Monster Hunter Outlanders Weapon Types include eight weapons at launch: Great Sword, Long Sword, Dual Blades, Hammer, Lance, Charge Blade, Heavy Bowgun and Bow. Charge Blade is the eighth entry, confirmed after early promotional lists had only seven types.

Choose by playstyle. Try Lance for guarding, Bow or Heavy Bowgun for distance, Dual Blades for quick melee, Great Sword or Hammer for heavy charged attacks, Long Sword for gauge and counter timing, and Charge Blade for switching forms.

Dual BladesFast melee and mobility
HammerCharged blunt attacks

For a safer defensive first option, try Lance. Its guard and thrust counters make it useful while learning a monster’s attack timing. Arkaya uses Lance as a Support Adventurer, while Ouyang Varen’s Lance kit leans into Assault. Blocking isn’t a substitute for positioning, but it gives you another tool while you learn.

If staying away from a monster sounds better, use Bow or Heavy Bowgun. Luka and Madelyn offer different Bow abilities, and Pepper’s Heavy Bowgun can deliver powerful ranged attacks. Range gives you space to read an attack, but you still need to evade charges and large area attacks.

Monster Hunter Outlanders Weapon Types: Great Sword, Hammer and Long Sword

Great Sword rewards waiting for a safe opening, landing a heavy charged hit and recovering before the next attack. Pyro’s kit builds on that burst style. If you prefer constant movement, Dual Blades are a better first comparison.

Hammer also uses strong charged attacks, with a focus on blunt damage and movement. Long Sword is more gauge-driven and requires planned timing; Midori uses it with Spirit Gauge mechanics. Neither one should be ranked by invented universal damage figures for the launch version.

Monster Hunter Outlanders Weapon Types: Dual Blades and fast melee

Dual Blades are built around quick strikes, movement and Demon Gauge mechanics. Keres and Raya both use them, although their signature abilities differ. They’re appealing if you like short attack windows and changing position frequently, rather than planting yourself beside the monster for a long charged move.

With Dual Blades, stop your combo early enough to evade. Watch your stamina, Demon Gauge and positioning in longer fights. Rapid attacks still require good timing, especially against monsters with wide swings.

Monster Hunter Outlanders Weapon Types: Is Charge Blade good?

Charge Blade switches between Sword Mode and Axe Mode, adding another layer of decisions to melee combat. The producer confirmed it for the October 29 launch after the first seven-weapon material. It is distinct from Switch Axe, which hasn’t been announced for the launch roster.

Charge Blade needs practice because it switches between Sword Mode and Axe Mode. Try the current game’s tutorial prompts rather than copying button combinations from Wilds or Rise. Its strength is adapting to an attack window, not simply always using the heavier form.

Monster Hunter Outlanders Weapon Types: Does your Adventurer matter?

Yes. Your custom Fated Adventurer can try the available weapons, but named Adventurers have fixed weapon and class identities. Pyro is a Great Sword Assault hunter, Arkaya is a Lance Support option, and Madelyn brings support abilities to her Bow. Those differences can matter more in a four-person hunt than the weapon’s name alone.

The character and companion index covers those roles. The complete weapons index is the main roster; this comparison is about deciding which one to learn first.

Monster Hunter Outlanders Weapon Types: can you change later?

You can experiment with other weapons on your Fated Adventurer, so your first choice isn’t a promise to use the same style forever. The named Adventurers have their own individual kits, which makes trying a different character another way to change combat.

The beginners guide covers your first hunts, while controller setup covers mobile input. These Monster Hunter Outlanders Weapon Types offer different answers to the same monster, so practise your preferred style before committing upgrades.
