Manor Lords crop rotation 0.8.117 changes when you can sow each of the five field crops. Wheat and rye are winter crops, although you can also plant them in spring for a faster but smaller harvest. Flax, barley and oats are spring crops only. Crop rotation is now always enabled, and the field interface shows a 12-month schedule.

These rules arrived on the default Steam branch on 31 October 2026. If your workers seem to be ignoring a field, it’s worth checking the season and selected crop before assuming the Farmhouse is broken. The new schedule determines when plowing, sowing and harvesting take place.

There are two planting groups. Wheat and rye are normally sown as winter crops, but spring sowing is permitted with a quicker return at the cost of yield. Flax, barley and oats must be sown in spring. They don’t have the winter-sowing alternative.

That makes the crop choice itself important. You cannot put oats on the same winter schedule as wheat and expect the workers to plant both. For Manor Lords crop rotation 0.8.117, match the selected crop to the planting window shown on your field instead of simply assigning identical schedules everywhere.

Can you plant wheat or rye in spring?

Yes. The developer explicitly allows spring sowing for wheat and rye, even though they are classified as winter crops. The advantage is a quicker return, but it comes with a lower yield. Spring planting therefore gives you flexibility rather than a free way to get the same harvest earlier.

Flax, barley and oats do not share that option. These crops can only be sown in spring. If you keep seeing a chosen crop waiting rather than being planted during winter, check whether it belongs to the spring-only group.

Is crop rotation still optional?

No. The Manor Lords crop rotation 0.8.117 system keeps rotation switched on for every field. Slavic Magic removed the option to disable it because leaving rotation off had no useful benefit under the reworked farming system.

A field can therefore move between crop choices and fallow periods according to the rotation schedule. This also means older tips telling you to turn crop rotation off no longer match the current default-branch version.

How does the 12-month field activity timeline work?

The field interface now shows the next twelve months of work. Check it to see when plowing, sowing and harvesting are scheduled for your selected crop. The timeline is especially useful when a spring crop is selected during winter, because waiting for the right season is expected behaviour.

For Manor Lords crop rotation 0.8.117, that timeline is the first thing to inspect when a field isn’t being worked. The update enforces distinct windows for seasonal crops, so a field may be scheduled to wait until the correct planting period.

When does the field rotate?

The developer describes three rotation triggers. On 1 September, a field with nothing harvestable, including fallow land, can rotate. A field also rotates after its harvest is completed. Finally, if crops have died without ever being harvested, rotation occurs on 1 November.

This is more flexible than automatically forcing every unharvested field to rotate at the start of October. In Manor Lords crop rotation 0.8.117, crops still standing in October begin losing yield gradually, leaving some time to salvage the harvest.

How do fallow fields recover fertility?

Fallow fields naturally regain fertility, but most of that recovery now takes place toward the end of the annual cycle. A field with a crop selected but nothing planted also regenerates fertility as though it were fallow. Plowing fallow land is allowed in spring, summer and autumn, but it is the lowest-priority field task.

Version 0.8.117 also lowers ordinary fallow regeneration. The new Dunghill provides a way to improve maximum fertility: Farmhouse workers apply Fertilizer to fallow fields during summer, and the effect lasts slightly over two years. Our Dunghill fertilizer guide explains the workers and resources behind that treatment.

Why isn’t my field planting or harvesting?

Start by checking the selected crop and season. Flax, barley and oats wait for spring. Wheat and rye have their normal winter schedule but can be spring-sown at lower yield. Then check the 12-month field timeline to see which task is expected next.

If a field is unharvested in October, its crop can lose yield rather than instantly rotating. Manor Lords crop rotation 0.8.117 also changed how fallow land and empty planted fields recover fertility, so a field that is waiting is not necessarily wasting the whole season.

The Rural Foundations perks add farming bonuses, and our 0.8.117 patch guide covers the rest of the update. The main lesson from Manor Lords crop rotation 0.8.117 is to plan around the new planting calendar, not assume every crop follows the same yearly cycle.
