Nintendo Switch sales ending February 2027 means Nintendo will stop supplying new original Switch, Switch Lite and Switch OLED consoles to retailers across Europe, including the UK, from mid-February 2027. It is a hardware sales change, not a shutdown of consoles people already own.

Your Switch will still work. Nintendo says its games, accessories, eShop and Nintendo Switch Online will continue for the foreseeable future. There is no deadline to transfer your saves or replace a working console because of this announcement.

Nintendo Switch sales ending February 2027: which models?

The original Nintendo Switch, Switch Lite and Switch OLED are the three console variants affected. Nintendo says they will continue being manufactured in 2026 and should remain widely available across Europe during that year.

From mid-February 2027, Nintendo plans to end shipments of these three consoles to European retailers. The Nintendo Store will also stop selling them. That does not mean every other retailer must remove its remaining stock on the same day.

You may still see new, unopened Switch consoles on shop shelves after Nintendo’s supply cut-off. Retailers decide how long to offer their remaining stock, so availability will differ between stores.

Why is Nintendo stopping those hardware sales?

The timing is connected to new European battery rules taking effect in February 2027. Nintendo is revising several products to include user-replaceable batteries, including Switch 2, Joy-Con 2 and some controllers. Its original Switch family is not being revised in the same way.

Nintendo has decided to stop supplying those older models for European retail sale rather than develop user-replaceable battery versions for each one. Consoles already sold before the regulation change are not rendered noncompliant by it.

Nintendo Switch sales ending February 2027 reflects a change in how Nintendo supplies its older hardware. Devices sold before the new European battery rules take effect remain valid, and Nintendo hasn’t asked existing owners to replace them.

Will Nintendo Switch eShop and online services shut down?

Nintendo explicitly says Nintendo eShop, Nintendo Switch Online and other services will remain available for the foreseeable future. Digital purchases and supported online features are not being switched off because Nintendo is ending new hardware supply.

The original Switch game library is still growing too. This announcement gives no final date for new releases, game updates or online multiplayer. It is about hardware being shipped to retailers.

Nintendo Switch sales ending February 2027 must not be confused with an eShop closure. Unlike past shutdown announcements for older Nintendo systems, this notice doesn’t give a date when Switch owners will lose access to their digital store or subscription.

Do current Switch owners need to upgrade?

No upgrade is required. A Switch, Lite or OLED bought before the regulatory change can still be used, and Nintendo says existing hardware is unaffected by the new rules. Keep your games and saves where they are unless you decide to move them.

That is worth knowing if your current console works fine. Whether to buy a Switch 2 is a choice about the games and features you want, not a requirement created by the battery regulations.

Nintendo Switch sales ending February 2027 doesn’t force a save transfer either. Nintendo hasn’t set a deadline for owners to move to Switch 2, and the original consoles will continue to support their existing game libraries.

Can I still buy a new Switch after February 2027?

Individual shops may have stock remaining after Nintendo stops supplying new units. The exact final sale date at each retailer will depend on its own inventory. For Nintendo Switch sales ending February 2027, the direct Nintendo Store stops offering the listed systems after mid-February, but no universal sellout date has been announced.

If you buy a remaining new Switch later in 2027, check whether it is genuinely unopened, what warranty the retailer provides and whether any advertised bundle is still in stock. None of those buying checks means Nintendo has set a universal sellout date.

Nintendo Switch sales ending February 2027 also comes alongside a wider accessory transition. Nintendo says the original Switch Pro Controller will not receive a user-replaceable-battery revision and will no longer be offered on Nintendo Store after mid-February. It has not said existing controllers will stop working.

What about controllers, batteries and Switch 2?

Nintendo’s replacement programme affects selected newer accessories as well as the revised Switch 2 console. The Switch 2 model with a replaceable battery is BEE-001(-01), while the original BEE-001 does not have that feature. Separate Joy-Con 2 battery-replacement kits are also planned.

These battery revisions don’t convert an existing Switch Lite, Switch OLED or original Switch into owner-replaceable hardware. Nintendo’s announcement explicitly excludes the original console family from those revisions.
