Pokémon Winds and Waves starters are Browt, Pombon and Gecqua, the new Grass-, Fire- and Water-type partners revealed for the 2027 Nintendo Switch 2 games. All three were introduced during Pokémon Presents on February 27, 2026.
The trio has already won over fans with its different personalities, but the Pokémon Winds and Waves starters haven’t had their evolutions or full battle details revealed. So which one should you choose? Here’s a closer look at what Pokémon actually confirms.
Browt: Grass-type Pokémon Winds and Waves starter
Browt is a lively little chick that uses the leaves on its brow to photosynthesise. It’s called the Bean Chick Pokémon and, according to its official profile, it’s energetic but occasionally clumsy.
Type: Grass. Category: Bean Chick Pokémon. Height: 0.3 m. Weight: 3.5 kg. Ability: Overgrow.
Overgrow increases the power of Grass-type moves when Browt’s HP falls low. That’s confirmed, but its actual base stats and moves aren’t. Nothing shown establishes whether Browt will become a fast attacker or a defensive Pokémon, and its evolved forms remain a mystery.
Pombon: Fire-type starter Pokémon
Pombon is the friendly Fire-type puppy. The faint glow beneath its throat comes from a heat-producing organ inside its lungs. Pokémon describes Pombon as guileless and warm-hearted, rather than fierce or aggressive.
Type: Fire. Category: Puppy Pokémon. Height: 0.4 m. Weight: 6.7 kg. Ability: Blaze.
Blaze strengthens Fire-type moves when Pombon’s HP is low. But that Ability doesn’t establish what kind of fighter it’ll be. The Pokémon Winds and Waves starters don’t have revealed final evolutions, and there’s no confirmation that Pombon will remain on four legs or gain another type.
Gecqua: Water-type starter Pokémon
Gecqua is the intelligent Water Gecko Pokémon. The official description says it launches springy balls of water from its tail and moves shrewdly while putting on airs. It has an unmistakably confident personality.
Type: Water. Category: Water Gecko Pokémon. Height: 0.3 m. Weight: 4.3 kg. Ability: Torrent.
Torrent boosts Water-type attacks when HP falls low. Gecqua might look suited to the ocean setting, but its confirmed description doesn’t grant it a swimming, diving or other exploration ability. Pokémon has yet to reveal its battle stats, complete moveset or evolved forms.
Pokémon Winds and Waves starters: which is best?
There isn’t a verified best starter yet. Grass, Fire and Water have the familiar Pokémon type relationships, but no official details have established the order of major battles, the opponents you’ll face or the complete attacks available to each starter.
Browt has an energetic personality, Pombon is friendly and Gecqua is clever. If you’re already making a choice, go with the partner you like rather than a ranking built around statistics Pokémon hasn’t published.
The Pokémon Winds and Waves starters are also presented as a shared choice for both versions. Nothing in the announcement suggests that one of these first partners will be exclusive to Winds or Waves.
Have the Pokémon Winds and Waves starter evolutions been revealed?
No. Pokémon hasn’t unveiled any evolved form of Browt, Pombon or Gecqua. Their evolution levels, eventual types, final stats, hidden Abilities and possible signature moves are still unannounced.
Fan artwork can be fun to browse, but it doesn’t establish how these Pokémon will grow. Any claims about specific final forms or battle roles need an official source before they belong in a guide.

When will the Pokémon Winds and Waves starters be available?
Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves launch worldwide in 2027 exclusively on Nintendo Switch 2. The exact release day hasn’t been announced, and the reveal didn’t show the moment players will make their first-partner choice.
For now, the Pokémon Winds and Waves starters are Browt, Pombon and Gecqua, with the Abilities Overgrow, Blaze and Torrent. The release-date guide covers launch timing, while the official Pokémon website has their original profiles.
