekend. If you are collecting both outfits, plan your raid encounters and evening wild checks around the November 8 closing time. Niantic has not announced the next opportunity to catch these 2026 festival costumes.

Our guide to Saree Pikachu explains how its research branch differs. Check the Special Background guide as well if you are collecting the event artwork rather than simply registering the costume in your Pokédex.
