Age of Wonders 4 free weekend ends on Monday, November 9 at 6 PM GMT on Steam. You can download and play the base strategy game on PC without paying or subscribing to Game Pass. Xbox has a separate November 5 to 8 offer, but that one requires Game Pass Essential, Premium or Ultimate.
If you want the longest trial, Steam gives you until Monday evening in the UK. Xbox players have Sunday as their last advertised day, with no exact closing hour published. Neither offer gives you a permanent game licence, although the separate Aric Rex add-on is now free.
Age of Wonders 4 free weekend: Steam and Xbox end dates
Triumph Studios dates the Steam Age of Wonders 4 free weekend from Thursday, November 5 at 7 PM CET until Monday, November 9 at 7 PM CET. That’s 6 PM GMT on both days in the UK. Xbox Wire gives November 8 as the last day of its own Free Play Days offer.
| Platform | Free trial ends | Requirement |
|---|---|---|
| Steam on PC | Monday, November 9 at 6 PM GMT | Steam account; no Game Pass required |
| Xbox console | Sunday, November 8 (exact hour unlisted) | Game Pass Essential, Premium or Ultimate |
Outside the UK, Steam’s November 9 closing time is 1 PM EST in New York, 10 AM PST in Los Angeles and 7 PM CET in Central Europe. These are Steam times, not confirmed Xbox ending hours.
How to download Age of Wonders 4 free on Steam
Sign into Steam and open the Age of Wonders 4 game page. The temporary offer should appear as Play for free with a Play Game button. Use that to download the base game. The usual paid editions are listed separately, so you don’t need to add one to your basket.
The Age of Wonders 4 free weekend on Steam has no Game Pass requirement. It gives you time to try building a faction, exploring a fantasy realm and fighting turn-based battles. Free access ends when the Steam promotion closes at 6 PM GMT on November 9.
If you see Buy or Add to Cart but no free play option, check you’re on the base game’s page rather than an expansion, and make sure the trial is still active. A discounted copy is not the same as a temporary free licence.
How the Xbox Age of Wonders 4 trial works
On Xbox, Age of Wonders 4 is one of the November 5 to 8 Free Play Days games reserved for Game Pass Essential, Premium and Ultimate subscribers. Sign into the eligible account, open the Microsoft Store’s Subscriptions section and look in the Free Play Days collection.
The Xbox promotion is not free for every account. Our Xbox Free Play Days November 2026 guide has all eight participating games, including the two that don’t need Game Pass.
Is Age of Wonders 4 free to keep?
No. The Age of Wonders 4 free weekend is a temporary trial. When it finishes, you’ll need to buy the base game or have another valid licence to continue playing. Trying it for free doesn’t add a permanent copy to your account.
If you do want to buy it, Triumph Studios is offering 60% off the base game, Starter Edition and Premium Edition on Steam until November 18, with up to 35% off selected DLC. The new Silver Seas expansion is paid content, not an automatic inclusion in the free trial. Check the UK Steam listing for the exact edition price.
Xbox says you retain achievements and Gamerscore earned during Free Play Days if you buy a participating game. On Steam, save your campaign normally, but don’t assume saves will automatically carry between Steam and an Xbox console or another storefront.
What about the free Aric Rex DLC?
There is a separate free add-on: the Age of Wonders 4: Pre-Order Content Pack. It includes the Tigran ruler Aric Rex, a lion plate armour set, the Athlan Crown and an Imperial Cape. The pack is DLC, not a copy of the base game.
Our Aric Rex free DLC guide shows how to find the pack. Steam lists it as free but says the base game is required to use it. The DLC listing does not give a November 9 claim deadline, so don’t confuse it with the trial’s end.
Why isn’t the free Steam download showing?
First, make sure you’re looking at the Age of Wonders 4 base game on Steam, signed into your account and still inside the free weekend. The Play Game trial button is different from buying the game. On Xbox, you need the qualifying Game Pass account and the console’s Free Play Days collection.
An Xbox trial ending on Sunday doesn’t stop you from using the separate Steam offer through Monday, provided it’s still active on Steam. But that also doesn’t make a sale price or an Aric Rex DLC download a permanent free copy of Age of Wonders 4.
Age of Wonders 4 free weekend: which offer should you use?
For PC, the Age of Wonders 4 free weekend on Steam lasts until 6 PM GMT on Monday, November 9. On Xbox, eligible Game Pass members have the advertised November 8 deadline. Pick the version you can access and download it before the relevant offer closes.
If you’re mostly interested in the bonus Tigran ruler rather than the whole game, the free Aric Rex pack is listed separately. You don’t need to buy a more expensive edition just to see whether the base-game trial is right for you.
