The Monster Hunter Wilds Ascendance returning monsters list is growing quickly, with Capcom now confirming Khezu alongside Lao-Shan Lung, Kushala Daora and Teostra. These legacy monsters sit beside completely new creatures such as Araketa and Gundoraja in the 2027 Master Rank expansion.

Keeping the returning roster separate from rumours matters because Ascendance trailers contain plenty of background details that can be easy to overread. The current Monster Hunter Wilds Ascendance returning monsters list below only includes creatures Capcom has actually revealed or confirmed.

Capcom may reveal more legacy monsters before launch, so the Monster Hunter Wilds Ascendance returning monsters roster is not necessarily complete. These four are the important confirmed names right now.

Khezu

Khezu is the newest confirmed return. Capcom announced the pale Flying Wyvern during a Tokyo Game Show stage event on September 19 after players had already noticed the monster in earlier Ascendance footage.

Its Wilds model keeps the eyeless head, long elastic neck and electrical identity, while footage also shows Khezu whelps existing in the environment as small creatures. Our Khezu in Monster Hunter Wilds Ascendance guide covers everything shown so far.

Teostra

Teostra was formally revealed during Capcom Spotlight at TGS 2026 and is already one of the best documented Monster Hunter Wilds Ascendance returning monsters because journalists have played its demo hunt.

The Ascendance fight takes place in the Oilwell Basin and keeps familiar fire, blast and charge attacks while adding new attack patterns. One new move has Teostra rear up, slam both forelegs down and pivot while upright to track the Hunter. Our Teostra in Monster Hunter Wilds Ascendance guide has the current gameplay details.

Kushala Daora

Kushala Daora is another returning Elder Dragon confirmed for Ascendance. The steel-covered dragon is known throughout the series for controlling wind and creating powerful air pressure around itself.

Capcom has not yet published a complete Ascendance-specific hunt breakdown for Kushala, so old weakness and wind-aura values should not be treated as final Wilds data. Our Kushala Daora in Monster Hunter Wilds Ascendance guide sticks to the confirmed return and current expansion information.

Lao-Shan Lung

Lao-Shan Lung has a much larger story role than a simple roster cameo. Ascendance begins when the colossal Elder Dragon appears in the Forbidden Lands and devastates the Expedition’s position, setting the expansion’s story in motion.

The story then advances several years as the Expedition prepares for Lao-Shan Lung’s return and builds Madoi Stronghold. That makes Lao-Shan Lung one of the most important Monster Hunter Wilds Ascendance returning monsters even before Capcom explains the final hunt structure. Read our Lao-Shan Lung in Monster Hunter Wilds Ascendance guide for the story details.

Which Ascendance monsters are completely new?

Not every Ascendance monster is a return. Araketa is a newly discovered Bird Wyvern capable of high-speed flight and coordinated pack behaviour, while Gundoraja is a new Elder Dragon associated with the storms over the Skybound Eyrie.

Those monsters belong to the expansion’s new roster rather than the Monster Hunter Wilds Ascendance returning monsters list. Keeping those groups separate makes it much easier to track what Capcom is bringing back and what is being introduced for the first time.

Will more returning monsters be announced?

Capcom is revealing Ascendance in stages, with Teostra and Khezu both receiving additional announcements during Tokyo Game Show after the earlier expansion trailers. More roster information may arrive before launch, but only confirmed monsters belong on this list.

Our main Monster Hunter Wilds Ascendance guide covers the story, Master Rank, Skybound Eyrie and new systems, while the Ascendance release date page tracks the current 2027 launch window.
