Sports Resort Tennis: Yes. Tennis is confirmed as one of the 12 launch sports, and Nintendo says players can use multiple shot types with Joy-Con 2 motion controls.
Sports Resort Tennis has its own Island Crown ladder alongside regular and Laid-Back Matches. The larger, slower ball in Laid-Back Match is useful for getting comfortable with motion-controlled shots.
Sports Resort Tennis and available modes

Tennis is another returning activity from Nintendo Switch Sports, where it was one of the core launch sports. Resort keeps it while moving the overall game to Wuhu Island and expanding the roster with seven sports that were not in the completed 2022 lineup.
Nintendo has not yet published a full Tennis control guide for Resort, but its official description confirms multiple shot types and motion-controlled racket play. Specific serving mechanics, court variants and whether every old doubles setup returns are not yet documented. Island Crown provides separate rankings in nine competitive sports.

Laid-Back Match explained
Tennis is included in Island Crown because Nintendo says the offline ranking system applies in each sport. Players can climb ranks and eventually face Island Champions and island Legends rather than relying only on casual matches.
Every Tennis match also contributes to the shared Spocco Point economy. Nintendo says any sport in any mode can earn Spocco Points, which are spent on Mii and Sportsmate customizations. That system is separate from whatever sport-specific ranks Island Crown uses.
Sports Resort Tennis player limits
Local single-system play is confirmed for one to four players at the game level, and online play is confirmed with Nintendo Switch Online. Friend Lobby supports eight people across consoles, while online Tennis matches have their own player limits; two people may join a Friend Lobby from the same Switch 2. Online Friend Lobby supports eight players, with up to two joining from one console.
Tennis includes a Laid-Back Match option with a larger, slower ball. Regular matches use Joy-Con 2 motion controls, and Nintendo lists up to four players locally or online.
Tennis in Island Crown
Tennis should feel familiar to players of Nintendo Switch Sports because the basic racket concept remains, but Resort is adding progression around it. Island Crown gives this competitive sport an offline rank ladder, while Spocco Points make any mode contribute to customization rewards.
Nine competitive sports have separate Island Crown ladders, while the three leisure activities involve exploring Wuhu Island. All twelve are in the base game, and playing earns Spocco Points for cosmetics.
Nintendo Switch Sports Resort launched exclusively for Switch 2 on 22 October 2026. All twelve activities are included in the game.
Getting started with Sports Resort Tennis
Pick a sport you enjoy and try its regular matches before moving into harder Island Crown opponents. The rankings are tracked separately for each of the nine competitive sports.
Sports Resort Tennis: which Tennis modes and player limits are available?
Nintendo confirms a Laid-Back Match using a larger, slower-moving ball alongside regular Tennis. The official player limits are one to four both offline and online. Hands-on reviewers also report three Tennis courts; change courts or use Laid-Back Match if the standard ball speed is too demanding.
For players tackling the Sports Resort Tennis ladder, the Island Champions guide names the Champion pair, while the player-count guide explains how many people can take part in matches.
Start with a regular Tennis match to get used to the timing, then try Laid-Back Match if the ball is moving too quickly. Sports Resort Tennis also supports up to four players both locally and online.
