Age of Wonders 4 Aric Rex free DLC is now available through Steam’s Pre-Order Content Pack, listed at Free. It includes Aric Rex, a Tigran ruler, plus the Lion Plate Armor Set, Athlan Crown and Imperial Cape. You no longer need an old pre-order entitlement to get this pack.
The catch is simple: it’s bonus content, not a free copy of Age of Wonders 4. Steam requires the base game to use the items. Here’s where to find the pack, how the download works and why it has a different deadline from this week’s free game trial.
What’s included in the Age of Wonders 4 Aric Rex free DLC?
Triumph Studios made Aric Rex available to more players in celebration of Expansion Pass 3. The official listing still uses its original name, Age of Wonders 4: Pre-Order Content Pack. That’s the exact product to search for, even though the pre-order period is long over.
| Free content | Type |
|---|---|
| Aric Rex | Tigran ruler |
| Lion Plate Armor Set | Armour appearance |
| Athlan Crown | Headwear |
| Imperial Cape | Clothing |
Aric Rex is the ruler included in the pack. The Lion Plate Armor Set, Athlan Crown and Imperial Cape are appearance options. None of them is a new campaign, a paid expansion or a standalone game.
How to claim Age of Wonders 4 Aric Rex free DLC on Steam
In Steam, search for Age of Wonders 4: Pre-Order Content Pack. Open the add-on’s own store page, not the standard base-game listing. You should see Free and a Download option beneath the DLC title.
Choose Download and follow the Steam client prompts. If Steam directs you to install or purchase the base game, remember the pack is DLC. Check the Age of Wonders 4 entry in your library to confirm which downloadable content is recognised; don’t assume the offer can be permanently claimed by every account without the main game.
The Age of Wonders 4 Aric Rex free DLC guide here covers Steam. The pack also has listings on other storefronts, but claiming it on Steam doesn’t automatically give you a licence on Xbox, PlayStation or Epic. Make sure you’re using the version of the game you actually own.
Do you need to own the base game?
Yes, you’ll need access to Age of Wonders 4 to use the pack. Steam states that requirement directly on the DLC listing. Downloading the free clothing and ruler content doesn’t unlock the main game, so you won’t be able to start a new campaign using this pack alone.
If you already own the game on Steam, look in your library’s Age of Wonders 4 DLC section after following the download prompts. Then launch the game and check its available ruler and customisation options. Steam confirms the names of the items, though not an exact menu sequence for every version of the game.
Can you use Aric Rex in the free weekend trial?
There’s also an Age of Wonders 4 Steam free weekend running until Monday, November 9 at 6 PM GMT. That lets you try the base game for a few days while the Aric Rex pack is offered as free DLC. The game trial ends on Monday, regardless of whether you’ve downloaded the extra ruler.
Our Age of Wonders 4 free weekend guide explains Steam’s closing time and Xbox’s shorter November 8 offer. Those deadlines apply to temporary access to the main game; they aren’t announced cut-offs for the Age of Wonders 4 Aric Rex free DLC.
When does Age of Wonders 4 Aric Rex free DLC expire?
Steam doesn’t currently show an expiry date for the free Pre-Order Content Pack. Triumph Studios described Aric Rex as a bonus now available to everyone. That is different from saying the publisher has promised a permanent price for all time. There’s no verified last-claim hour to add to a countdown.
If you’ve seen November 8 or 9 mentioned as the deadline, those are dates for the Xbox and Steam base-game free weekends. You can check the DLC’s current price on the official Steam page rather than treating a trial deadline as a limited-time gift expiration.
What if the free pack doesn’t appear in-game?
Check that you’ve downloaded the Pre-Order Content Pack, not just the base-game trial. In Steam, open the Age of Wonders 4 entry and inspect its DLC list. If the pack is recognised but you can’t see the items, try restarting the Steam client and the game.
If the Age of Wonders 4 Aric Rex free DLC still doesn’t appear, confirm that you’re launching the Steam version of Age of Wonders 4. Add-ons from one storefront don’t necessarily work with another store’s licence. The Steam store page also says the base game is required.
Is Aric Rex worth claiming?
For existing Steam players, a ruler and three cosmetic extras at no cost are worth picking up. If you’ve never played the game, the weekend trial is a chance to see whether you enjoy its empire-building and tactical combat before paying for the base game.
For other offers, our Xbox Free Play Days November 2026 roundup covers eight temporary game trials, while the Anno 117 free weekend guide covers another strategy release. Unlike those trials, Age of Wonders 4 Aric Rex free DLC is an add-on rather than a playable base game.
