Dune Awakening Update 1.5 is the September overhaul that changes how the survival game can be played rather than simply adding another bundle of quests. The update is live on PC and for console Head Start players from September 17, with the full PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S console launch following on September 22.
The biggest reason to revisit Dune Awakening Update 1.5 is the new full single-player mode, but the patch also changes server selection, character portability, base and vehicle recovery, difficulty customization, PvE access, combat, endgame progression and the conclusion of Book One. This guide pulls the practical changes into one place and links out to the parts that need their own instructions.

| Change | What it means |
|---|---|
| Full single-player | The complete game, story, Deep Desert, challenges and rewards can now be played without other players. |
| Custom difficulty | Three presets plus detailed manual settings for survival, combat, resources, building and world rules. |
| Character-centric servers | Multiplayer characters can change valid servers from the character flow, with one-way restrictions between server types. |
| Base and vehicle protection | Base Reconstruction snapshots and Vehicle Backup recovery reduce the risk of losing long-term progress. |
| Book One complete | The Great Convention Part III finishes Book One, allowing the current story to be played from beginning to end. |
| Optional PvP | The full experience can now be played in PvE, while PvP remains available for players who want the higher-risk rewards. |
For many returning players, Dune Awakening Update 1.5 is effectively a relaunch. Funcom says the whole game can now be completed in single-player, while multiplayer has been reorganised so the character is the centre of the experience rather than one permanent server. The Dune Awakening single player guide explains how the solo mode differs from ordinary multiplayer.
Single-player and full gameplay customization
Dune Awakening Update 1.5 adds a dedicated single-player choice when starting the game. A single-player character is separate from multiplayer and cannot be moved into or out of the solo mode. The solo version still includes the full story, Deep Desert, Landsraad and progression systems, but systems that previously depended on other players have been adjusted.
The Exchange acts as a vendor, the Landsraad simulates competing guilds, the Deep Desert does not perform the same wipe cycle, and the Coriolis Storm remains dangerous without instantly wiping solo progress. Players can choose from three difficulty presets or manually change settings such as harvesting and XP multipliers, durability, base decay, sandstorms, sandworm spawning, security zones and what drops on death.
Characters can move between more servers
The character-centred redesign in Dune Awakening Update 1.5 also changes the old assumption that one multiplayer character is permanently tied to one world. Official-server characters can be used on official servers and can be moved to a private or self-hosted server, but that move away from official servers is one-way. Private-server characters can move to self-hosted servers but cannot move back.
Single-player characters remain single-player only. Backed-up bases and vehicles can travel with eligible multiplayer transfers, so the Dune Awakening character transfer guide is worth reading before moving a long-running character.
Base snapshots and vehicle recovery are much less punishing
Dune Awakening Update 1.5 arrives after Funcom spent much of the previous year reducing progression loss. The Base Reconstruction Tool can store up to three complete base snapshots that can later be rebuilt, including on another eligible world. Destroyed vehicles can be recovered through the Vehicle Backup Tool for up to 30 days for a Solari charge and durability penalty.
Base taxes have been removed, overdue taxes were forgiven, the death durability penalty was reduced and base recycling outside the Deep Desert returns materials and stored items. Bases still need power to resist weather damage, so the update removes upkeep taxation rather than making structures maintenance-free.
Book One, PvE and endgame changes
Dune Awakening Update 1.5 adds the final Book One story content through The Great Convention Part III. Existing story missions also gained new rewards, while several story encounters became instanced to remove multiplayer queues. The rebuilt Landsraad uses repeatable missions across combat, crafting, gathering, exploration and sabotage, making the faction endgame usable by solo and PvE-focused players.
PvP is now optional across the broader game. Hagga Basin is PvE on official worlds, while the Deep Desert provides separate PvE and PvP instances. The PvP instance pays 2.5x mining and harvesting yield to compensate for the additional risk.
Console launch, login reward and Filmic Archive DLC
Although Dune Awakening Update 1.5 went live on September 17, the standard console launch is September 22, 2026. Deluxe and Ultimate console pre-orders received a five-day Head Start from September 17. PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X offer Performance mode at 60fps Dynamic 4K and Quality mode at 30fps Dynamic 4K, with higher native resolution on PS5 Pro and Xbox Series X in the enhanced modes.
Anyone who plays between September 17 and October 22 can claim the six-piece Matron’s Decor login reward. September 22 also brings the optional Filmic Archive DLC for $9.99, with film-inspired armour, stillsuits, Sardaukar weapons, 73 building pieces and 17 decorations. The Dune Awakening Filmic Archive DLC guide lists the confirmed contents and current pricing status.
Update 1.5 hotfixes are already arriving
Funcom has already followed Dune Awakening Update 1.5 with client hotfixes. Version 1.5.3.1 on September 19 fixed several single-player, progression and stability problems, while a planned BattlEye-free launch option for single-player and certain private servers was temporarily disabled after it caused multiplayer errors. Hotfix 1.5.3.2 followed on September 21 with more fixes.
Our Dune Awakening 1.5 problems tracker follows those fixes and current known issues. For the full developer changelog, use Funcom’s official Update 1.5 patch notes.
