FFXIV Keybound Brawler: How to Unlock and Play

FFXIV Keybound Brawler

FFXIV Keybound Brawler is a four-player typing challenge in the Manderville Gold Saucer. It opened on 28 October 2026 and runs until Patch 8.0. Unlock it at level 15 by completing It Could Happen to You, then Keyward Bound, the new quest from the Catlike Mammet.

This Final Fantasy VII Remake crossover awards MGC you can spend on Tifa and Barret outfits, a Magitek Scorpion mount and more. You need a physical keyboard for the typing activity. Here’s the full route from your starting city to the event, plus how to play and collect its prizes.

First, reach level 15 and complete the main scenario quest The Gridanian Envoy, The Ul’dahn Envoy or The Lominsan Envoy. Which one you finish depends on your starting city. You don’t need to complete all three.

Travel to Ul’dah, Steps of Nald (X:9.6, Y:9.0). Speak to the Well-Heeled Youth and complete It Could Happen to You. This opens the Manderville Gold Saucer and its airship travel connection from the three starting cities.

At the Gold Saucer, find the Catlike Mammet at X:5.4, Y:7.0 and start Keyward Bound. Finish the event quest to open the attraction. If you cannot see the quest, check your level and whether the Gold Saucer introductory quest is complete.

How to play FFXIV Keybound Brawler

The event pits a group of up to four players against incoming enemies. Instead of using your job’s combat rotation, you type the words displayed over targets to attack them. Watch the enemy lanes and clear approaching threats before they overwhelm your side of the arena.

The FFXIV Keybound Brawler activity is built around keyboard accuracy. Follow the text on screen, finish the displayed entry, then move to another advancing enemy. The stage display shows enemy movement, a shared battlefield and target progress. Four players participate in the same challenge, with everyone contributing to the defence.

Does FFXIV Keybound Brawler work with a controller?

No, not for typing. Square Enix explicitly states that gamepads and on-screen keyboards cannot be used for Keybound Brawler. A real keyboard is required even if you normally play FFXIV with a controller. This is a restriction of the attraction’s text entry, not a ban on controller use throughout FFXIV.

Before you start, connect a hardware keyboard and test that it works in the game. If the keyboard isn’t recognised, resolve the connection first. The controller compatibility guide has the relevant checks for console and PC users.

How to earn MGC in FFXIV Keybound Brawler

Participate in the attraction to receive Manderville Gold Saucer Credits (MGC). Square Enix says all participants earn the event currency. MGC is separate from normal Manderville Gold Saucer Points (MGP), so regular Gold Saucer winnings do not replace the new credits.

Spend your earnings with the MGC Trader in Keybound Square (X:6.2, Y:6.0). The shop offers the Tifa-inspired five-piece outfit for 1,570 MGC, the Barret-inspired six-piece outfit for 1,760 MGC and the Magitek Scorpion Identification Key for 430 MGC. There are also minions, music and an emote.

Completing the activity 100 times also earns the Magitype Magister title through Masterstroke IV. The complete reward guide gives every individual price, while our MGC guide explains the event currency and where to spend it. You can make a shopping list before using your credits.

When does the FFXIV Keybound Brawler event end?

The start time was 8:00 GMT on Wednesday, 28 October 2026. The collaboration ends when Patch 8.0 releases. Square Enix says this attraction will return as a special event at irregular intervals after the crossover, but the present MGC shop is available only during the current event period.

MGC can only be earned and exchanged while the event is active, so visit the trader after you’ve collected enough for your chosen rewards. The FFXIV Keybound Brawler unlock itself takes you from the Well-Heeled Youth to the Catlike Mammet, after which you can play using your keyboard and work towards the FFVII items.
