FFXIV Keyward Bound: Quest Location, Requirements and All Steps

FFXIV Keyward Bound

FFXIV Keyward Bound is the level 15 event quest that unlocks Keybound Brawler in Final Fantasy XIV. Start it by speaking to the Catlike Mammet in the Manderville Gold Saucer (X:5.4, Y:7.0). You must have completed It Could Happen to You first, then speak with W’zazanh in Wonder Square and the magitype master in Keybound Square.

The quest is part of the FFVII Remake collaboration that began on 28 October 2026 and runs until Patch 8.0. If the Catlike Mammet isn’t offering the quest or you can’t enter the typing activity, follow this route from the starting-city prerequisite to the final NPC.

You need a character at level 15 that has finished one of three main scenario quests: The Gridanian Envoy, The Ul’dahn Envoy or The Lominsan Envoy. Which one applies depends on where you began your FFXIV adventure. Only your own city’s envoy quest is needed.

Go to Ul’dah, Steps of Nald (X:9.6, Y:9.0) and speak with the Well-Heeled Youth. Accept and complete It Could Happen to You, the quest that opens the Manderville Gold Saucer. Once completed, you can take an airship to the venue from a starting city-state.

Inside the Gold Saucer, locate the Catlike Mammet at X:5.4, Y:7.0. The NPC gives FFXIV Keyward Bound. Check that the quest is active in your journal before heading towards Wonder Square, so you can follow the objective markers.

FFXIV Keyward Bound walkthrough: all quest steps

First, talk to the Catlike Mammet to begin the collaboration quest. Then head towards Wonder Square and speak with W’zazanh, the next person named in the objective. Follow the quest marker through the Gold Saucer if you’re unfamiliar with the different squares.

After speaking with W’zazanh, make your way to Keybound Square and talk to the magitype master. This introduces the typing attraction and completes the event’s unlock sequence. You can then enter Keybound Brawler to earn the event’s special currency.

The FFXIV Keyward Bound route doesn’t require collecting any MGC before you can finish it. MGC is the reward currency earned by playing the typing game after unlocking it. This separation is helpful if you’ve arrived at the Gold Saucer but haven’t found the activity entrance yet.

Why is FFXIV Keyward Bound not showing up?

Start with the two prerequisites: level 15 and It Could Happen to You. If you’ve reached the Gold Saucer through another means but never finished its introductory quest, go back to the Well-Heeled Youth in Ul’dah and complete it first.

Also check that your character has progressed through the relevant envoy main-story quest. The Gold Saucer introductory quest requires that main-scenario milestone. Once those steps are complete, look for the Catlike Mammet at the stated coordinates and inspect your current quest journal to avoid searching for a quest you’ve already accepted.

Does FFXIV Keyward Bound require a keyboard?

The quest introduces Keybound Brawler, and the attraction itself requires a physical keyboard. Square Enix explicitly states that gamepads and on-screen keyboards cannot be used for the typing activity. Even a player who normally uses a controller needs a proper keyboard when entering attack words.

This is a gameplay input condition rather than an additional level requirement for receiving the quest. The controller and keyboard guide explains the supported setup. Once you’re ready, the full event guide covers how to play.

What do you unlock after FFXIV Keyward Bound?

Completing the quest opens the four-player Keybound Brawler typing challenge. Participating earns Manderville Gold Saucer Credits (MGC), which you can exchange at the MGC Trader in Keybound Square (X:6.2, Y:6.0). The currency is separate from regular MGP.

The shop includes a five-piece Tifa-inspired outfit for 1,570 MGC, a six-piece Barret-inspired outfit for 1,760 MGC and the Magitek Scorpion Identification Key for 430 MGC. Our complete shop guide lists all 20 prizes.

When does the FFXIV Keyward Bound quest end?

The quest and FFVII collaboration remain available until Patch 8.0. Keybound Brawler launched at 8:00 GMT on 28 October 2026. Square Enix says MGC can only be earned and exchanged while the event is running, so finish the quest and collect the rewards you want before the crossover closes.

For the FFXIV Keyward Bound unlock, the NPC sequence is Well-Heeled Youth for the Gold Saucer, Catlike Mammet to start the event, W’zazanh in Wonder Square, then the magitype master in Keybound Square. After that, you can play and start earning MGC.
