Tenjutsu release date is set for 2027 on Nintendo Switch 2. Nintendo confirmed the year and platform in its October Indie World presentation. The martial-arts action roguelike is developed by Deepnight Games and published by Devolver Digital, but a specific day and month have not been announced.
Created by Sébastien Benard, known for his work on Dead Cells, Tenjutsu follows a renegade yakuza fighter trying to break the hold of four criminal syndicates over Secret Garden City. The order you choose to confront the factions has a direct effect on how difficult later battles become.
Tenjutsu release date and confirmed platforms

Nintendo names 2027 for the Switch 2 version. Devolver also advertises a PC edition, so this is not an announcement that the game only exists on Nintendo hardware. The original Nintendo Switch was not named in the October showcase, and its release should not be assumed.
An exact UK launch day, eShop price and preorder opening were not announced. Devolver’s game page is the best place to follow the launch, with PC and Switch 2 both named as platforms.
How Tenjutsu’s four syndicates work
Four crime syndicates control Secret Garden City. Devolver confirms that you can select which faction to attack first, rather than tackling them in a fixed order. That decision has consequences: groups left standing longer can reinforce their defences, making the later encounters tougher.
The choice adds a tactical layer to each run. You might want to challenge an opponent early before it grows stronger, or leave it until you have better equipment. Choosing which of the four syndicates to attack first is a decision about risk. Factions left standing get stronger while you make progress elsewhere.
Tenjutsu release date: gameplay and combat
Combat is built around fast melee attacks, martial arts and a variety of weapons. The top-down perspective lets players read crowded encounters while fighting through Secret Garden City. Devolver calls the game a combat roguelike, with precise movement and decisions about upgrades forming part of the challenge.
This is its own game, not a sequel to Dead Cells. Benard’s design history explains the connection, but the setting, criminal groups and combat style belong to Tenjutsu. The October announcement is a first look at its Nintendo release, not a comprehensive guide to every weapon or control.

Can the city change as you progress?
Yes. Devolver says Secret Garden City begins to recover as syndicates fall. Shops and restaurants reopen, and shortcuts become available for future runs. This gives the city a sense of progression beyond the individual fight you’re currently attempting.
As shops reopen and shortcuts appear, Secret Garden City changes around your progress. That makes beating a syndicate feel different from simply finishing a run.
Is Tenjutsu coming to Switch 1 or with multiplayer?
The Indie World platform announcement is for Switch 2, not the original console. Devolver’s Steam listing also describes a single-player action game. Nothing in the Nintendo reveal establishes online co-op, GameShare, competitive multiplayer or crossplay.
If you follow the game on PC and Switch 2, the same developer and publisher are involved, but the final feature list and platform-specific controls still need to match their official product pages. Don’t mistake a Steam wishlist page for a Nintendo eShop purchase confirmation.
Tenjutsu release date: what happens next?
Watch Devolver Digital and Nintendo for the finished release date and regional price. The game already has a clear identity: a fighter working through four syndicates, wielding martial arts and weapons while the order of each takedown changes the challenges ahead.
The Tenjutsu release date remains 2027 on Nintendo Switch 2. In the meantime, our Indie World announcements guide collects the other games and launch windows revealed at the same presentation.
