How to Show Hidden Objects in The Sims 4: Debug and Live Edit Cheats

Hidden objects in The Sims 4 can turn an ordinary Build Mode catalogue into a huge library of environmental props, gameplay objects, clutter and world decoration that the normal filters do not show. The useful part is knowing that there are two different cheat layers: ordinary hidden or debug objects and the much larger Live Edit collection.

The older version of this guide also made testingcheats true sound mandatory before every Build Mode code. EA’s current cheat guidance separates Build Mode cheats from Live Mode cheats, so the cleaner approach is to use the exact Build Mode command you need and understand what each catalogue layer actually unlocks.

To unlock hidden objects in The Sims 4, open the cheat console and enter bb.showhiddenobjects. On PC or Mac, open the console with Ctrl + Shift + C or the equivalent keyboard shortcut. On PlayStation or Xbox, use all four shoulder buttons. After entering the command, open Build/Buy and search for debug to surface the hidden catalogue entries.

For hidden objects in The Sims 4, EA lists bb.showhiddenobjects as a Build Mode cheat. Its current console guidance says Build Mode cheats do not need to be treated like the Live Mode cheats that rely on testingcheats true, which is useful because enabling certain testing cheats on console can disable trophies or achievements for that save.

Use Live Edit for the larger world-object catalogue

The first command unlocks many hidden objects in The Sims 4, but builders often want the scenery used to construct neighbourhoods as well. Enter bb.showliveeditobjects after enabling the hidden catalogue. This exposes a much larger collection of rocks, plants, signs, fences, environmental decoration and other world pieces.

Live Edit objects are not normal furniture. Many have no useful interactions, some use unusual footprints and some can be awkward to select after placement. Treat them as scenery rather than expecting them to behave like catalogue items designed for a household.

If the Live Edit catalogue looks incomplete, enter bb.showhiddenobjects first and then bb.showliveeditobjects. Search terms and catalogue filters can behave differently across patches, so clearing filters or searching debug is often more reliable than browsing a single room category.

Hidden, Live Edit and career objects are different

Not all hidden objects in The Sims 4 are unlocked by the same command. bb.showhiddenobjects exposes debug-style content. bb.showliveeditobjects adds world scenery. bb.ignoregameplayunlocksentitlement is a separate Build Mode cheat that unlocks career reward objects that normally require career progression.

Keeping the different types of hidden objects in The Sims 4 separate makes troubleshooting much easier. If a career reward is missing, repeating the Debug command will not solve it. If a landscape rock is missing, a career-unlock code is irrelevant. Use the command that matches the type of object you actually want.

The September 2026 free Build/Buy additions are also normal base-game content, not debug objects. If those items are missing after Patch 1.128, remove catalogue filters and test without Build/Buy mods before assuming they belong in the hidden catalogue.

How to place debug objects cleanly

Builders get much more value from hidden objects in The Sims 4 when they combine the catalogue with free placement and Move Objects. bb.moveobjects on allows decorative pieces to overlap or sit closer together, while Alt or Option placement on PC and Mac removes much of the normal grid snapping.

Use restraint around interactive furniture. A decorative crate can overlap another prop safely, but placing hidden scenery across a door, chair or appliance can block routing. Test every functional area in Live Mode after adding large debug or Live Edit pieces.

Many world objects are much larger than their catalogue thumbnail suggests. Place one at a time, zoom out before confirming and use Undo if the object covers more of the lot than expected. Some pieces are difficult to select once buried inside terrain or other decoration.

What hidden objects are good for

Hidden objects in The Sims 4 are especially useful for landscaping, storytelling lots and clutter-heavy builds. World rocks and plants can make large gardens less repetitive, environmental props can create convincing community spaces and debug clutter can fill shelves or work areas without buying another pack.

They are also useful for screenshots and themed builds where visual authenticity matters more than normal object interactions. A market, construction site, alleyway or abandoned lot often looks more believable when world props are mixed with ordinary Build/Buy content.

Because hidden objects in The Sims 4 come from the game itself, availability can change as packs and patches add or reorganise assets. A specific item appearing in somebody else’s Debug catalogue may depend on owned DLC even though the cheat command itself works in the base game.

If the Debug catalogue is missing

If hidden objects in The Sims 4 do not appear, re-enter the cheat, clear catalogue filters and search for debug. Test in a new save with no Build/Buy mods if the catalogue still looks wrong. UI and catalogue mods are more likely to affect what you can see than an ordinary hair or clothing package.

Delete localthumbcache.package after changing the Mods folder and restart the game. If Build Mode itself is freezing, blank or refusing to open, use the dedicated Build Mode troubleshooting guide rather than repeatedly entering cheat commands.

The key commands remain simple: bb.showhiddenobjects for Debug, bb.showliveeditobjects for world scenery and bb.ignoregameplayunlocksentitlement for career rewards. Once those are separated, hidden objects in The Sims 4 become a powerful building library instead of a confusing wall of unnamed catalogue entries. Used this way, hidden objects in The Sims 4 expand Build Mode without making the catalogue or the finished lot harder to manage.
