The First Descendant Gley Explosive Life Build After 1.4.6: Life Spheres and Skill Damage

The First Descendant Halloween Event Pass 2026

A Gley Explosive Life Build changed substantially in The First Descendant’s October 2026 updates. The old firearm bonuses were removed in favour of Skill Power and Skill Critical Hit Rate, and patch 1.4.6 raised the maximum Life Spheres from ten to twenty. If you’re following a build made before October 15, you may be optimising the wrong kind of damage entirely.

For a Gley Explosive Life Build after patch 1.4.6, focus on the upgraded Frenzied skill, Skill Power-based Massacre and managing the Life Spheres Explosive Life consumes. There are several modules worth trying, but a pre-rework setup shouldn’t be mistaken for a verified best-in-slot configuration today. Here are the current numbers, a starting loadout and how to play the revised rotation.

Gley Explosive Life Build: recommended starting modules

Equip Explosive Life as Ultimate Gley’s Transcendent Module. An older community loadout on Descendant.gg uses the following named pieces. They offer a concrete starting point for the Gley Explosive Life Build, although the build predates the October rework and needs fresh testing against current Skill Power and critical-hit scaling.

Module or equipmentHow to use it as a starting point
Explosive LifeTranscendent Module for Life Sphere detonation
Focus on Dimension and Dimension AmplificationTest Dimension-focused skill output
Power Increase and Non-Attribute AmplificationPrioritise current Skill Power damage
MP Conversion and Nimble FingersCompare cooldown timing in your rotation
Strong MentalityCheck whether skill-cost support is useful
Skill Expansion and Amplification ControlArea-oriented options from the older setup
Materialized Phase ReactorReactor type used in that published loadout

This isn’t a claim that every named module remains optimal after 1.4.6. For the Gley Explosive Life Build, the strongest priority is making your skill-critical damage and health management work together. Keep enough survivability to finish fights; don’t spend catalysts on an old socket layout without comparing how it performs now.

Explosive Life damage values after 1.4.6

Patch 1.4.5 removed 30% Firearm ATK and 80% Firearm Explosive ATK from Frenzied and replaced them with 30% Skill Power and 25% Skill Critical Hit Rate. Those changes redirected the Gley Explosive Life Build away from traditional gun buffs.

StatisticBefore the reworkCurrent official value
Frenzied HP activation cost5% Max HP3% Max HP
Frenzied HP sustain cost2% Max HP1% Max HP
Default Explosive Life modifier2,534.5%Skill Power × 4,578.3%
Frenzied Explosive Life modifier4,607.2%Skill Power × 8,292.9%
Maximum Life Spheres10 under 1.4.520 after patch 1.4.6

The October 22 patch doubled the sphere limit to twenty, but it didn’t announce another change to those damage coefficients. If your Gley Explosive Life Build guide still uses the old ten-sphere ceiling or firearm bonuses, it’s describing the earlier version of the module.

How to use Life Spheres and Explosive Life

Explosive Life detonates nearby Life Spheres instead of simply using them for HP recovery, and it restores Power of Life based on spheres detonated. Build up spheres while fighting ordinary enemies, keep track of where they’ve appeared and use Explosive Life when they can contribute meaningful damage. You don’t necessarily need to reach the cap of twenty before using them.

For the Gley Explosive Life Build, the revised capacity means you can store more spheres during longer encounters. It also means older demonstrations based on stopping at ten may miss possible damage or resource opportunities. However, the patch doesn’t establish one universally correct number to detonate at: positioning, targets and survival still determine whether waiting makes sense.

Increased Sensory’s Maximize Lethality now lasts 15 seconds and gives 15% Skill Critical Hit Damage plus 20% Skill Power in the Explosive Life configuration. Try to line up your useful skill damage with that window while avoiding unnecessary HP losses. It’s a much more relevant interaction than the firearm critical bonuses removed by the rework.

How Massacre fits into your build

Massacre now deals unique-weapon damage based on Skill Power × 553.5%, rather than copying your equipped firearm. Its base fire rate is fixed at 1,200 r/min and the duration is 15 seconds. The old 300% Firearm ATK, 80% Firearm Critical Hit Rate and 20% Fire Rate buffs were removed.

This makes single-target skill damage viable for a Gley Explosive Life Build, especially where you can remain on target through the Massacre window. Test it against the actual enemies you farm, not solely on the character statistics screen. Time spent dodging, low health and poor positioning can outweigh impressive individual hit numbers.

Explosive Life or Demonic Modification?

Explosive Life rewards skill critical hits, sphere management and Skill Power-based Massacre. Demonic Modification has a different loop built around True Aim and unique-weapon explosions. Patch 1.4.6 increased its fixed fire rate to 157 r/min and changed its explosion scaling, so comparing the two using launch-day October damage tests is unreliable.

Our Gley rework overview covers both modules and Blood and Iron. Whether a Gley Explosive Life Build performs better in your hands depends on the fight, the number of sphere opportunities and the gear you’re using. There is no confirmed developer ranking that makes one universal best choice.

Where to test the Gley Explosive Life Build

Onslaught Stage 5 offers extended combat, but you still need to defend its Energy Concentration Point. Every Tyrant that gets inside costs the team 10% Energy. Use the Stage 5 unlock and rewards guide to prepare, and see our Monster Hunter rifle guide for separate weapon effects against large enemies.

Cradle of Evolution also rewards varied equipment: Vulgus Shells require weapons rather than normal skill attacks, and its laser puzzle can’t be solved with damage alone. Our Cradle walkthrough and Cradle rewards guide cover those encounters. For squad alternatives, the current Freyna and Enzo rework articles explain their changed skills.

Before investing more resources into a Gley Explosive Life Build, verify that your module uses the twenty-sphere cap and that your supporting stats favour Skill Power and skill critical hits. The October rework replaced the older firearm bonuses, so the build’s damage now depends on the current skill interactions and the equipment you actually use.
