Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Power Mode: How Gear, Runes and Masteries Count

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Power mode arrives on 5 November 2026. It’s an optional way to calculate Eivor’s overall Power using three things: gear, runes and masteries.

The feature comes with New Game+ and Mithril upgrades, so returning players will have more ways to develop a character. Ubisoft has named the three contributors, but hasn’t released the numbers behind the calculation or instructions for switching the mode on.

What is Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Power mode?

Rather than looking at only a traditional progression level, the optional setting brings Gear, Runes and Masteries into Eivor’s Power. That gives equipped items and rune choices a stated role alongside mastery progression.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Power mode is explicitly optional. Ubisoft hasn’t said whether the setting can be changed during a save or whether it requires New Game+. Those are separate questions from how the Power total is calculated.

There is also no confirmed menu location or minimum Power requirement. A reliable activation walkthrough needs the November 5 patch notes or the updated game, not a guessed toggle location.

Which stats contribute to Power?

Confirmed contributor What it covers
Gear The equipment Eivor uses
Runes Rune enhancements associated with equipment
Masteries Eivor’s mastery progression

All three categories are confirmed, but Ubisoft hasn’t published their relative weighting. There’s no reliable conversion between a rune upgrade, a piece of gear and a mastery level yet.

For Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Power mode, that means equipment choices count towards the overall score alongside Eivor’s mastery development. It doesn’t establish one best build or make every high-quality item equally valuable.

How gear and Divine Gear upgrades fit in

Ubisoft says Divine Gear quality is being extended to all items in the November update. The new resource Mithril can upgrade Divine Gear, adding another way to develop the equipment that contributes to the optional Power calculation.

Favourite weapons and armour are worth revisiting when the update arrives, particularly as Divine Gear quality expands to all items. The exact Power benefit of each upgrade will only be clear once Ubisoft explains its calculation.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Power mode isn’t a recommendation to use one particular weapon. Its purpose is a broader progression score, and the new formula is still pending.

Do runes and masteries affect Power differently?

Runes and masteries are both included, but Ubisoft hasn’t shown how much either contributes. The update also introduces new runes and lets players strengthen them using Mithril.

That makes rune upgrades worth examining when the patch launches, but it doesn’t prove that one strengthened rune gives the same Power as a set number of mastery levels. Actual numbers will have to come from the new interface.

Our Mithril guide covers Divine Gear and rune upgrades. Those systems are relevant to Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Power mode, but Ubisoft has not published the numerical relationship between them.

Is Power mode the same as New Game Plus scaling?

No. Ubisoft separately confirms dedicated New Game+ scaling for players who replay Eivor’s main adventure while keeping much of their earlier progression. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Power mode is the optional way gear, runes and masteries can contribute to Eivor’s Power.

Both features arrive in the same update. Ubisoft hasn’t said the optional Power mode is required to begin New Game+, or that its calculation directly controls the separate replay scaling.

Our New Game+ guide explains the November 5 date, equipment carryover and what Ubisoft has said about replay difficulty. It also covers the announced stash, achievements and new Naoe-inspired outfit.

How to enable Power mode

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Power mode arrives on Thursday, 5 November 2026. The setting’s exact menu location and switching rules aren’t included in Ubisoft’s announcement, so avoid any guide claiming a confirmed button sequence before launch.

When the patch arrives, check the progression settings and Power readout before changing your build. The confirmed choices are clear: gear, runes and masteries all contribute, and using this progression mode is optional.
