Nintendo Switch Sports Resort New Sports adds seven activities that were not part of the completed Nintendo Switch Sports roster: Boxing, Table Tennis, Archery, Thumb Wrestling, Skateboarding, Power Cruising and Prop Plane.

Four of the additions belong to the nine competitive sports in Island Crown. The remaining three let you explore Wuhu Island through sightseeing, races and free roaming. That makes Nintendo Switch Sports Resort New Sports a mixture of head-to-head events and leisure activities, not simply seven more ranked matches.

The comparison is against Nintendo Switch Sports after its free Golf and Basketball updates, when that game had eight sports. Resort keeps Tennis, Volleyball, Bowling, Basketball and Golf, then swaps out Soccer, Badminton and Chambara for seven different activities.

Boxing, Table Tennis and Archery expand the traditional motion-sport side of the package. Nintendo describes Boxing around punching, guarding and counter-punching, Table Tennis around shot selection, and Archery around aim, wind adjustment and timing the release. The competitive sports have Island Crown progression, while Wuhu Island’s leisure activities provide sightseeing challenges.

Which of the Nintendo Switch Sports Resort New Sports are competitive?

Thumb Wrestling is the oddball competitive addition. Nintendo says players battle using one thumb to pin an opponent, giving the game a deliberately compact motion challenge alongside the larger full-body activities.

Skateboarding, Power Cruising and Prop Plane are more closely linked to Wuhu Island itself. Skateboarding uses Joy-Con 2 mouse controls, Power Cruising uses the controllers like handlebars on the water, and Prop Plane lets players tilt the controller while flying around the island.

Which new sports let you explore Wuhu Island?

These additions also matter because Resort is not structured only as a list of isolated sports. Wuhu Island can be freely explored, and Nintendo has added collectible Spocco Photos, hidden hibiscus flowers and dolphin-chasing alongside the sports facilities. Online modes include Casual Online Play, Pro League and an eight-player Friend Lobby.

All twelve activities can earn Spocco Points, but Island Crown rankings are limited to nine competitive sports. Among the seven additions, Boxing, Table Tennis, Archery and Thumb Wrestling have Island Crown progress; Skateboarding, Power Cruising and Prop Plane are leisure activities with exploration challenges instead.

How the seven new sports work with Island Crown

The four competitive additions all have offline Island Crown ladders. Boxing and Thumb Wrestling are limited to two players, while Archery allows up to four locally or online. Table Tennis can accommodate four locally, but online matches are limited to two. Nintendo Switch Sports Resort New Sports therefore uses different player limits depending on the event.

Each leisure sport has a Sightseeing Tour, a Free Play option and its own challenge: Skate Sprint for Skateboarding, Sea Sprint for Power Cruising and Ball Battle for Prop Plane. Sightseeing Tours give you five minutes to collect Spocco Photos, while Free Play removes the timer. These modes are part of the base game; no paid sport pack is needed.

Nintendo Switch Sports Resort launched exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2 on 22 October 2026. All seven new activities earn Spocco Points as you play, which you can spend on cosmetic items in the Item Center. The Island Crown guide explains the ranked sports, while the Wuhu Island guide covers sightseeing.

Which Nintendo Switch Sports Resort New Sports should you try first?

Start with Boxing or Thumb Wrestling for quick head-to-head competition. Table Tennis adds a Return Challenge where you aim at cans; Archery tests steady aiming and wind adjustment. For exploring, Prop Plane gives an aerial view, Skateboarding lets you discover routes at ground level and Power Cruising follows the coastline.

Tennis returns with a Laid-Back Match option: Tennis. Golf returns with three-, nine- and eighteen-hole rounds: Golf.
