Witchbrook Romance includes 11 dateable covenmates, a system of romantic cards, gifts and outings, and relationships that can develop into going steady. Chucklefish revealed these features in its September 2026 Dating on Campus development blog, well before the game’s January 28, 2027 launch.
You can complete a covenmate’s personal storyline as a friend, without ever dating them. For romance, the process is more specific: get to know someone, buy a card, plan two activities and decide whether to go steady.
Witchbrook Romance: How many characters can you date?

Chucklefish confirms 11 romanceable covenmates. Seven have been revealed by name: Hana Satō, Eli Ivers, Cormac Fitzroy, Pip Marin, Evadne Gladwin, Leif Blomgren and Kiara Chandra. Four more romance candidates remain unknown.
Our Witchbrook covenmates guide lists their revealed birthdays, home addresses and personalities. The Witchbrook Romance system treats characters as individuals, so different people may become ready to date at different points in their storylines.
How to start dating in Witchbrook
Mossport’s post office sells cards used to express romantic interest. The available range includes cards for asking somebody out, going steady and breaking up, alongside a rotating selection of seasonal designs. You can use those cards when your relationship has reached an appropriate stage.
Different characters become ready to date at different points in their stories. A Witchbrook Romance starts with talking, spending time together and exchanging gifts. Once the character is ready, you can buy a dating card from the Mossport post office. Chucklefish hasn’t announced a single heart threshold that applies to everybody.
When you meet somebody during their daily routine, their dialogue can reflect the time, weather, location and current events in their life. Relationships also unlock story sequences with their own animated scenes, rather than being just a number rising on a menu.
How do Witchbrook dates and activities work?
Once you’re arranging an outing, Chucklefish says you select two activities for the date. You can explore Mossport between those stops and listen to the character react to things along your route.
There are more than 200 date-chatter spots, where your companion comments on nearby places or objects. They might respond to a jewellery shop, the bridge near the college or an unexpected point of interest along the beach.
A Witchbrook Romance date can go well or badly. Those comments offer hints about what somebody enjoys, so choosing the wrong activity isn’t necessarily harmless. Chucklefish says the final reaction becomes clear when you bring your date home.
Chucklefish hasn’t revealed every character’s favourite activities. The useful clue is their date chatter: listen to what they say during the walk, then choose your two activities accordingly. The reaction when you take them home tells you how the date went.
What does going steady mean in Witchbrook?
Chucklefish says players can send a special going steady card after a relationship develops. This is a more committed stage than a first invitation and opens new relationship privileges, including sleepovers.
For Witchbrook Romance, it’s important not to confuse an ordinary dating card with the later going-steady card. The post office also sells breakup cards, indicating relationships can change after commitment, although the full consequences of ending a relationship have not been explained.
Can you become friends without dating?
Yes. Chucklefish explicitly says friendship can lead through a covenmate’s personal story even if you never start a romantic relationship. So players who don’t want to date anyone can still get to know their classmates and see their story arcs.
Gift-giving and conversations can build relationships, but the developer hasn’t released complete favourite-gift lists or each character’s full schedule. Those are the detailed Witchbrook Romance topics best added after launch rather than invented from promotional footage.
How does romance work in Witchbrook multiplayer?
Each online player can date a covenmate, according to Chucklefish’s dating blog. Two human players can even pursue the same NPC before one goes steady, which may create competition over that relationship. The game supports up to four online players.
That doesn’t establish player-to-player romantic relationships, cross-platform dating sessions or whether relationship choices are portable between hosts. For co-op player limits and personal cottages, see our Witchbrook multiplayer guide.
The Witchbrook Romance system already has unusually detailed official information ahead of release: 11 candidates, social routines, two-activity dates, more than 200 chatter points, different readiness to date, and going-steady cards. Exact gifts, romance thresholds and complete outcomes will need direct gameplay confirmation after January 28.
