The exploration is not being described as a menu screen dressed up as an island. Nintendo specifically highlights chasing dolphins in the ocean, searching for hidden hibiscus flowers and collecting Spocco Photos that teach players more about sightseeing locations around the resort.
Skateboarding, Power Cruising and Prop Plane fit directly into that free-roaming side of the game. Skateboarding uses Joy-Con 2 mouse controls, Power Cruising lets players steer over the water and Prop Plane provides a way to fly around the island by tilting the controller. The competitive sports have Island Crown progression, while Wuhu Island’s leisure activities provide sightseeing challenges.

Wuhu Island still houses the competitive side of the game as well. The remaining sports include Boxing, Table Tennis, Archery, Tennis, Volleyball, Bowling, Basketball, Golf and Thumb Wrestling, while Jump Rope exists as a warm-up activity.
Free exploration should not be confused with Island Crown. Island Crown is a separate offline mode with rankings in nine competitive sports before challenging Island Champions and island Legends. Exploring the island is the more open-ended side of the package.
Can You Explore Wuhu Island in Nintendo Switch Sports Resort for photos and missions?
The Sightseeing Tours in Prop Plane, Skateboarding and Power Cruising each run in five-minute sessions. Launch gameplay reports 105 Spocco Photos for Prop Plane, 80 for Skateboarding and 60 for Power Cruising, along with 128 Island Missions across the activities. Free Play lets you explore without the timed collecting objective. Online modes include Casual Online Play, Pro League and an eight-player Friend Lobby.
Sightseeing Tour runs for five minutes; Free Play has no countdown. If a photo marker is difficult to reach, use Free Play to learn the route before returning to a Sightseeing Tour to collect it.

Prop Plane lets you fly over Wuhu Island, Power Cruising explores the water and Skateboarding uses Joy-Con 2 mouse controls to travel along paths. Select Free Play when you want to explore without the timer.
Exploration and competition overlap throughout the resort. The same game that lets players hunt for flowers and photos also uses Wuhu Island as the setting for 12 sports, while Island Crown adds a structured offline ladder for players who want a clear challenge.
