Assassin’s Creed Valhalla PS5 Pro PSSR support arrived with Ubisoft’s free 1.8.0 update on 5 November 2026. If you’ve got a PS5 Pro, the big change is an easy one to appreciate: Quality mode now runs at 60 FPS, with cleaner 4K upscaling. Not bad for a game that came out years before the Pro existed.
There is one catch. The new PSSR upgrade is exclusive to PS5 Pro. Everyone else still gets the update’s New Game Plus and gameplay additions, but you won’t find the same Quality mode improvements on a regular PS5. Here’s what has changed and what you need to install.
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla PS5 Pro PSSR: is Quality mode 60 FPS?
Yes, Quality mode is now 60 FPS on PS5 Pro. Ubisoft has replaced Valhalla’s previous temporal upscaler with upgraded PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution, giving the picture sharper details and better stability. It’s a particularly welcome improvement in a game with so many forests, villages and distant mountain views.
One thing worth clearing up is the 4K claim. This is upscaled 4K, not confirmed native 4K rendering. PSSR reconstructs the final image from the game’s rendering data. Ubisoft hasn’t specified a fixed internal resolution or provided frame-rate test results for every area. What it has confirmed is an improved 4K image and 60 FPS Quality mode on PS5 Pro.
The Assassin’s Creed Valhalla PS5 Pro PSSR upgrade is built into the game update itself. Quality mode is now the default on PS5 Pro, according to Ubisoft. A separate Low Energy mode running at 30 FPS has also been added for both PS5 and PS5 Pro, but that is not the same as the enhanced Pro Quality mode.

How to download Assassin’s Creed Valhalla PS5 Pro PSSR
Install Title Update 1.8.0 on the PS5 version of Valhalla. Ubisoft released it at 14:00 UTC on 5 November, which was 2 PM GMT in the UK, 9 AM ET and 6 AM PT. The release has already taken place, so it should now be available through the normal PS5 game update process.
- On your PS5 Pro, highlight Assassin’s Creed Valhalla in the games list.
- Check for a game update and install the latest available version.
- Restart the game if it was already running.
- Launch the PS5 edition on PS5 Pro to use the new PSSR improvements.
Ubisoft gives the PlayStation 5 patch size as approximately 5.26 GB. Your actual download can depend on what is already installed. There is no additional PSSR download or upgrade purchase; the graphics changes are part of this free title update.
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla PS5 Pro PSSR versus standard PS5
No. The standard PS5 gets shared gameplay additions in 1.8.0, but the new PSSR upscaling is a PS5 Pro-only feature. That 60 FPS Quality mode figure belongs to the Pro version. It doesn’t describe a newly unlocked base-PS5 mode.
The Assassin’s Creed Valhalla PS5 Pro PSSR change is also different from Sony’s system-level Enhance PSSR Image Quality setting. That option can bring newer reconstruction to compatible games that previously supported older PSSR. Ubisoft has integrated upgraded PSSR into Valhalla directly, so you don’t need to treat the console setting as a hidden Valhalla patch switch.
What else did the free update add?
There is plenty here even if you’re not using a Pro. Ubisoft calls 1.8.0 The Most Requested Update, and the new content is available on supported PlayStation, Xbox and PC versions.
- New Game Plus: replay the adventure after finishing the Holy Day quest in Hamtunscire, carrying over progression.
- Enhanced Progression Mode: optional new Power calculation involving equipment, runes and masteries.
- Mithril: a new resource for Divine-quality upgrades and higher progression.
- Rune Forge changes: more ways to upgrade and engrave perks.
- New rewards: the Naoe-inspired Master Assassin outfit, achievements and Animus Hub synchronisation.
If you’re here for New Game Plus rather than the graphics, our Assassin’s Creed Valhalla New Game Plus guide covers the Holy Day requirement and what carries over. You don’t need a Pro to play it.
Is Assassin’s Creed Valhalla PS5 Pro PSSR free?
Yes. If you already own the game, the Assassin’s Creed Valhalla PS5 Pro PSSR improvements are included with the normal 1.8.0 download. There’s no remaster purchase involved, and you don’t need the Dawn of Ragnarök expansion to install the graphics update.
Once you’ve updated, head somewhere familiar and see how the trees, distant buildings and smaller details hold up. You won’t suddenly be playing a remaster; this is Valhalla with a cleaner picture and a much more appealing Quality mode.
