The Monster Hunter Outlanders characters roster includes your custom Fated Adventurer, named hunters with fixed weapons and signature Hunting Arts, and three Buddy companions. The game launched on iOS and Android on October 29, 2026, with up to four-player co-op hunting.

Named Adventurers fill Assault, Disruptor and Support roles, while Palico, Rutaco and Trillan provide companion support. Start with the actual characters and their weapons before spending recruitment resources: two Adventurers can carry the same weapon yet play completely differently.

Monster Hunter Outlanders characters at launch: roles and weapons

Pyro uses Great Sword as an Assault Adventurer; Keres and Raya use Dual Blades as Disruptors; Luka uses Bow as Assault; Arkaya uses Lance as Support; Ouyang Varen uses Lance as Assault; Madelyn uses Bow as Support; Midori uses Long Sword as Assault; and Pepper uses Heavy Bowgun as Disruptor. The Fated Adventurer is your flexible custom hunter and can experiment with the broader launch weapon selection.

The confirmed weapon lineup now includes eight types with Charge Blade alongside Great Sword, Long Sword, Dual Blades, Hammer, Lance, Heavy Bowgun and Bow. See the full weapons index and the weapon choice guide for combat differences. A named Adventurer’s role and skills matter as much as their weapon.

Palico, Rutaco and Trillan are Buddies, not extra human players in a four-person co-op squad. The beginner guide explains the early hunt, and playing with friends covers party setup and regional-client checks.

Which Monster Hunter Outlanders characters are confirmed?

The official site currently profiles nine named Adventurers: Pyro, Keres, Luka, Arkaya, Raya, Ouyang Varen, Madelyn, Midori and Pepper. The Monster Hunter Outlanders characters are split across Assault, Disruptor and Support roles, with each profile also naming a weapon.

  • Pyro is an Assault Adventurer who uses Great Sword and turns absorbed pressure into powerful burst attacks.
  • Keres is a Disruptor who uses Dual Blades and chains rapid strikes into enhanced follow-ups.
  • Luka is an Assault Bow user whose skills interact with Thunder Coating and high mobility.
  • Arkaya is a Support Lance user who builds Resolve and can convert it into a heavy strike and shield.
  • Raya is a Disruptor with Dual Blades and skills that help build her Demon Gauge faster.
  • Ouyang Varen is an Assault Lance user focused on guarding, deflection and Impetus-powered thrusts.
  • Madelyn is a Support Bow user who applies Spores that can be detonated for damage and ally boosts.
  • Midori is an Assault Long Sword user whose graceful evasions and skills help build Spirit Gauge.
  • Pepper is a Disruptor Heavy Bowgun user with ranged firepower and airborne rapid-fire skills.

That variety is important because Monster Hunter Outlanders characters do not simply repeat one combat template with different models. Pyro and Midori are both Assault, for example, but Great Sword burst play and Long Sword gauge management create very different rhythms.

Who are the Monster Hunter Outlanders companions?

The confirmed Buddies are Rutaco, Trillan and Palico. They sit alongside the Monster Hunter Outlanders characters on the official roster but are presented as companions rather than normal Adventurers.

Rutaco is native to Aesoland and is skilled at using tools and Radiantite to build, with a Disruptor role on the official page. Trillan is another Aesoland native and uses its voice to support Adventurers, fitting the Support role. Palico travels with Adventurers to Aesoland and is described as skilled with different weapons and items, with the Assault role shown on the site.

How do Assault, Disruptor and Support roles differ?

The role names give the Monster Hunter Outlanders characters a party identity without replacing their weapon mechanics. Assault profiles emphasize direct damage and pressure. Disruptors lean toward controlling the pace of a fight, chaining specialized actions or interfering with monsters. Support profiles add defensive or team-oriented value while still participating in combat.

Those labels should not be read as a rigid MMO trinity until the live game shows exactly how team composition works at endgame. The official character descriptions support broad role differences, but they do not yet prove that a four-player hunt requires one Support or that a specific Adventurer is mandatory.

Which weapons are tied to the confirmed characters?

The current Monster Hunter Outlanders characters cover Great Sword, Dual Blades, Bow, Lance, Long Sword and Heavy Bowgun through their named profiles. Hammer is also part of the seven confirmed weapon types in the official mobile store description, even though the main character page does not currently pair its featured Adventurer with Hammer in the visible roster.

Several weapons already appear on more than one Adventurer. Dual Blades are used by Keres and Raya, Lance by Arkaya and Ouyang Varen, and Bow by Luka and Madelyn. Their role and skill descriptions differ, showing that weapon type alone does not tell you how two characters will play.

Is Raya free at launch?

Raya is tied to the official pre-registration milestones. The global milestone track displays Adventurer Raya as a reward at the 10 million registration level, with later milestones also showing additional contract and growth items. That makes Raya one of the Monster Hunter Outlanders characters players have a clear pre-launch acquisition path for.

The exact delivery process should be checked in the live build rather than guessed. Pre-registration rewards can arrive through mail, event pages or account eligibility systems, and the official site does not need a third-party code for the milestone to exist.

Are these all the launch characters?

The safest description is that these are the Monster Hunter Outlanders characters officially confirmed on the current website. A live-service game can add Adventurers, Buddies and weapon pairings after launch, and the existing site does not state that nine Adventurers are the permanent final roster.

That is why a tier list would be premature. The confirmed roster already gives players meaningful weapon and role choices, but real ranking needs launch stats, progression costs, encounter design and live balance. The Monster Hunter Outlanders characters are already distinct enough to compare by playstyle without pretending that comparison is a tier list. The Monster Hunter Outlanders characters can therefore be chosen around weapon feel and role preference before anyone has reliable launch rankings. For now, the Monster Hunter Outlanders characters guide is best used to choose which playstyle you want to learn first.
