First things first, you’re going to need to be in Build Mode. Once, you’re ready to start building… All you need to do is find the “Basement” Tool next to the “Build Room” tool on the HUD.

In a similar fashion to room-building, all you need to do is select the area where you want your basement to be and select it. If you’re building your basement after the rest of your house, it might be an idea to hit Page Down and see where your basement is going to be placed.

When you build a basement in The Sims 4, you can only go two floors down. This means that if you want a tall house, you can have a total of six floors. Once you’ve built the basement area, it can be worked around like any other room in your house. You can change the height of the walls, add furniture, and decorate it as you please. The only thing you should be aware of is that there’s no point putting in exterior windows or exterior doors. Because y’know… underground.

Tip One – How to build a basement in The Sims 4:- Always add stairs as soon as you can.

If you want to make sure your Sims can actually use the basement space you’ve built when you’re finished, you’re going to need to make sure that you add stairs in as a part of your decorative plans. This works in exactly the same way as it would if you were adding a second floor to your house. That means you need to make sure they lead up into your house, and you need to make sure you have a hole in the floor to allow access to the stairs.

Tip Two – How to build a basement in The Sims 4:- Be careful if you’re adding a pre-built room.

In The Sims 4, you can build pre-decorated rooms, and adding these to a basement is easy. The basement works in the same way as any other room, so you should be able to “drag and drop” your chosen pre-built room into a basement room. The only issue is… You can’t have doors!

If you find yourself choosing a design with doors, you might see an error message appear. To combat this, all you need to do is stick the room above the ground first and delete the doors. It’s a bit of a pain, but then you should be able to move the doorless room into your basement without any problems.

Tip Three- How to build a basement in The Sims 4:- You can do a lot with a basement.

This isn’t exactly a tip, but there are a lot of ways you can explore with a basement in The Sims 4 (when you build one, anyway).

If you want an open basement outside of your house or a basement with high ceilings, you can actually delete the ceiling. This might look a little strange without any decoration, as it’s essentially a hole in the ground, but it can offer up some exciting designs for your house.

Similarly… If you want a split-level basement underneath your house, you’ll need to add fencing in and delete a floor. Just follow these steps:

Firstly, create a two-floored basement;

You can do this by mapping out the first part of the basement and then deleting the floor between this basement and the second level.

Secondly, you’ll need to fill in the wall of the upper area using the Wall Tool.

If you want an open-feel to the split-level basement, you can actually add fencing instead of the wall to open the area up more.

Finally, one thing that we really must point out as we bring this How to build a basement in The Sims 4 guide to a close is don’t forget the stairs – and then you’re good to go. It’s the same as if you needed to build a split-level area in your house above-ground.

Basements are a great way to add depth to any build you embark on in The Sims 4, and if you haven’t checked them out yet, you really should.
