Pokémon GO Twilight Trails Choose Your Path: Explore, Catch or Battle Explained

Pokémon GO Twilight Trails Choose Your Path

Pokémon GO Twilight Trails Choose Your Path is now live, and the choice is more complicated than the pre-event announcement suggested. Some Trainers receive a week-long Explore, Catch or Battle choice, while other accounts receive a daily version with four options: Explore, Catch Stardust, Catch Candy or Battle.

The live Pokémon GO Twilight Trails Choose Your Path bonuses are strong enough that the right branch depends on what you plan to do between September 23 and September 28. Explore is built around PokéStop XP, Catch focuses on Candy or Stardust, and Battle speeds up Team GO Rocket Radar farming.

Pokémon GO Twilight Trails Choose Your Path: why you may see different choices

The biggest change to Pokémon GO Twilight Trails Choose Your Path is the A/B test. Pokémon GO officially warned that Trainers may receive different research opportunities, and the live event confirms two versions. A three-choice screen means you have the week-long version. A four-choice screen means you can select a new bonus each day.

VersionAvailable pathsChoice frequency
WeeklyExplore, Catch Candy, BattleChoose once for the event
DailyExplore, Catch Stardust, Catch Candy, BattleChoose again each day

This is not a missing-path bug. If your friend has Catch Stardust and you do not, the difference comes from the research version assigned to the account. Our why is my Twilight Trails Research different guide explains the split in more detail.

Explore path: 5× XP for spinning PokéStops

Choose Explore in Pokémon GO Twilight Trails Choose Your Path if you will spend plenty of time moving through a PokéStop-dense area and want Trainer XP. Both research versions give 5× XP for spinning PokéStops, so the bonus itself is consistent even though the task list changes.

The weekly Explore tasks include hatching four Eggs, travelling 2 km, spinning 10 PokéStops or Gyms and following a Route. The daily version is lighter: explore 1 km, spin 10 PokéStops or Gyms and complete a Route. If Routes are awkward where you live, that requirement is the main downside. Our Pokémon GO Routes guide can help if you need to find or follow one.

Catch Candy path: 2× Candy for catches

The Catch Candy option in Pokémon GO Twilight Trails Choose Your Path is the easiest general-purpose pick if you are actively catching Pokémon you still need Candy for. The bonus doubles Candy from catches, while the tasks are straightforward catching, Berry and throwing objectives.

Weekly players need to catch 50 Pokémon, use 15 Berries, make 10 Great Throws and make 10 Nice Curveball Throws. Daily players have a shorter set of 20 catches, 10 Berries and 10 transfers. Catch Candy is especially useful when the current spawn pool contains Pokémon you intend to evolve or power up, because the bonus works passively while you play.

Catch Stardust path: daily version only

Catch Stardust is the extra fourth option in the daily Pokémon GO Twilight Trails Choose Your Path version. It gives 2× Stardust for catching Pokémon and asks for 20 Curveball Throws, 10 Great Curveball Throws and three Excellent Throws.

If your main goal is building a Stardust reserve and you expect to catch heavily, this is one of the most immediately useful bonuses in the daily test. Weekly accounts do not get Catch Stardust as a selectable branch, so there is no setting you can toggle to make it appear.

Battle path: faster Rocket Radars

The Battle branch in Pokémon GO Twilight Trails Choose Your Path gives extra Mysterious Components when you defeat Team GO Rocket Grunts. That reduces the number of Grunt wins needed to build Rocket Radars and makes the path useful for anyone hunting Leaders or Shadow Pokémon.

The weekly version asks for 10 supereffective Charged Attacks, five Grunt wins, one Team GO Rocket Leader win and 10 power-ups. The daily version only needs one Grunt win, five power-ups and three supereffective Charged Attacks. See our Rocket Radar Pokémon GO guide if you want to turn the bonus into more Leader encounters efficiently.

Which Twilight Trails path should you choose?

For Pokémon GO Twilight Trails Choose Your Path, the cleanest answer is to match the bonus to what you will actually do. Pick Explore for PokéStop XP, Catch Candy when a useful species is worth farming, Catch Stardust if that daily-only choice appears and you will catch heavily, or Battle if Rocket Radars and Leader encounters are your priority.

Pokémon GO Twilight Trails Choose Your Path works differently for daily accounts because you can change direction the next day. A Trainer could take Battle while actively farming Grunts, switch to Catch Stardust during a heavy catching session, then use Explore on a day spent in a city centre. The weekly version is less flexible, so read the three bonuses before confirming the one choice you will keep.
