Fortnite Reload Nitemare Island returned on February 13, 2026 and launched again on October 8 with Kado’s Curse. October’s version adds The Hunt, Kado Thorne and Siphon weapons, so it’s more than the old island coming back.
The Fortnite Reload Nitemare Island map is in rotation now with Squid Grounds and Stranger Things. Both Ranked and Unranked use the same three islands after October 19. Here’s what’s changed since February and how to find the current rewards.

Fortnite Reload Nitemare Island relaunched on October 8 with Kado’s Curse. The refreshed island has new POI details, gameplay and seasonal weapons. It currently shares both Reload playlists with Squid Grounds and Stranger Things.
The February 13 return documented on this page remains useful historical context. That version brought the horror-themed Reload island back into rotation during the Love and Legends period, with familiar locations such as Spooky Suburbs, Retail Ruin, Punishment Patch, Leech Lake, Revenge Reels, Creepy Cabins, Haunted Hamlet, Gravey Gates, Estranged Estate and Terror Turrets. Those names explain the map players remember, but they are not a promise that every October POI is unchanged.
Reload itself still keeps the fast structure that made Fortnite Reload Nitemare Island popular. Smaller maps, frequent engagements and reboot-style respawns create a much quicker rhythm than standard Battle Royale. The map theme works well with that format because dense horror locations push squads into close fights rather than long rotations across a full-size island.
The October difference is Kado Thorne. He’s inside Terror Turrets, where players can speak to him. Fortnite Reload Nitemare Island now has the Hunt modifier, which can assign you an opponent to track for rewards.
What the February Nitemare Island return looked like
Weapon information needs the same treatment. The February article described the standard Reload pool available at that time. October’s update introduces a new seasonal context and Siphon loot, so an eight-month-old weapon summary cannot be treated as the current table. Players should check the live October guide after the map opens rather than planning a drop around a February loadout.
The refreshed island also arrives during Fortnitemares 2026, which means Fortnite Reload Nitemare Island now connects naturally to a much larger Halloween cluster. Battle Royale has Nightmare Neighborhood, Freaky Fields, Freddy Krueger and FNAF animatronics, while Horde Rush has its own seasonal objectives. Reload is one branch of that event rather than the entire Fortnitemares experience.
If you are returning specifically because you remember the February map, the old POI names are still useful orientation. They can help you recognise the island’s identity and compare how Kado’s Curse has changed it. The mistake would be assuming an old screenshot proves a current chest route, boss spawn or weapon pool. Epic explicitly describes the October island as updated.
Kado’s Curse refreshed Terror Turrets, Retail Ruin and Spooky Suburbs. Some landmarks still look familiar, but the themed details, weapon availability and objectives have changed since February.

What changed with Kado’s Curse in October?
Fortnite Reload Nitemare Island is live again after the October 15–19 Squid Grounds takeover, when that island temporarily dominated the playlist. You can now land on Nitemare Island in Ranked or Unranked when it comes up in rotation.
The Hunt can activate in selected Nitemare Island matches. Kado assigns an enemy Mark to track, and an elimination rewards you with an item. A new target may be assigned as the Storm progresses.
Fortnite Reload Nitemare Island also offers Kado’s Siphon Deadeye Assault Rifle, Gatekeeper Shotgun and Monarch Pistol. They restore health as you deal damage, and the Gatekeeper remains available here despite being vaulted from the general Reload pool.
The October map changes the way squads play: Kado’s Siphon guns can restore health during fights, while The Hunt’s Mark rewards give players an extra reason to engage opponents.
Current map rotation and weapons
After the October 19 takeover ended, both Ranked and Unranked returned to a three-island selection: Nitemare Island, Squid Grounds and Stranger Things. Surf City is not in Epic’s announced current rotation.
The Reload reboot updates also affect Nitemare Island. Chests reduce the countdown by two seconds, Rare Chests by four, and every 30 damage dealt removes another second.
Epic hasn’t listed a guaranteed Hunt activation percentage. A creator report suggests the modifier is more common after October 21, but this is not a guarantee of a Hunt on every Nitemare Island match.
February’s return and October’s Kado takeover have different loot and mechanics. Use the current game map rather than following an eight-month-old chest route.
