EA’s October update includes more than 25 Dine Out fixes. One addresses waiters who sometimes did not arrive for work, and customers who would not interact properly with restaurant workers. The developers linked some of these failures to employee Sims holding another pack-specific special role. The new fix targets that overlap in the game’s employee system.
Another set of corrections makes diners spend less time socialising before taking their seats and prevents some guests from abandoning meals before paying. That also means the staff may not be the problem at all. A host can be ready at the desk while guests stay chatting instead of taking their seats.
How to fix Sims 4 restaurant staff not appearing for shifts
- Update The Sims 4 to the October 27 build and restart the game.
- Open the restaurant in a backed-up copy of your save.
- If you own the restaurant, check the business management panel to see whether staff have been hired.
- Open the venue for business and watch which worker arrives, and which role remains empty.
- Check that required host, chef and waiter stations exist and have clear access.
- If the problem remains, test in a separate save without outdated restaurant or autonomy mods.
Don’t fire your entire Sims 4 restaurant staff team before trying the patch. If a hired worker still doesn’t arrive, note which position is missing and test another restaurant. If the same role fails at multiple venues, it is less likely to be caused by the layout of one lot.
What if Sims 4 restaurant staff arrive but won’t do anything?
A host needs to reach the host station and greet guests. Waiters need paths between the dining area and kitchen, while chefs need a usable chef station. Watch the employee closely. If they keep turning around or cancelling an interaction, remove clutter and check whether furniture blocks the route.
Try a small, simple restaurant in a separate save, with the required stations and clear paths between the kitchen and tables. If employees work there, compare its layout with the troublesome venue. If Sims 4 restaurant staff also fail on a simple lot, the problem may involve the save, an outdated mod or a separate base-game bug.
Can mods cause Sims 4 restaurant staff problems?
Yes. Restaurant management mods, custom interaction menus and autonomy changes can affect workers. The October update also changes food and dining systems, so check creators’ latest compatibility notes. A mod that worked with the September build is not necessarily safe for October. You’ll need to test before blaming a particular mod.

Does October fix all Sims 4 restaurant staff bugs?
No. EA addressed known role conflicts and several interruptions in restaurant service, but hasn’t promised that every restaurant bug is gone. Missing hired workers, a waiter who can’t reach a table and guests who won’t sit down should be tested separately because the symptoms have different triggers.
