Titan Quest II crafting lets you improve equipment you’ve already found by changing affixes, adding properties and upgrading an item’s level. You can’t make a brand-new weapon from nothing: every crafting project begins with an existing piece of loot. The system has been playable in PC Early Access since August 2026, with further affix fixes in the October 29 patch.
Crafting uses Gold and collected materials, and repeated attempts on the same item become more expensive. That makes knowing when to reforge, replace or add an affix useful. Each option changes equipment in a different way, and material costs make it worth choosing a good base item first.
How Titan Quest II crafting works
To begin Titan Quest II crafting, open the crafting interface and choose an item you want to improve. You can change an existing affix’s value, replace an affix with a different eligible property, add a property if an item has room or increase its item level once. The choices available depend on the item and the materials you’ve collected.
An affix is an equipment property. Prefixes and suffixes determine which ones a piece can naturally roll. If you replace an affix, the game only offers compatible choices, so a sword won’t suddenly gain any arbitrary property you can imagine. It follows the rules for that item type.

Reforge, replace and add affixes in Titan Quest II crafting
Reforge rerolls the numerical value of one selected affix. The interface shows the available range, letting you decide whether the result is worth the materials. This is useful if the property itself suits your build but its roll is disappointing.
Replace swaps one affix for a different eligible prefix or suffix. This changes what the item actually does, rather than simply nudging a number. It is best used when your equipment has a property that doesn’t support your chosen skills.
Add an affix gives an item another property, provided it hasn’t reached its maximum number. If all available affix slots are already filled, you’ll need to work with what is there rather than adding beyond the cap.
How to increase item level using Titan Quest II crafting
An item-level upgrade increases the base properties of equipment and the tier of its affixes. This is a one-time crafting option for each item. It’s a useful way to keep an excellent drop relevant for longer, but it has limits and can’t make an early-game item into top-end level 55 equipment.
The October 29 patch made upgrades safer: increasing item level can no longer downgrade an affix tier, and an affix that remains in the same tier cannot lose numerical value. When the affix advances into a new tier, the new roll can still vary within that tier’s range.

Where to get Titan Quest II crafting materials
Titan Quest II crafting materials come from monsters and salvaging equipment. Crude Fragments come from monsters and salvaging items. Mystic Shards come from monsters and salvaging magic items, while Amplified Energy comes from monsters and salvaging rare items.
Stronger non-boss enemies can drop Vital Flame and Bound Essence; Bound Essence can also come from salvaging some equipment. Golden Spark is earned from salvaging epic items. Once you’ve found a useful base weapon, keeping some materials ready can make an upgrade easier.
Why the cost increases when you craft repeatedly
Every Titan Quest II crafting action spends materials and Gold. Repeated work on the same item becomes progressively more expensive, so reworking a modest item many times can cost more than finding a better drop and starting again. The system is designed to help refine good gear, not replace looting altogether.
For a straightforward approach, save repeated attempts for equipment with useful base properties and affixes. If a new drop already has a better combination of stats, compare it before spending valuable materials on your older piece.
How Charms and Relics fit with Titan Quest II crafting
Charms and Relics are socketable bonuses rather than ordinary crafted affixes. They can be placed in compatible weapons, armour, rings and amulets, and three fragments combine into a complete Charm or Relic with a stronger bonus. See our Charms and Relics guide for how that equipment layer works.
For regular equipment, the core options remain reforge, replace, add and upgrade item level. Check the item’s allowed properties and the current material cost before committing, especially when you’re saving resources for a new build.
