Tainted Grail Fists of Fury DLC: How to Start the New Questline

Tainted Grail Fists of Fury DLC

Tainted Grail Fists of Fury DLC is now live as a free add-on for The Fall of Avalon, and the new questline starts in the Horns of the South. Questline released it alongside patch 1.30 on October 1, 2026, so players returning to an older save can jump straight into the new content once the game and DLC are fully updated.

The DLC is built around a mysterious martial-arts master who can teach the player a new way to fight. It is not just a cosmetic add-on. Fists of Fury adds a dedicated questline, fistfighting weapons, new gear and a reworked Unarmed skill tree, which makes it useful even if you already finished a large part of the main game.

How Tainted Grail Fists of Fury DLC starts

Head to the Horns of the South after installing the DLC and look for the new quest content tied to the mysterious traveler described by Questline. The official description says this character becomes your teacher if you can impress him, and the questline then sends you against some of Avalon’s tougher threats while relying on fist-based combat.

If the quest does not appear, check the basics before assuming the save is broken. Make sure Fists of Fury is installed as DLC, confirm the base game is on patch 1.30 or later, and fully restart the game after the download finishes. Steam also lists the DLC separately from the base game, so it is worth checking that the add-on itself has been added to the account.

What Tainted Grail Fists of Fury DLC changes

Fists of Fury makes Unarmed combat a proper supported build rather than something players have to force through older systems. Questline added a new weapon category called Fistfighting Weapons, plus armour, items and a dedicated skill tree that all work around punching-focused builds.

One important patch detail affects existing characters. Questline reset and refunded every skill point previously spent in the Unarmed category because the tree was overhauled. That means returning players should expect to reassign those points rather than finding their old setup exactly as they left it.

Does Tainted Grail Fists of Fury DLC need a new save?

The developer has not presented Fists of Fury as a new-game-only mode. The quest is added to the existing world, and the automatic Unarmed point refund is specifically aimed at current characters, which strongly supports using an established save. You should not need to abandon a long-running playthrough just to see the new content.

That said, the quest still has to be picked up in the correct area, so a late-game character may need to travel back to the Horns of the South. If the marker is missing after the update, verify the DLC entitlement first before hunting for community workarounds.

Is Tainted Grail Fists of Fury DLC free?

Yes. Steam lists Tainted Grail Fists of Fury DLC as free, although it requires Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon to play. There is no separate paid edition required for the questline or the fistfighting system.

Because the DLC arrived together with patch 1.30, players also receive the wider update changes at the same time. Those include performance and stability improvements across platforms, additional graphics options and the new Steam Deck presets covered in our separate settings guide.

What to do first

If you are coming back specifically for the DLC, the cleanest order is to update the base game, install Fists of Fury, load your main save and check the refunded Unarmed points before rebuilding the skill tree. After that, travel to the Horns of the South and begin the new questline.

The big thing to avoid is treating the old Unarmed setup as current advice. Patch 1.30 changed that part of the game enough that older build guides may no longer match the live skill tree. Rebuilding from the refunded points gives you a much better starting point for the new fist weapons and gear.

What returning characters should expect

Tainted Grail Fists of Fury DLC works particularly well for an established character because patch 1.30 refunds points from the old Unarmed tree. That gives returning players a clean rebuild without forcing a new save or leaving an older setup half-compatible with the revised system.

The sensible approach is to open the character screen before spending anything. Check the refunded points, look through the new Unarmed options, then decide whether you want to commit to the fistfighting route before starting the quest. Tainted Grail Fists of Fury DLC adds enough supporting equipment that it is worth thinking of it as a complete combat path rather than one novelty weapon.

Players who have not touched the game for a while should also expect other patch 1.30 changes to be present at the same time. Performance work, FSR support and the new Steam Deck presets all arrived alongside Tainted Grail Fists of Fury DLC, so the game may look or behave slightly differently even before the new quest begins.

Fists of Fury checklist

Before heading into the Horns of the South, confirm three things: the base game is updated, the free add-on is installed, and your save has loaded after the patch completed. Tainted Grail Fists of Fury DLC should then be available through the new quest content rather than through a separate standalone launcher.

If the quest still does not appear, restart the game completely and check the DLC entitlement on the storefront. Tainted Grail Fists of Fury DLC is free, but it still has to be attached to the account and installed. That is a much more useful first check than deleting a save or reinstalling the entire game.

Fists of Fury fixes in update 1.31

Update 1.31 fixes unarmed weapon hitboxes after loading a save and makes fistfighting weapons visible on the character in transmog previews. It also changes the idle sound of Unbroken Motion. These are fixes to the existing Fists of Fury content, not a new DLC questline. Read the full Update 1.31 patch notes for the Halloween armour and other changes.
