Witchbrook Multiplayer supports online co-op for up to four players, according to Chucklefish. You can explore Mossport with up to three friends or play solo. Online co-op is confirmed, not just a planned stretch goal.
Chucklefish has already explained some surprisingly specific things about shared play, including how your cottages work and what happens when friends want to date the same character. Here’s everything confirmed about the player limit, online requirements, romance and what still needs testing at launch.
Witchbrook Multiplayer: How many players can join?

Witchbrook Multiplayer is listed as 1 to 4 players online. Chucklefish confirms that three friends can join you. Nintendo lists 1 player on one system and 1–4 online, while PlayStation lists one player offline and up to four online.
| Play type | Confirmed support |
|---|---|
| Single-player | Yes, one player |
| Online multiplayer | Yes, up to 4 players total |
| Local split-screen/couch co-op | Not announced |
| Crossplay between PC and consoles | Not confirmed |
| Online access on PS5 | PS Plus required for online play |
| Online access on Switch / Switch 2 | Nintendo Switch Online required for online play |
The Witchbrook Multiplayer announcement describes online co-op, not split-screen play with four controllers on one TV. Nintendo’s store lists single-system play as one player. Until Chucklefish gives a separate local co-op announcement, assume each player needs their own compatible copy and system for an online session.
What can you do together in Witchbrook co-op?
The game centres on Witchbrook College and the seaside town of Mossport. Chucklefish advertises magical classes, collecting knowledge, fishing, gardening, businesses, festivals and time with covenmates. Its official site describes experiencing this world alongside friends, but has not itemised every quest or activity as shared multiplayer content.
Each friend can decorate their own cottage and garden. Multiplayer reveals extra land with a watermill cottage, a sunroom cottage overlooking the brook and a cliffside cottage. These guest homes are smaller than the host’s.
In Witchbrook Multiplayer, it is not yet confirmed whether all students share an academic grade, whether story decisions affect everybody or whether visitors retain items from a friend’s world. Avoid relying on assumptions from other farming or life-sim games until the co-op systems can be tested.
Can you date characters in Witchbrook Multiplayer?
Yes. Chucklefish’s September 2026 dating development blog says each multiplayer participant can date a covenmate. That introduces an interesting complication if two real players pursue the same NPC.
Two friends can pursue the same covenmate until one goes steady with them. Chucklefish specifically describes that possibility in its dating update. Relationship mechanics include giving gifts, spending time together, sending romantic cards and going on dates around Mossport.
That information confirms romance is part of Witchbrook Multiplayer rather than a single-player-only feature. It doesn’t confirm that one human player can date another human player’s character, or that relationships transfer between different multiplayer hosts.
Does Witchbrook have crossplay or cross-progression?
No cross-platform multiplayer announcement has been made yet. Witchbrook is releasing on PC, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S on January 28, 2027, but sharing a launch date does not mean the online pools are connected.
The same uncertainty applies to cross-progression and cross-save. Chucklefish hasn’t said you can move a character or cottage between Steam, PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo. Our Witchbrook crossplay guide separates each of those features.
Do you need PS Plus or Nintendo Switch Online?
The PlayStation Store lists a PS Plus requirement for online play and up to four online players. Nintendo’s listings state that a Nintendo Switch Online membership is needed to access online features. These subscription requirements are for their respective console services; a PC subscription requirement hasn’t been announced.
For Witchbrook Multiplayer on Xbox, the appropriate online multiplayer subscription or Game Pass entitlement may depend on the service and account. Xbox Game Pass availability on day one is confirmed, but that doesn’t establish that every membership tier includes all online benefits.
Can you play Witchbrook solo without missing the story?
You don’t need to find a group to play. College lessons, exams, covenmate friendships and cottage decorating are also part of the advertised solo game.
The Witchbrook Multiplayer player limit and some social and housing systems are confirmed ahead of launch, but the invite menu, join codes, hosting controls and save-transfer behaviour remain unshown. A step-by-step invite walkthrough will be worth writing after the game releases, when the actual interface can be checked.
Witchbrook launches January 28, 2027. If you’re planning to play together, the safest confirmed plan is up to four people online on supported platforms, with the required console online membership where applicable. Don’t buy different versions solely on the assumption that crossplay will be available.
