Fortnite Nitemare Island Kado’s Curse went live in Reload on October 8, 2026, bringing Kado Thorne to Terror Turrets, new health-restoring Siphon weapons and a chance to trigger The Hunt. The island itself has been refreshed with new landmarks, while Ranked and Map Mastery have received entirely new rewards.

There’s a lot more here than a Halloween reskin. Epic has confirmed where to find Kado, how The Hunt assigns its targets and which weapons have entered the Nitemare Island loot pool. The map also shares Reload with other islands, so knowing when and where these features appear will save you a wasted match.

When did Fortnite Nitemare Island Kado’s Curse release?

The updated map launched on Thursday, October 8 as part of a new Reload season. Nitemare Island joined Stranger Things and Surf City in the Ranked and Unranked rotation. Stranger Things was temporarily replaced with Oasis because of a technical issue, but Epic has since confirmed its return.

The next map change is already dated. Squid Grounds will replace Surf City in the rotation, with an exclusive featured weekend from October 15 to 19. Until then, check the selected island when you queue: a Stranger Things match won’t contain Kado’s location or his island-specific weapon pool.

Epic says Nitemare Island has altered points of interest and fresh landmarks, although it hasn’t provided a full current list of every chest and building. Older versions of the map are still useful for orientation, but they shouldn’t be trusted for exact October routes. The biggest new gameplay feature is a modifier called The Hunt.

The update also replaces several Springfield-era Morphite weapons, brings back familiar Reload loot and adds Kado’s Siphon variants. You can enjoy the island in Ranked or Unranked, and you don’t need a separate Creative map code.

Where to find Kado Thorne in Fortnite Nitemare Island Kado’s Curse

Kado Thorne is inside Terror Turrets. Epic confirms you can interact with him there and learn more about his arrival. Make sure your match is on Nitemare Island, then head for Terror Turrets after collecting a weapon and some shields. Other squads may land there for the same reason.

You don’t need to speak to Kado to activate The Hunt, and the official announcement doesn’t describe a guaranteed boss weapon drop from meeting him. This is a character interaction, not a reason to invent a boss fight or an undisclosed vault route.

How Fortnite Nitemare Island Kado’s Curse The Hunt modifier works

The Hunt has a chance to activate when you drop into Nitemare Island. If it does, you’ll receive a Mark after landing from the Battle Bus. The map shows that opponent’s general vicinity, rather than pinning down their exact position.

Eliminating a Mark grants a reward chosen by Kado. A new Mark is assigned at the start of each Storm Circle, so you’ll get another target as the game develops. It’s worth chasing one if your squad is nearby, but a faraway Mark isn’t worth losing your position or abandoning teammates.

All Siphon guns in Fortnite Nitemare Island Kado’s Curse

Epic has confirmed exactly three new Kado Siphon weapons. They restore health when you deal damage, which can help during successive Reload fights. The effect isn’t passive regeneration, and Epic hasn’t given an exact healing amount per hit or guaranteed spawn location.

Weapon Type
Kado’s Siphon Deadeye Assault Rifle Assault Rifle
Kado’s Siphon Gatekeeper Shotgun Shotgun
Kado’s Siphon Monarch Pistol Pistol

Look for these in the Nitemare Island loot pool. Regular Gatekeeper Shotguns and Monarch Pistols are also unvaulted elsewhere, so check the full weapon name before assuming your gun has Siphon. The Hunt doesn’t guarantee you one of these weapons as a reward.

Other loot in Fortnite Nitemare Island Kado’s Curse

The island-specific selection includes the Cube Splitter SMG, Cube Rifle, Vampiric Blade, Sideways Rifle, Sideways Minigun, Sideways Scythe, Woodstake Shotgun, Pumpkin Launcher, Witch Broom, Void Oni Mask, Myst Form and Last Call. Epic has also restored Reload-wide healing items including Shield Kegs, Slap Juice, Slap Berries, Slap Splash and Slapperoni Pizza.

The Nemesis Assault Rifle, Combat Rifle, Tactical Pistol, Monarch Pistol, Gatekeeper Shotgun, Twin Hammer Shotgun, Morphite Havoc Shotgun and Deadeye DMR are unvaulted. Conversely, the Morphite Assault Rifle, Morphite Heavy Assault Rifle, Morphite Hammer Assault Rifle, MK-7, O.X.R. Rifle, Morphite Handcannon, Morphite Flex SMG, Ranger Shotgun, Morphite Sentinel Shotgun and Morphite Thunder Shotgun are vaulted.

Fortnite Nitemare Island Kado’s Curse Ranked rewards

The new season fully reset Reload Ranked and added Elite Kado Thorne-themed cosmetic rewards. Epic confirms a special Kado-themed Unreal Pickaxe for players who reach Unreal. Ranked Cups provide an additional way to earn the Elite Kado Thorne Outfit early through tournament placements, with individual requirements listed in the Compete tab.

Map Mastery is separate from those Ranked prizes. It has fresh seasonal cosmetics, including the Driver of Darkness Pickaxe for completing 12 Reload map quests. Winning a match in Ranked or Unranked Reload also awards the Kado Thorne Victory Umbrella. You don’t need to reach Unreal to earn either of those non-Ranked-progression rewards.

Why Fortnite Nitemare Island Kado’s Curse isn’t showing

Make sure you’re queuing for Reload, then check which map the game selected. Nitemare Island is one option in a rotation, not the only island available. If you reach Nitemare Island but don’t get a Mark, remember that The Hunt is chance-based. A missing Siphon weapon also isn’t proof of a bug, since Epic hasn’t guaranteed one in every chest.

If you want the new rewards, use the Quests tab for Map Mastery and the Ranked panel for rank-based cosmetics. They are separate systems, and winning a match is its own route to the Victory Umbrella.
