Monster Hunter Outlanders Weapons List

The Monster Hunter Outlanders weapons roster contains eight launch types: Great Sword, Long Sword, Dual Blades, Hammer, Lance, Charge Blade, Heavy Bowgun and Bow. The Charge Blade was confirmed for release after early marketing only listed seven. The Fated Adventurer can test different weapon types, while named Adventurers have their own paired weapons and Hunting Arts.

Every weapon has a distinct rhythm, from slow, heavy strikes to fast combos, shielding and ranged attacks. Choose one that feels comfortable before trying to rank them by damage. This guide covers the complete eight-weapon lineup available with the October 29 launch.

Monster Hunter Outlanders weapons: all eight types

  • Great Sword: charged, powerful melee attacks; Pyro is a featured user
  • Long Sword: Spirit Gauge and deliberate timing; Midori uses it
  • Dual Blades: quick repeated attacks and Demon Gauge; used by Keres and Raya
  • Hammer: mobile charged blunt attacks
  • Lance: guard and thrust counters; Arkaya and Ouyang Varen use it
  • Charge Blade: Sword Mode and Axe Mode for mixed offence and defence
  • Heavy Bowgun: ranged shots and firing windows; Pepper uses it
  • Bow: mobile charged ranged attacks; Luka and Madelyn use it

The eight Monster Hunter Outlanders weapons include six melee types and two ranged choices. Charge Blade is an extra launch addition, not the same weapon as Switch Axe. These Monster Hunter Outlanders weapons have different resource and timing requirements. The developers plan more weapon classes later, but that does not make every weapon from Monster Hunter Wilds available on day one.

What is the best Monster Hunter Outlanders weapons choice for beginners?

A Bow or Heavy Bowgun is worth testing if you want space to watch a monster’s attacks. Lance is suitable if guarding feels more natural. Dual Blades favour fast movement and pressure, while Great Sword requires patient positioning to land heavier attacks. All eight are designed to be viable for hunts; the official launch materials do not declare one universally strongest option.

Long Sword relies on learning Spirit Gauge and counters; Hammer asks you to time charged blunt strikes; and Charge Blade is more involved because it switches modes. Start with one weapon whose timing you understand, practise evading and guarding, then branch into the others instead of copying an untested launch-day tier list.

Can you use different Monster Hunter Outlanders weapons on the Fated Adventurer?

Yes. Your custom Fated Adventurer is intended to use the full weapon roster, making it useful for experimenting. Named Adventurers work differently: each is presented with a particular weapon and signature ability kit. Keres and Raya both fight with Dual Blades, for example, but their attacks and skill effects aren’t interchangeable.

For more on individual hunters, see our character and companion index. That separates playable Adventurers from the Palico, Rutaco and Trillan Buddies who assist on hunts and exploration.

How do Monster Hunter Outlanders weapons work with controllers?

Monster Hunter Outlanders supports gamepads at launch, including hunting, exploration and quests among the supported functions. Touchscreen controls are also available. Select the control scheme in the game’s settings and learn the weapon’s current prompts; don’t copy an assumed PlayStation input sequence from another game.

The controller support and setup guide covers connecting a mobile-compatible controller and testing its response. Exact model compatibility and button remapping should be checked in the installed game rather than claimed for every Bluetooth pad.

Will the Monster Hunter Outlanders weapons list change?

The official mobile store confirms more weapon types will be introduced in future updates. Right now the available selection covers Great Sword, Long Sword, Dual Blades, Hammer, Lance, Charge Blade, Heavy Bowgun and Bow. Sword and Shield, Gunlance and Light Bowgun should not be presented as launch options without a fresh developer announcement.

If your first hunt feels difficult, try switching to a weapon with more guard options or range. Our weapon types comparison and beginner guide explain how to choose. The monster index covers classic species and Radiant variants.
