Black Flag Resynced Officers are the five named crew members you recruit for the Jackdaw. Two Quartermasters join automatically through the story. Lucy Baldwin, The Padre and Tobias ‘Deadman’ Smith come from optional questlines and unlock the ship’s strongest naval abilities. All five count towards the All Hands on Deck trophy.
You can begin recruiting specialists after This Old Cove in Sequence 4, but Deadman requires much later story progress and both earlier recruits. Here is exactly where to start the Black Flag Resynced Officers quests and what each person adds to the ship.

Adéwalé: The First Quartermaster
Adéwalé joins as your first Quartermaster during This Tyro Captain in Sequence 3. It happens through the main story without a separate map objective. He does not add an active naval ability, and Anne Bonny eventually replaces him in that position.
Black Flag Resynced Officers: Lucy Baldwin
After This Old Cove in Sequence 4, start A Proper Shipwright at Salt Key Bank around 446, 620. Then do The One With the Gun at Great Inagua around 818, 445. Lucy joins during that second quest; you do not need to finish her whole questline to recruit her.
Lucy’s Perfect Brace sharply reduces damage when you brace at the moment a cannon volley lands. This is particularly valuable against Legendary Ships and during long naval fights. If The One With the Gun was previously stuck on a missing plantain, Title Update 1.0.8 includes a fix for an overlapping-quest version of that issue.
Black Flag Resynced Officers: How to Get The Padre
The Padre, Abel Galvão, can be recruited after This Old Cove. Begin A Second Chance at Caracol, around 918, 340. His next mission is Loyalty, Discipline, and Courage at Cumberland Bay, around 648, 348. Finish it to add him to the Jackdaw.
Padre helps in boarding battles and unlocks Ram Dash, a stronger ship charge. On PlayStation the default input is L1+R1; on Xbox it is LB+RB. Later Padre missions are optional for initial recruitment.
Anne Bonny: The Second Quartermaster
Anne takes the Quartermaster role automatically at the start of Sequence 12 during A Governor No Longer. There is no optional recruitment quest to hunt down. Her arrival also counts towards All Hands on Deck, even though Adéwalé has already served as Quartermaster.
Black Flag Resynced Officers: Recruiting Tobias ‘Deadman’ Smith
The last of the Black Flag Resynced Officers, Tobias ‘Deadman’ Smith, begins his quests after Everything Is Permitted in Sequence 11. Start A World Without Gold: That Bastard Maynard at Great Inagua (818, 446), then complete Not Even a Real Captain in Kingston (616, 154) and What the Devil! near Cat Island (728, 705).
Next comes It’s a Start at Great Inagua, around 825, 444. This fourth quest requires Lucy and Padre to have joined already. Completing it recruits Deadman, whose Extra Salvo fires an additional volley after the Jackdaw’s broadside. If the quest isn’t showing, finish the two earlier officer recruitment chains first.
Do Black Flag Resynced Officers Carry Into New Game Plus?
The October 27 update keeps the abilities you’ve unlocked, but the officers themselves aren’t aboard at the start of a new run. You must replay their recruitment quests or story milestones even though their naval abilities remain available.
All Hands on Deck: Do You Need All Five Officers?
The trophy requires Adéwalé, Lucy, Padre, Anne and Deadman. You can recruit the optional members after the story, so nothing is permanently missed. If it doesn’t unlock, check Deadman’s fourth quest and whether Lucy and Padre fully joined instead of simply appearing as active objectives.
If you’re preparing for the toughest naval fights, get Lucy’s Perfect Brace first, followed by Padre’s Ram Dash. Deadman’s extra broadside is worth returning for once his Sequence 11 questline opens. You can recruit all three after the story, so don’t worry if you’ve already finished the main campaign.
