Ocarina of Time Switch 2 VRR is listed as a supported output feature on Nintendo’s US product page for the remake launching 5 November 2026. It lets a compatible TV vary its refresh rate to match frames produced by the game.

The listing doesn’t promise 120fps gameplay or a selectable 120Hz performance mode. It also doesn’t mean every television can display VRR. Your Switch 2, dock, HDMI connection and screen must support it.

Is Ocarina of Time Switch 2 VRR officially supported?

Yes for compatible TV output, according to Nintendo US. VRR appears alongside HDR in the game’s specifications. Nintendo UK explicitly lists HDR but doesn’t currently show the same VRR line on its regional page. That listing difference is worth noting rather than presenting the UK specifications as identical.

Nintendo Switch 2 system update 23.0.0 added VRR in TV mode in September 2026. Nintendo confirms that both the software and connected television must support the feature, and that the Switch 2 dock needs a separate update.

What does VRR change in Ocarina of Time?

VRR means variable refresh rate. When the time between completed frames changes, a compatible display can adjust when it refreshes rather than keeping a completely fixed rhythm. That can help reduce visible judder or screen tearing.

The Ocarina of Time Switch 2 VRR specification is about display timing, not an FPS claim. The remake’s improved graphics, camera and performance are confirmed, but Nintendo has not given an exact frame-rate figure or detailed graphics modes in the game listing.

TV requirements for Ocarina of Time Switch 2 VRR

Check that your television supports VRR through the particular HDMI port connected to the Switch 2 dock. Some TVs reserve gaming features for selected inputs, and a 120Hz label alone doesn’t tell you whether VRR is enabled on that input.

Update the console and dock. Nintendo’s documented route for the dock is System Settings → System → Dock Update. Use the supplied HDMI cable or another suitable cable and check for enhanced or gaming input options on the TV.

How to turn on VRR on Nintendo Switch 2

Open System Settings → Display and look for VRR Settings, where Nintendo documents the VRR Output toggle. Check Video Output Information to see the display signal being reported by the console.

If the option isn’t available, start by updating the dock, checking the TV’s VRR setting and trying the correct HDMI input. Our Switch 2 VRR Not Showing guide gives the detailed checks; the dock update guide covers that separate firmware step.

Ocarina of Time Switch 2 VRR vs HDR and 120fps

No. HDR affects brightness and colour presentation. VRR adjusts when frames are shown. A game can offer HDR without a special high-frame-rate mode, and a TV can support HDR without providing VRR on the connected HDMI input.

Our Ocarina of Time Switch 2 HDR guide covers that feature, while our graphics guide explains the rebuilt visuals. Nintendo has not confirmed 120fps gameplay simply by listing VRR support.

Will it work in handheld mode?

Nintendo Switch 2 has a VRR-capable built-in screen, and compatible software can use the feature in handheld and tabletop play. Nintendo’s Ocarina of Time product page specifically lists VRR for compatible television output, however, so the page does not separately establish how the remake behaves in every portable mode.

For Ocarina of Time Switch 2 VRR, the answer is a confirmed US listing for compatible TV output, with a TV, updated dock and supported software required. Choose the right display settings, but don’t expect an announced 120fps mode from a specification that doesn’t say so.
