Rayman Legends Retold remake or remaster? Ubisoft calls it a reimagining of the 2013 platformer, not a simple visual remaster. Retold has rebuilt 3D visuals, a new story, voiced cinematics and a sixth realm alongside familiar levels.

Returning Rayman Legends levels still form part of the adventure, but the new game isn’t simply the original running at a higher resolution. It also adds four musical stages, dragon rides, fresh challenges and an expanded soundtrack. Here’s what changes and what returns from the original.

Rayman Legends Retold remake or remaster: What does Ubisoft call it?

The answer to Rayman Legends Retold remake or remaster is in Ubisoft’s description: reimagining. Ubisoft Montpellier and Ubisoft Milan have retained recognised platforming levels but rebuilt the presentation, expanded the story and added new playable areas.

Returning stages and bosses sit alongside a new sixth realm, four musical stages and dragon rides. Those changes go beyond a resolution upgrade, even though much of Rayman’s familiar platforming remains.

How does Retold look different from the original?

The visual overhaul is a big reason the Rayman Legends Retold remake or remaster question comes up. Retold uses fully reworked 3D environments, while keeping Rayman’s recognisable jumping, punching and gliding.

The story also gains a new villain spreading corruption through the Glade of Dreams. Rayman, Globox, Barbara, Grand Minimus and Murphy return, but the narrative includes new character encounters and fully voiced cinematics. Ubisoft says the game expands Rayman’s lore rather than only re-recording dialogue from the old release.

New levels, sixth realm and musical stages

The Rayman Legends Retold remake or remaster comparison also involves a sixth realm not found in the original. The adventure includes new dragon-riding sequences, Cave of Trials challenges and four additional musical levels where jumps and attacks follow the rhythm of the soundtrack.

Returning levels and bosses sit alongside these additions. Ubisoft has also announced an expanded score with contributions from Christophe Héral and Grant Kirkhope, combining familiar themes with new music. Musical stages remain one of the defining features of the Rayman Legends series.

The original Rayman Legends supported local multiplayer, and the Rayman Legends Retold remake or remaster version retains full-adventure four-player couch co-op. Kung Foot returns as Kung Foot Evo, with improved controls, power-ups and configurable rules. Those changes make its competitive side mode more than an untouched port.

Local co-op, Kung Foot Evo and accessibility

Ubisoft has also detailed newer accessibility controls: remapping, health modifiers, optional Fairy Blessing assistance, high-contrast visuals, highlights and alternative input settings. These features can make the returning platforming challenges easier to approach without removing the timing-based design for everyone.

The Standard Edition includes a separate game, Rayman Origins: Enhanced Edition. Ubisoft says that version has 4K visuals at 60 FPS, modern quality-of-life changes and new collectibles. It’s not another realm inside Legends Retold.

Is Rayman Origins Enhanced Edition included?

The £34.99 Standard Edition already includes both Rayman Legends Retold and Origins Enhanced Edition, while the £44.99 Deluxe Edition adds the Retro Pack costumes and Art Gallery. Preorders get two Hoodlum Havoc costumes. On PS5, the Astro Bot costume is a separate free first-visit reward at Victor Velour’s shop.

For Rayman Legends Retold remake or remaster, Ubisoft’s wording is the most accurate: a reimagining. The launch guide covers pricing and platforms, while our musical-level guide explains the four new rhythm stages.
