Binding of Isaac Repentance+ Item Information explains what items do after you’ve picked them up before. It’s a new option in the Nintendo Switch 2 edition of The Binding of Isaac: Repentance+, due out on 19 November 2026.
It isn’t a way to identify every unfamiliar treasure before touching it. The wording on the official listings is specific to previously collected items, which is a useful distinction in a game built around discovering strange effects over hundreds of different runs.
Binding of Isaac Repentance+ Item Information: how it works

Nintendo calls the feature Item Information, while publisher Nicalis uses the name Item Descriptions. Both describe the same basic idea: the game can explain the functionality of an item you’ve collected on an earlier occasion. You won’t have to rely entirely on memory when you recognise an old pickup.
The Binding of Isaac Repentance+ Item Information option is particularly handy for players returning after a long break. An item that seemed unremarkable during one run might be exactly what you need in another, provided you remember what it changes.
Will it explain items you have never picked up?
The confirmed feature only covers previously collected items. If a treasure is completely new to you, there is no promise that the game will reveal its full effects before you take it. That first encounter is still part of the discovery that makes Isaac’s randomised runs interesting.
Equally, the description doesn’t specify whether an already recognised item displays its information while sitting on a pedestal, after pickup, or through another screen. Binding of Isaac Repentance+ Item Information should not be described as a permanent on-screen item guide until the actual interface can be checked.
Why is Item Information useful?
Repentance+ has more than 700 different items, alongside 34 playable characters, over 330 enemy types and more than 120 bosses and minibosses. Remembering the effect of every pickup is a tall order, even for someone who has played for years.
An explanation of something you’ve seen before can help you recognise whether it suits your current run. Different characters and random item combinations can change the value of the same pickup. Knowing its function helps you make a decision; it doesn’t automatically tell you which build is best.
The Binding of Isaac Repentance+ Item Information feature is an aid to recognition, not a promise of item rankings, combination suggestions or hidden information about everything ahead. Those extra features haven’t been advertised as part of the option.
Where do you enable Item Information?
Nicalis calls it an option, but the publisher hasn’t shown the exact Switch 2 settings menu or control used to display descriptions. The full button sequence isn’t available from the product information. When the game launches, look for Item Information or Item Descriptions in its settings and follow the labels shown in that version.
There’s no stated shop cost or challenge requirement for enabling the option. The condition mentioned by the publisher concerns the items themselves: they must have been picked up before. That isn’t the same as saying you have to buy or earn the feature.
Will old saves count as previously collected items?
That detail hasn’t been confirmed. Someone who has collected hundreds of items in an older edition shouldn’t assume the new Switch 2 version automatically recognises all that history. Whether saves, item records or other progress carry over needs to be established separately.
The Binding of Isaac Repentance+ Item Information option also doesn’t promise information about another player’s items during co-op. Nicalis confirms up to four-player online play, but hasn’t linked the new descriptions to a special multiplayer mechanic.
When does the option become available?
Binding of Isaac Repentance+ Item Information comes with the Switch 2 game on 19 November 2026. It sits alongside the edition’s other additions, including online leaderboards and multiplayer across daily runs, Greed Mode and challenges.
For online matchmaking, see our Quick Match guide. The Switch 2 release overview covers the full edition. For this option, the answer is straightforward: it explains familiar items, but it isn’t confirmed as a guide to pickups you’ve never encountered.
