Genshin Impact - Wanderer - Scaramouche - Build Guide

Last Updated on: 15th December 2022, 12:54 am

The Wanderer is a playable 5-star Anemo character in Genshin Impact. Better known formerly as the Fatui Harbinger Scaramouche, this character was initially created by the Inazuman Archon Ei as a Gnosis-bearing puppet. However, he was later deemed a failure by the Electro Archon and was abandoned.

This guide will discuss the Wanderer‘s talents, constellations, recommended roles, best weapons, artifact sets, and more! So, if you want to add this character to your team, feel free to read on.

The Wanderer’s Talents and Priority

Thanks to his Elemental Skill (Hanega: Song of the Wind), the Wanderer is the first character in Genshin Impact to have actual flight mechanics. While we have seen some form of flight from other Anemo characters in the past, the Wanderer’s mechanic is unique. Using the Wanderer’s Elemental Skill will give him access to another Stamina bar for this hovering state, allowing him to “sprint” mid-air to accelerate his movement and “jump” to fly even higher.

This state is called the Windfavored state. While it sounds like a helpful exploration mechanic, it’s not limited to flying; it also buffs the Wanderer’s Normal and Charged Attacks, with the latter not consuming any stamina.

Moreover, his 1st and 2nd ascension passive talents further enhance this Windfavored state. For his 1st ascension passive, he gets buffed depending on the element/s that he comes into contact with while unleashing his Elemental Skill. On the other hand, his 2nd ascension passive gives him a chance to trigger the Descent effect, which fires off wind arrows while he “sprints” in the Windfavored state, increasing his damage potential. If the Descent effect is active, his mid-air sprint will not reduce his Windfavored state stamina.

Lastly, his Burst is relatively straightforward. It simply deals multiple instances of AoE Anemo DMG. However, the Burst animation is interesting, as it makes the Wanderer step on you! Or his enemies, rather!

Based on his talent descriptions, the Wanderer will take most of the field time to deal damage. This means that leveling up all his talents is essential. However, if you have limited resources, we recommend prioritizing his talents in the following order:

  • 1st priority – Normal Attack
  • 2nd priority – Elemental Skill
  • 3rd priority – Elemental Burst

Note that while the Wanderer’s Elemental Skill sounds like his most crucial mechanic, we recommend prioritizing his Normal Attack, as the multiplier of his attacks while in the Windfavored state is still based on his Normal Attack.

Normal Attack – Yuuban MeigenNormal Attack
Performs up to 3 attacks using wind blades, dealing Anemo DMG.

Charged Attack
Consumes a certain amount of Stamina, gathers a build up of high wind pressure, and deals AoE Anemo DMG after a short casting time.

Plunging Attack
Calling upon the power of Anemo, the Wanderer plunges towards the ground from mid-air, damaging all opponents in his path. Deals AoE Anemo DMG upon impact with the ground.
Elemental Skill – Hanega: Song of the WindConcentrates the power of the winds to break free from the shackles of the earth, dealing AoE Anemo DMG before leaping into the air and entering the Windfavored state.

Windfavored

The Wanderer cannot perform Plunging Attacks in this state. When he uses Normal and Charged Attacks, they will be converted into Kuugo: Fushoudan and Kuugo: Toufukai respectively; the DMG they deal and their AoE will be increased, and their DMG will be considered Normal and Charged Attack DMG respectively. Kuugo: Toufukai will not consume Stamina.

The Wanderer will hover persistently during this time. While this state is active, the Wanderer’s movements gain the following properties:

– Persistently consumes Kuugoryoku Points to maintain this hovering state.
– When sprinting, additional Kuugoryoku Points will be consumed for the Wanderer to accelerate mid-air. Holding sprint will cause persistent Kuugoryoku Point consumption to maintain speed. This effect will replace his default sprint.
– Jumping expends extra Kuugoryoku Points to increase hovering height. Holding jump will cause persistent Kuugoryoku Point consumption to keep increasing hovering height.

Running out of Kuugoryoku Points will end the Windfavored state.
A second cast during the duration of Windfavored will also end it.
Elemental Burst – Kyougen: Five Ceremonial PlaysCompresses the atmosphere into a singlular vacuum that grinds all troubles away, dealing multiple instances of AoE Anemo DMG. If the character is in the Windfavored state due to the skill “Hanega: Song of the Wind,” Windfavored state will end after casting.
1st Ascension Passive – Jade-Claimed FlowerIf Hanega: Song of the Wind comes into contact with Hydro/Pyro/Cryo/Electro when it is unleashed, this instance of the Windfavored state will obtain buffs according to the contacted element(s):

Hydro: Kuugoryoku Point cap increases by 20.
Pyro: ATK increases by 30%.
Cryo: CRIT Rate increases by 20%.
Electro: When Normal and Charged Attacks hit an opponent, 0.8 Energy will be restored. Energy can be restored this way every 0.2s.

You can have up to 2 different kinds of these buffs simultaneously.
4th Ascension Passive – Gales of ReverieWhen the Wanderer hits opponents with Kuugo: Fushoudan or Kuugo: Toufukai in his Windfavored state, he has a 16% chance to obtain the Descent effect: The next time the Wanderer accelerates in mid-air while in this instance of the Windfavored state, this effect will be removed, this acceleration instance will not consume any Kuugoryoku Points, and he will fire off 4 wind arrows that deal 35% of his ATK as Anemo DMG each.

For each Kuugo: Fushoudan and Kuugo: Toufukai that does not produce this effect, the next attack of those types will have a 12% increased chance of producing it. The calculation of the effect production is done once every 0.1s.
Utility Passive – Strum the Swirling WindsMora expended when ascending Bows and Catalysts is decreased by 50%.

Constellations and Effects

Like most 5-star characters, the Wanderer is already great at C0 (no constellations). However, if you really want the best for him, C6 will undeniably make him godlike! This constellation allows him to deal extra damage and restores Kuugoryoku Points, the points considered as stamina during his hovering state.

We understand that C6 will cost a lot and will unlikely be attainable soon for free-to-play or low-spending players. With this in mind, we recommend stopping at C2, as this constellation increases his Burst damage to up to 200%! Still, as mentioned, there is no pressure in getting constellations for the Wanderer, as he is already amazing without them.

LEVELCONSTELLATIONEFFECT
1Shoban: Ostentatious PlumageWhen in the Windfavored state, the Attack SPD of the Wanderer’s Kuugo: Fushoudan and Kuugo: Toufukai is increased by 10%.

Additionally, the wind arrows fired by the Passive Talent “Gales of Reverie” will deal an additional 25% of his ATK as DMG. You must unlock the Passive Talent “Gales of Reverie” first.
2Niban: Moonlit Isle Amidst White WavesWhen in the Windfavored state, Kyougen: Five Ceremonial Plays will see its DMG increased by 4% per point of difference between the max amount of Kuugoryoku Points contrasted with Kuugoryoku’s present capacity when using this skill.

Through this method, you can increase Kyougen: Five Ceremonial Plays’s DMG by a maximum of 200%.
3Sanban: Moonflower KusemaiIncreases the Level of Kyougen: Five Ceremonial Plays by 3.
Maximum upgrade level is 15.
4Yonban: Set Adrift into SpringWhen casting Hanega: Song of the Wind, should the Passive Talent “Jade-Claimed Flower” be triggered, the character will gain buffs in correspondence to the contacted Elemental Type(s), and also obtain a random untriggered buff. A maximum of 3 such corresponding elemental buffs can exist simultaneously.
You must unlock the Passive Talent “Jade-Claimed Flower” first.
5Matsuban: Ancient Illuminator From AbroadIncreases the Level of Hanega: Song of the Wind by 3.
Maximum upgrade level is 15.
6Shugen: The Curtains’ Melancholic SwayWhen the Wanderer actively hits an opponent with Kuugo: Fushoudan while in the Windfavored state, the following effects will occur:

– Deals an additional instance of Kuugo: Fushoudan at the position hit, dealing 40% of the attack’s original DMG. This DMG will be considered Normal Attack DMG.
– When the Wanderer falls below 40 Kuugoryoku Points, restores 4 Points to him. Kuugoryoku Points can be restored in this manner once every 0.2s. This restoration can occur up to 5 times within one Windfavored duration.

Recommended Roles and Teams for the Wanderer

As previously mentioned, the Wanderer will take most of the field time in your team to deal significant damage. Therefore, you can build him as your Main DPS or On-field Driver.

Note that the Wanderer’s teammates are flexible. However, below is one team composition that we highly recommend.

SHIELDED WANDERER

MAIN DPSSUPPORT/SUB-DPSSHIELD SUPPORTHEALER/SUPPORT
– Wanderer– Faruzan– Layla
– Zhongli
– Diona
– Thoma
– Bennett
– Diona

One thing you should remember when playing as the Wanderer is that he doesn’t have a mechanic that increases his resistance to interruption. This makes him vulnerable to getting interrupted while in his hovering state. Because of this, you might consider including a Shield Support unit, such as the 4-star Cryo units Layla or Diona, the 4-star Pyro character Thoma, and the 5-star Geo character Zhongli.

All these shielders can contribute to your damage as well. Being Cryo units, Layla and Diona can increase the Wanderer’s CRIT Rate during his Windfavored state because of his 1st Ascension passive. If you choose the Pyro character Thoma, he can increase the Wanderer’s ATK through the same passive. Lastly, while Geo characters do not contribute to the Wanderer’s Windfavored state, Zhongli can shred the Elemental RES of your enemies.

Of course, the 4-star Anemo character Faruzan is a must in your team if you want to increase the Wanderer’s personal damage output, as she is THE Anemo support unit that can buff Anemo DMG and shred enemies’ Anemo RES.

Lastly, you can have the 4-star Pyro character Bennett as your healer. The good thing about him is that he will also buff your ATK.

In summary, this Shielded Wanderer team recommendation should have the Wanderer and Faruzan, a Cryo unit, and a Pyro Unit. In this case, the Cryo and/or Pyro unit should be able to provide a shield. Again, Cryo and Pyro will further enhance the Wanderer’s damage output if he unlocks his 1st Ascension Passive.

As mentioned earlier, however, the Wanderer’s teammates are flexible. It will most likely depend on your playstyle and the availability of characters, so feel free to use whichever characters you have that will fit the roles we recommended.

Recommended Weapons for the Wanderer

Tulaytullah’s Remembrance

As previously mentioned, Tulaytullah’s Remembrance is the BiS weapon for the Wanderer. This catalyst increases his Normal ATK SPD, which is valuable for the Wanderer to dish out more attacks and deal more damage. Moreover, this is significant for a better chance of triggering the Descent Effect from his 4th ascension passive. Aside from the increase of his ATK SPD, this weapon increases his Normal Attack DMG after unleashing his Elemental Skill. Learn more about Tulaytullah’s Remembrance here.

Lost Prayer to the Sacred Winds

This catalyst is a 5-star alternative if you’re not planning to pull for Tulaytullah’s Remembrance. In fact, Lost Prayer to the Sacred Winds is relatively easier to obtain as it is one of the Standard 5-star weapons and might already be sitting in your inventory. While it has a lower ATK stat than the Wanderer’s signature weapon, it can increase the Wanderer’s CRIT Rate, allowing him to deal with more consistent CRIT DMG. Aside from this, this catalyst has a stackable Elemental DMG Bonus, which is an excellent buff for any DPS catalyst user. Learn more about Lost Prayer to the Sacred Winds here.

Skyward Atlas

Just like Lost Prayer to the Sacred Winds, Skyward Atlas is another alternative 5-star weapon for the Wanderer. This gives him a considerable ATK increase and a passive skill that deals extra damage.

The Widsith

This catalyst is one, if not the best 4-star catalyst for the Wanderer. It has the lowest ATK stat among all the weapons on this list, but it provides a considerable CRIT DMG bonus that is even higher than Tulaytullah’s Remembrance. With The Widsith, switching to the Wanderer significantly increases one of the following: ATK, Elemental DMG, or Elemental Mastery. However, since the Wanderer’s DMG output doesn’t rely heavily on Swirl reactions, the bonus EM is not the best you can get. Still, it won’t get wasted if you put him in a team that reacts with Anemo. You can review Elemental Reactions here.

Mappa Mare

Credit: HoYoverse, TheClick.gg

This one is the only craftable weapon among all the weapons on this list, making it relatively easy to obtain. For a 4-star weapon, its ATK stat can already be considered high. On the other hand, this catalyst gives you a stackable Elemental DMG Bonus similar to Lost Prayer to the Sacred Winds. Of course, since Mappa Mare is a 4-star weapon, Lost Prayer to the Sacred Winds is still the better choice between the two. Another thing to note is that Mappa Mare increases EM, which isn’t something that the Wanderer really needs.

Recommended Artifact Sets and Stat Priority for the Wanderer

While the Wanderer’s Troupe has our Anemo boy’s name on it, it’s not the ideal artifact set for him. Instead, below are our recommended artifact sets for the Wanderer:

ARTIFACT SETEFFECTS
Desert Pavilion Chronicle2-piece: Anemo DMG Bonus +15%.
4-piece: When Charged Attacks hit opponents, the equipping character’s Normal Attack SPD will increase by 10% while Normal, Charged, and Plunging Attack DMG will increase by 40% for 15s.
Shimenawa’s Reminiscence2-piece: ATK +18%
4-piece: When casting an Elemental Skill, if the character has 15 or more Energy, they lose 15 Energy and Normal/Charged/Plunging Attack DMG is increased by 50% for 10s. This effect will not trigger again during that duration.
Echoes of an Offering2-piece: ATK +18%.
4-piece: When Normal Attacks hit opponents, there is a 36% chance that it will trigger Valley Rite, which will increase Normal Attack DMG by 70% of ATK. This effect will be dispelled 0.05s after a Normal Attack deals DMG. If a Normal Attack fails to trigger Valley Rite, the odds of it triggering the next time will increase by 20%. This trigger can occur once every 0.2s.
Viridescent Venerer2-piece: Anemo DMG Bonus +15%
4-piece: Increases Swirl DMG by 60%. Decreases opponent’s Elemental RES to the element infused in the Swirl by 40% for 10s.

To maximize the Wanderer’s DPS potential, we highly recommend a 4-piece Desert Pavilion Chronicle set, one of the new artifact sets introduced during the 3.3 Livestream. This artifact set is obviously designed to suit his play style. However, do note that you need to use his Charged ATK first to take advantage of this set’s ATK SPD buff and DMG increase.

If you don’t have decent Desert Pavilion Chronicle pieces, another option is a 4-piece Shimenawa’s Reminiscence set. The Normal/Charged/Plunging Attack buff this set provides will significantly increase the Wanderer’s damage output. However, it’s important to note that the Wanderer will lose 15 Energy for the buff to take effect.

Another recommendation is a 4-piece Echoes of an Offering set, as this set can increase the Wanderer’s Normal Attack DMG by a whopping 70%!

Of course, you can also use a 4-piece Viridescent Venerer set, which you might already have. However, this set is only recommended if you use the Wanderer as an on-field driver or the one that triggers his teammates’ off-field skills to deal damage. In other words, this set is recommended only if the Wanderer is not used as a “hyper carry.”

Lastly, you can also combine artifact sets if the pieces under these sets have desirable stats. For instance, you can combine any 2-piece set with ATK +18% and any 2-piece set with Anemo DMG Bonus +15%.

Speaking of desirable stats, we recommend that you consider the following artifact main stats for the Wanderer:

  • Sands â€“ ATK%
  • Goblet â€“ Anemo DMG
  • Circlet â€“ CRIT Rate or CRIT DMG (depending on what you need)

For the substats, be on the lookout for CRIT Rate/DMG and ATK. He can also use some Elemental Mastery and Energy Recharge. But these are low-priority.
