Phantom Blade Zero boss strategies depend on recognising how each opponent tries to control a fight. Hua, Deadly Betrothed uses spider lilies to punish your position, Jing Ye, The Outlaw changes tactics after being knocked off his horse, and the Gold-Masked One mixes martial arts attacks with dangerous unblockable throws.
Each fight needs a different response. Against Hua, manage the flowers on the ground. Against Jing Ye, adapt when he moves from horseback to shield-and-sword combat. Against the Gold-Masked One, dodge his unblockable throws instead of trying to hold guard through them. The sections below explain those attacks and the counterplay.
Phantom Blade Zero boss strategies: Hua, Deadly Betrothed

Hua, Deadly Betrothed is an optional boss who summons deadly spider lilies across the arena. The flowers drain your strength and stagger Soul, making it harder to survive her heavy sword swings. Watch the ground as well as Hua herself. If lilies appear under your feet, move out of the affected area before committing to another combo.
For Phantom Blade Zero boss strategies against Hua, keep a clear escape route from the spider-lily patches. After she commits to a large sword swing, dodge or parry as appropriate, then land a short combo before repositioning. Beating her unlocks the Scarlet Wraithblade, which lets Soul use spider lilies himself.
Hua’s huge sword can feel intimidating, but you still have the normal defensive systems: block for safety at the cost of Sha-Chi, parry when you recognise the timing and dodge when positioning is the real problem. The reward and its ability are covered in our boss weapons guide.
How to fight Jing Ye, The Outlaw

Jing Ye begins on horseback and uses dirty tactics, including throwing dirt in Soul’s face to obscure visibility while attempting to run him down. Avoid standing in his approach lane and concentrate on surviving the mounted pressure until the fight changes. Chasing him while your view is impaired makes it harder to react to a charge.
Once Jing Ye is off his horse, he fights with a spiked shield and a large sword. The shield punishes reckless attacks, and his sword can siphon blood to restore his health. For Phantom Blade Zero boss strategies, that means you should avoid repeatedly striking the shield and take the draining sword attack seriously rather than trying to trade hits through it.
In Jing Ye’s second phase, avoid attacking directly into the spiked shield. Watch for his blood-draining sword attack, move out of its path, then counter after the swing. Short combos leave time to react to the next shield or sword move, and switching main weapons can restore Sha-Chi between exchanges.
Gold-Masked One: how to avoid unblockable throws
The Gold-Masked One is encountered in the strange Discordance realm. He uses sword slashes alongside kicks, punches and powerful throws. Some throws are unblockable. That makes him a bad opponent to fight by holding guard and expecting every attack to bounce away.
For Phantom Blade Zero boss strategies against the Gold-Masked One, dodge his unblockable throws. Blue-flash Brutal Moves can be parried with L1 on PS5, but red-flash Killer Moves require R1 to dodge. Wait until he commits to an attack, then counter instead of holding block through the entire sequence.
This opponent is played by Donnie Yen and uses a range of martial-arts moves, so expect the rhythm of the fight to change. Don’t assume every attack in one sequence has the same defensive answer. Our combat and parry walkthrough explains the controls and Sha-Chi system.
General Phantom Blade Zero boss strategies for parrying
Blocking drains your Sha-Chi. Perfect parries and successful pressure reduce an enemy’s, and you can restore your own Sha-Chi by switching between the two equipped main weapons using D-Pad Left on PS5. Once you’ve built Sha-Chi Essence, Power Surge can interrupt an enemy attack. Treat these as tools for creating openings rather than a reason to attack through every warning animation.
Choose Wayfarer if you mainly want to learn the story and combat, or a harder setting like Hellwalker if you want more adaptive enemies. Our difficulty settings guide and Hellwalker breakdown cover those choices.
These Phantom Blade Zero boss strategies come down to three habits: stay clear of Hua’s spider lilies, adjust when Jing Ye loses his horse, and dodge the Gold-Masked One’s unblockable throws. Use the normal parry and dodge cues to find a safe opening before committing to longer attacks.
