Black Flag Resynced Update 1.0.8 launched on October 27, 2026, adding New Game+, Nightmare Mode, hidden community chests, returning takedown animations and new rewards. Ubisoft calls this the final major content update, but says smaller quality-of-life patches will continue.
The update also fixes specific problems with offline play, tavern board games, fast travel and quests that could block progress. New Game+ is the biggest addition if you’ve already finished Edward’s story, while Nightmare gives existing saves a tougher difficulty option. Here’s what Ubisoft changed.
Black Flag Resynced Update 1.0.8 Release Time and Download Sizes

Black Flag Resynced Update 1.0.8 went live at 14:00 UTC on October 27, which was 2 PM GMT in the UK. The patch is available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. File sizes depend on the platform and launcher.
| Platform | Official patch size |
|---|---|
| Xbox Series X|S | 15.5 GB |
| PlayStation 5 | 4.5 GB |
| PC | 4.3 GB |
| Steam | 2.1 GB |
Black Flag Resynced Update 1.0.8 is the final major content release, but Ubisoft plans further quality-of-life patches. Steam players should note the separate 2.1 GB download, compared with the 4.3 GB PC version listed for other launchers.
New Game+ in Black Flag Resynced Update 1.0.8
New Game+ restarts Edward’s campaign while preserving his tools, weapons, upgrades, trinkets, money, crafting materials, outfits, trade goods and store purchases. It also carries over Jackdaw upgrades, unlocked officer abilities, pets, Kenway Fleet ships, hideout upgrades, art and acquired or completed treasure maps.
The story, active quests, quest items, map discovery and captured forts reset. Officers must be recruited again, even though their abilities stay unlocked, and the Jackdaw and Hideout become available through story progression despite retaining upgrades. Our New Game+ guide explains what stays and what resets.
Black Flag Resynced Update 1.0.8 supports five additional New Game+ cycles. Each repeat increases the difficulty with more Elite Soldiers and maximum-rank ships. It also adds Escudos, an exclusive currency earned from challenges, chests opened on earlier runs or by exchanging Reales at General Stores. Items that already cost Reales still cost the same amount.
Nightmare Mode Difficulty Changes
Black Flag Resynced Update 1.0.8 introduces Nightmare as a new option for ground combat, stealth, naval combat and activities. You can adjust those four areas separately, including while playing an ordinary campaign. It isn’t necessary to start New Game+ to use Nightmare.
- Ground combat: enemies deal 1.8 times normal damage, parry windows shrink, the white attack-warning glint disappears and ranged enemies fire more often.
- Instant death: the usual one-shot protection is disabled, making gunfire and explosives capable of killing Edward outright.
- Stealth: detection is faster, guard investigations last longer and guards can hear movement faster than a walk. Staying hidden above a guard now requires six metres of height instead of four.
- Naval: damage dealt by ships increases.
- Activities: sharks and harpooned wildlife hit harder, jellyfish and sea urchins do double damage and underwater oxygen runs down faster.
The one-hit death change is particularly severe. You can still turn down the individual category causing trouble without losing your preferred difficulty in the others.
Hidden Community Chests and New Rewards

Ubisoft confirms six new hidden community chests in Black Flag Resynced Update 1.0.8. Some contain rewards requested by the community, but Ubisoft intentionally provided no easy location hints. You’ll need to explore to find them rather than following an official list of six map markers.
The patch also adds outfits, trinkets, sails, pet appearances and crew customisation. Some are tied to New Game+ progression, while others require exploration, activities or hidden challenges. Not every cosmetic necessarily comes from the Escudos shop.
Returning Takedown Animations
Black Flag Resynced Update 1.0.8 restores takedowns using the hidden blade, unarmed attacks, a single sword and the gunblade. Ubisoft also added microkill and double-takedown variations. They appear randomly during gameplay, so there’s no separate button to select a particular animation.
