The NBA 2K25 Shutdown begins on October 30, 2026, when the game leaves digital sale. Online services close on December 31, and MyCAREER, MyTEAM and online multiplayer become unavailable from January 1, 2027. If you already own NBA 2K25, you can still redownload it and play the supported offline modes.

That means you can keep playing basketball, but not every part of the game survives. Even the single-player activities inside MyCAREER and MyTEAM are affected. Here’s exactly what closes, what remains playable and what to do if you still have an online career or a card collection you want to use.

NBA 2K25 Shutdown: delisting date and server end date

The first deadline is Friday, October 30, 2026, when NBA 2K25 is removed from digital sale. If it’s already in your library, you can continue playing it. The second deadline is Thursday, December 31, when 2K retires its online services. Delisting the game does not turn its servers off two months early.

Online modes become unavailable from Friday, January 1, 2027. 2K hasn’t announced an exact server shutdown time for UK players, so it’s better to finish anything important before December 31 rather than rely on one last evening online.

Which NBA 2K25 modes will still work offline?

2K’s NBA 2K25 Shutdown notice names Play Now, MyNBA, The W and MyWNBA as modes that remain playable offline. Its wider online-services status table also lists MyLeague/MyGM and 2KU/Learn 2K. If you’re mainly interested in quick matches, local franchise management or learning the controls, those options aren’t disappearing with the servers.

Mode or featureAfter January 1, 2027
Play NowPlayable offline
MyNBA, MyLeague, MyGMOffline play remains; Online Leagues end
The W, MyWNBAPlayable offline without connected features
2KU / Learn 2KListed as an offline mode by 2K
MyCAREERUnavailable
MyTEAM, including its solo activitiesUnavailable
Multiplayer, Online Leagues, community sharingUnavailable
Earning Virtual Currency (VC)Unavailable

There is one limit: offline mode doesn’t mean every feature within it works without a connection. Online Leagues and community sharing will close, even if the main mode has an offline option. Choose the local version of a mode rather than expecting its online menus to stay active.

MyCAREER after the NBA 2K25 Shutdown: can you still play?

No. MyCAREER will be unavailable from January 1, 2027. It doesn’t matter whether you usually play the story by yourself or spend most of your time in The City. 2K hasn’t announced a separate offline MyCAREER mode that keeps an existing MyPLAYER career going.

If you’re halfway through a season or have particular MyCAREER goals left to complete, the safe deadline is the end of December. The NBA 2K25 Shutdown announcement doesn’t describe a way to carry your MyPLAYER build or career save into NBA 2K26 or NBA 2K27.

Will MyTEAM work without the NBA 2K25 servers?

No. When the NBA 2K25 Shutdown takes effect on January 1, the entire MyTEAM mode becomes unavailable. That includes single-player challenges and games against AI opponents: they’re still inside MyTEAM’s online services, rather than being separate offline activities. Play Now remains available for standalone basketball games.

2K hasn’t announced a card export, an offline MyTEAM collection viewer or a way to bring your existing lineup into a newer title. If you want to use your collection or complete MyTEAM challenges, do so while the servers are still running.

Can you redownload NBA 2K25 after it is delisted?

Yes. The NBA 2K25 Shutdown won’t stop existing owners from redownloading the game and playing its offline modes. 2K confirms this directly. Delisting prevents new digital purchases after October 30; it doesn’t remove NBA 2K25 from the purchase libraries of players who already own it.

If you need to reinstall it after October 30, check the owned games or purchase library on the account you used to buy it. The public store page may no longer offer a purchase button. 2K hasn’t provided separate download instructions for every platform, so use your own library rather than assuming a missing store listing means you’ve lost access.

What happens to VC, MyPLAYER saves and purchases?

The NBA 2K25 Shutdown notice confirms you won’t be able to earn Virtual Currency (VC) after the online services close. It does not promise refunds for unused VC, a conversion to another currency, or automatic transfers of MyCAREER players and MyTEAM collections to a newer game. Don’t count on any of those arrangements unless 2K announces them.

That’s different from offline saves. 2K hasn’t said it will erase your local franchise progress, and its notice specifically keeps Play Now and MyNBA available. An offline MyNBA save is not the same thing as a server-dependent MyCAREER save, however, and copying files won’t turn MyCAREER into an offline mode.

Will physical NBA 2K25 copies still work?

Yes, for the supported offline modes. If you own a physical copy, the NBA 2K25 Shutdown affects its online services in the same way as a digital copy. Having the disc or game card doesn’t preserve access to MyCAREER, MyTEAM or multiplayer after the servers close.

You can still play Play Now or a local MyNBA career with an owned copy. But if you bought NBA 2K25 mainly for The City or to build a MyTEAM collection, those are the experiences that end with the online service.

How to prepare for the NBA 2K25 Shutdown

Finish the online activities you care about, especially an unfinished MyCAREER season, MyTEAM challenges or multiplayer sessions. You may also want to check whether you have unused VC, but 2K hasn’t announced reimbursement or a way to move balances into another NBA 2K game. The NBA 2K25 Shutdown is a reason to check your progress, not a reason to spend extra money.

Moving to a newer game? Our NBA 2K27 Season 2 rewards guide covers its MyTEAM progression, the GOAT Builds guide covers new player builds, and the NBA 2K27 Update 2.0 patch notes explain changes affecting MyCAREER. They’re guides to a different title, not ways to transfer your NBA 2K25 progress.

The NBA 2K25 Shutdown won’t make the entire game unplayable. The dates to remember are October 30 for delisting, December 31 for the end of online services and January 1 for MyCAREER, MyTEAM and other online modes becoming unavailable. Play Now and the other officially listed offline modes will still be there for owners.
