Phantom Blade Zero Weapon Upgrades: Materials, Reforge and Soul Temper

Phantom Blade Zero PC requirements

Phantom Blade Zero weapon upgrades increase damage and Break Power as you level weapons up to 30. Talk to Forge in Weeping Creek Valley to unlock upgrades, then use Bells to access them. The materials depend on the weapon type: single-handed blades, two-handed blades and dual weapons use different metals.

You’ll meet Forge in Weeping Creek Valley to unlock regular upgrades. After that, you can access weapon improvements from Bells around the world. The systems are different, so don’t spend a rare weapon-specific Tempering Material thinking you can simply undo it through the regular reforge menu.

  1. Progress through Weeping Creek Valley until you meet Forge at the Outpost.
  2. Unlock the regular weapon upgrade system through Forge.
  3. Visit a Bell after this point to access the relevant upgrade controls.
  4. Select a weapon and inspect its current level, next stat increase and required materials.
  5. Pay the material and Remnant Dust cost to raise its level.

Regular Phantom Blade Zero weapon upgrades continue up to level 30. Different weapons may need different quantities or tiers of materials as you progress. Upgrading improves damage and Break Power, and higher weapon levels can unlock extra effects. Check the individual weapon’s upgrade screen before farming a particular material.

You can find upgrade materials in chests, from enemies and in shops. Check the exact metal and Solvent tier shown in your weapon’s upgrade menu. For example, a dual weapon asks for Twinned Metal, whereas one-handed and two-handed weapons use different metal lines. Phantom Edges have their own upgrade categories too.

For Phantom Blade Zero weapon upgrades, separate levelling from Soul Tempering. Ordinary levels use metal, Solvent and Remnant Dust; the reforge option returns those invested materials. Soul Tempering uses a unique item tied to that weapon and unlocks a permanent special effect.

How to reforge a weapon and recover materials

S-GAME confirmed before launch that you can reforge a weapon and reinvest its resources elsewhere. In the released system, the Reforging Talisman is used to revert a weapon. The menu explains that its level resets to the starting value and previously spent upgrade materials are returned. That makes it easier to test newly earned boss weapons instead of sticking with an early choice just to avoid wasting materials.

For Phantom Blade Zero weapon upgrades, check the reforge confirmation carefully. Reverting a weapon removes its regular level progression, so make sure you want to reclaim those resources. Don’t assume it is a global character respec or that it reverses every separate form of modification.

How Soul Tempering differs from normal upgrades

After meeting Myst in Pangzhen, you gain access to Soul Tempering. This is tied to a specific material for each weapon and can give it a special permanent improvement. A weapon can only undergo that particular tempering process once. Look for unique Tempering Materials in the world and side tale rewards.

Because Soul Tempering isn’t the same as a regular upgrade, don’t assume the Reforging Talisman returns those unique materials. Use regular upgrades freely while testing weapons, but choose the weapon and its tempering reward carefully. Our boss weapons guide lists named rewards worth experimenting with.

Which weapons should you upgrade first?

The best Phantom Blade Zero weapon upgrades are for tools you can use comfortably in real encounters. Choose a primary weapon whose combos suit your timing, upgrade enough to make fights manageable and practise with your Phantom Edges before committing rare tempering resources. Our combat and parry guide covers weapon switching and Sha-Chi management.

If you want specific exploration tools, our Phantom Edge locations guide covers the boss and quest rewards that break barriers, grapple to ledges or summon allies. Reforging allows more flexibility when a newly discovered weapon better suits your build.

For Phantom Blade Zero weapon upgrades, find Forge, upgrade at a Bell, and use the Reforging Talisman if you want to move those materials to a different weapon. After meeting Myst in Pangzhen, look for the named Soul Tempering item that adds a unique effect to your preferred weapon.
